Game tested on PlayStation 3

From the moment of the announcement and the appearance of the first gameplay videos, Rogue evoked an acute feeling of déjà vu. As if all this, with rare exceptions, we had seen before, in previous parts of Assassin's Creed. As it turned out, the new game really uses all the best components of the third part and Black Flag, without offering any noticeable innovations.

Ubisoft partly succeeded in smoothing out the feeling of secondaryness with one simple detail - the French just turned the usual narrative upside down. If before we controlled assassins and helped the Brotherhood fight the Templars, here a hired killer abandons his comrades and begins to hunt them. However, even observing what is happening from the other side does not allow us to get rid of the thought that this is more of a major independent addition than a full-fledged game.

⇡ Black-black flag

The project tells the story of Shay Patrick Cormack, born in New York to Irish immigrants. Since childhood, he was friends with Liam O'Brien, who subsequently invited him to the Brotherhood, where Shay met the rest of the assassins, including other recruits. Among the main members of the Brotherhood was Achilles, familiar to the players from the third part, and the consequences of one of the orders given to them forced Cormac to leave his comrades, and later to start hunting for them.

Familiar characters meet along the way from the very beginning - Haytham appears after Adewale and Achilles

As often happens in Assassin's Creed, you will be able to see the plot described in the game description only after a few hours. At first, the main character is no different from an ordinary assassin, and therefore the first quarter of the passage does not cause much interest - unless, of course, Rogue is your thing entry ticket into the world of the series, while veterans will see familiar gameplay.

But after the character’s transformation into an antagonist of the Brotherhood, the first unique features of the game begin to appear. For example, assassins are by no means humble sheep. They try with all their might to ruin Neck’s life, hiding literally around every corner and jumping out at the most unexpected moments. It gets ridiculous - while collecting collectibles in some deep forest, Shay may stumble upon a stalker hidden in the bushes, who will stab him with a dagger and immediately run away in an unknown direction.

Tracking such enemies is not difficult, as loud whispers can be heard when approaching them. If you turn on eagle vision, the radar at the bottom of the screen will indicate the direction from which to expect an attack. A similar mechanic is used in side missions, where it is necessary to protect a certain target from an attack by hired assassins - the player is given one or two minutes to search for assassins in the locations indicated on the map. They are very cunning - they hide not only in the crowd, but also on the roofs, which is why the “cleansing” occurs at a crazy pace.

The combat system has undergone some changes, but if you don't have time to study them, you can simply throw the enemy off a cliff

By and large, the matter is limited to the innovations described above. Almost everything else is a template taken from Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, to which a pinch of Assassin's Creed III was added, wrapping it all in a story about a Templar killing his former comrades. Moreover, the copying is often very noticeable - New York looks as if the developers simply pulled it out of the third part and transferred it to Rogue. Because of this, collecting collectibles and exploring the area from high towers feels banal and boring.

However, copying individual elements does not always appear in a bad light in Rogue. Naval battles, as before, bring great pleasure - Cormac's personal ship, the Morrigan, is very easy to control, and its gradual improvement makes battles with other ships very intense and spectacular. At first, only heavy cannonballs are available, but then the sides are barbed with mortars. It also becomes possible to spill flammable oil behind the ship in order to discourage the enemy from pursuing. The principle by which forts are captured has remained unchanged, but is still not boring - circling along the coast, blasting towers with cannonballs, is still exciting.

⇡ Repetition of what has been covered

And as soon as you find yourself at the helm of a ship, you want to return to land less and less. After all, there awaits us the same running through the streets, climbing trees and houses, hundreds, or even thousands of collectibles, which are immediately shown on the mini-map and do not require the slightest effort to find them. New types of weapons could add variety, but there are not as many unusual things among them as we would like. We have already seen the rope dart and smoke bombs, but darts and grenades with “bestial” make the passage so easy that you don’t even want to use them. As soon as you use them on an enemy, he will fly into a rage and turn his weapon against his comrades - it looks funny, but the gameplay is clearly not ennobling.

Tackling between icebergs on a large ship, listening to the crunch of ice under the stern, is simply magical

Among other things, animal hunting has returned to Rogue, which has been noticeably simplified compared to the third part. There is no need to set traps and lure out living creatures while sitting in the bushes - catching up with a hare or fox is as easy as jumping on them from a tree. And it’s not at all necessary to hunt here, since all the skins necessary for leveling up can be bought at a bargain price from traders - this even applies to killer whale skin, which is very difficult to obtain honestly.

As similar as Rogue is to its predecessors, the storyline and naval battles are still enough to make it worth paying attention to. But, as with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, the project is not perceived as a new game in the series. Yes, it fills the gap between the third and fourth parts, offers an interesting story and provides answers to many questions that fans have. However, in all other respects, it is almost a word-for-word copy of the aforementioned iterations of Assassin's Creed, lacking the originality and unique features that could justify its current price. Ubisoft offers to purchase Rogue at the cost of other major new products, without giving a single reason to agree to such a condition.

Therefore, Rogue can be recommended only to those who follow the storyline of the series with great interest and do not miss a single grain of new information. For such people, the story of an assassin who became a Templar will be very exciting. Although they will also be disappointed by the length - compared to Black Flag, there are exactly half as many story missions. We won’t recommend the game to others - if you don’t like the series, Rogue won’t fix that.

Advantages:

  • an interesting plot that allows you to look at history from a different perspective;
  • battles at sea are still impressive.

Flaws:

  • continuous self-copying and lack of new ideas;
  • too short storyline;
  • Rogue feels more like a standalone expansion than a full game.
Graphic arts Externally, Rogue is no different from the versions of Black Flag for the previous generation of consoles. And there’s nothing wrong with that - both look quite decent, but don’t show anything incredible. 7
Sound There are no memorable compositions, and the soundtrack itself is rather meager - for example, in tense scenes or during chases, the same composition is almost always included. But Irish tunes are nice to listen to. 7
Single player game The short storyline may be a surprise for players - only six missions, while in the third and fourth parts their number exceeded a dozen. The lack of innovation and widespread copy-paste are also not beneficial. 6
Group game Not provided. -
General impression Assassin's Creed Rogue can't be called a bad game, as it takes advantage of everything that was good about its predecessors. But this is the main problem - asking full price for the same thing, albeit with a different storyline, is not entirely fair. 7

From its very announcement Assassin's Creed: Rogue seemed like some kind of second-rate spin-off. While literally every news related to the upcoming blockbuster was being published and discussed, Rogue kept in the dark. The development was entrusted to “laborers” from Ubisoft Sofia. The plot is clearly written “only for our own people.” The release is scheduled only on older consoles. Even the release of the PC version was delayed so that the “big sister” had time to gain fame. However, in the end Rogue not only bypassed, but also became one of the most unusual parts Assassin's Creed.

Revenge of the Sith

And again colonial America! Yes, yes, everyone is already pretty tired of it, and it seems that the authors Rogue they understand this, and therefore want to close all the unresolved issues of previous games. For example, how the assassins, who, with the forces of Edward Kenway, spread their influence throughout the continent, lost it by the beginning. What happened?

Not “what”, but “who” - Shay Patrick Cormack. This is the main character Rogue, a kind of Anakin Skywalker in the world Assassin's Creed. Shay begins his journey as an ordinary assassin - he carries out the instructions of his mentor, plunges blades into enemy carcasses and regularly falls into the hay. However, when the Order's latest mission results in a huge number of innocent victims, Shay begins to question the Assassins' methods. So he steps on a crooked path, which eventually leads him to the Templars. The newly minted anti-hero begins a hunt - now for his former colleagues.

Shay's character, however, lacks the small details that make the same Ezio or newcomer Arno so attractive. It is noticeable that this is a hero for one game, and it seems that the authors deliberately made him as if according to a template. Failure to follow orders? Eat. Doubt about previous ideals? Present. Heated arguments with brothers in arms? Please. On the other hand, Shay's story still seems fresh - Assassin's Creed Never before has she shown us such radical transformations of the main characters. In addition Rogue answers questions left after, and which fans of the series will surely like.

Patching holes from the past is one of the reasons why Rogue, like , pays almost no attention to modernity. The next adventure of a nameless programmer in the Abstergo laboratories is only an excuse to study the affairs of bygone days. Rogue is already the fourth game in which there is no full-fledged analogue of Desmond Miles. Ubisoft, probably decided to abandon this plot device altogether.

Keep your eyes open

In terms of gameplay Rogue tries not to stray from the path trodden by last year, and this is more good than bad - after all, it was a wonderful game. We are once again enjoying ourselves both on land and sea; tired of acrobatics and murders, Shay soon acquires the ship "Morrigan", gathers a gang of scoundrels and sets off to surf the waves. Robberies, boardings, sea hunting - all this migrated to Rogue from the previous game and brings the necessary variety to the hero’s everyday life.

There are also some innovations. You can now spill oil on water, set it on fire and lure your opponent into a trap. Opponents in Rogue They can also go on board, so we have to play on the defensive. And after successfully defending your trough, you can encroach on the ship of the loser pirates.

Hiking has become more interesting. For example, in a new type of secondary mission, Shay needs to protect a person from an attack by assassins. This is not just an open battle - enemies (a funny feeling when you call assassins enemies!) attack unexpectedly, and you have to quickly “examine” crowds of passersby with “eagle vision” in search of danger, and sometimes reluctantly leave an important person alone in order to take the best observation position. Such tasks show that Bulgarian developers also know how to keep the player in suspense.

Another source of fun stress is assassination attempts. Shay, who has gone over to the side of the Templars, is clearly not needed by the assassins alive, so they send assassins after him every now and then. You are calmly walking along the street, and suddenly some crazy person with a blade jumps at you from the roof; you walk through the garden, and another madman runs out of the bushes. You have to always be ready, look around and use your “eagle vision” again.

Not again, but again

The problem is that all these additions are just small decorations on the façade of the same building that hosted all the previous events. Rogue looks like a collection of the best ideas of the series: sea adventures from, hunting from, which nevertheless took a small step forward, remains the same here. Shay calmly beats up dozens of enemies, while we yawn and wait for the next sketchy brawl to end. New weapons like a grenade launcher and a silent rifle do not change the situation - with them our Templar turns into an indestructible Terminator, which only contributes to boredom. Automatic parkour with automatic jumps into the void and random falls to death has not gone away.

***

Saying goodbye to the seventh generation of consoles, Assassin's Creed as if she had decided for the last time to remember the old times, both good and bad. Only loyal fans are invited to the exhibition of the series' achievements, but for them Rogue will be a real parting gift. If you are one of them, pick up the game without hesitation. The brevity of the main storyline and the lack of multiplayer are difficult to count among the advantages of the project, but after seeing these mesmerizing seascapes, you will forgive many of its shortcomings.

Assassin's Creed Rogue became the eighth game in the famous Assassin's Creed series from Ubisoft. The creators decided to move the scene to the waters of the North Atlantic, during the so-called “Seven Years' War”. The main character was the young warrior Shay Cormac, a member of the Order of Assassins, completely unknown to fans of the previous parts of the series. In parallel, the storyline is led by the Analyst of Abstergo Entertainment, who is trying to unravel the tangled tangle of Cormac's memories.
Initially, Ubisoft had no plans to make a powerful original action movie out of Assassin's Creed Rogue. This is evidenced by the eloquent fact that the game was first released only on PS3 and Xbox 360. Almost on the same day, the much-hyped Assassin's Creed was released on the new generation consoles: Unity. The latter really looked more impressive and generally prettier, and this part was interesting because of the presence of a number of important gameplay updates. In a word, Assassin's Creed Rogue then remained somewhere in the background. And so, on March 10 of this year, the PC version of Assassin's Creed: Rogue was released, which demonstrates a rather interesting storyline and the absence of technical flaws. These qualities positively distinguish the game from Unity, which many did not like due to its technical weakness. Overall, Assassin's Creed Rogue is definitely worth discussing and testing.

Similarities between Rogue and previous games in the series

The concept of Rogue is not much different from the previous parts of the series - for example, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. We again see how assassins, like pirates, attack sea ships, board them and storm forts. Our hero is slowly creating his own small fleet .However, the protagonist's sea adventures can end at almost any moment - the ship will moor to the shore, and he will go about much more familiar things. In the game, the player is given greater freedom of movement around the cities - from hunting wild animals to jumping on the high roofs of local houses. The hero creates equipment for himself from the skins of killed animals, collects important bonuses and at the same time deals with enemies.

Our hero does not spend time on land alone. From time to time you can visit local shops and taverns, where you have a chance to recruit a team for the crew and purchase all kinds of upgrades or weapons. If you wish, you can act more ambitiously: capture settlements and gradually improve the standard of living in them. This inevitably leads to an increase in the personal income of the protagonist. Oh yes, in parallel with this, we are all invited to go through quite interesting story missions. Much attention is paid to the hunt for some important persons.
Unfortunately, Assassin's Creed Rogue could not get rid of the outdated and rather boring "tricks" of previous games in the series. The player will sometimes have to deal with boring additional sub-missions, cope with the sometimes uncontrollable controls of the main character, who, as if of his own free will, is always going somewhere. then jumps, climbs, etc. Some complaints are also raised by the game’s combat system, with which you can defeat most of the enemies you encounter on your way with virtually nothing to do. It’s good that at least in Unity the developers have made attempts to eliminate these shortcomings. It’s a pity that the innovations in It is accompanied by a large number of technical bugs; they seriously spoil the impression of the game.

Plot innovations

Despite the fact that Assassin's Creed Rogue is far from perfect, it has those features that are sorely lacking in Unity. In it we have the opportunity to see a truly unusual hero and an exciting plot. I just want to combine the last two games in the Assassin series "s Creed - it would be an amazing game!
In terms of plot, Rogue surpasses any previous games with which it can theoretically be compared. The plot twists here are much sharper and more vivid. You definitely won't be bored while playing! From the very beginning, the main character enters the game as a member of the Brotherhood of Assassins, tries to find a valuable artifact, fights the templars and improves his characteristics. As the plot develops, Shay Cormac gradually moves away from the rest of the assassins and, as a result, completely goes over to the side of the Templars.
The beauty of Rogue's story is that it opens up gaps left by previous games in the series. What remains a mystery or unsaid to you will be explained in one way or another in Rogue. For this reason, fans of the Assassin's Creed series should definitely play this game.

A significant part of the gameplay is the confrontation between Cormac and his former entourage - the assassins. Sometimes the main character has to become a victim himself. Literally at any moment when you go through another mission, an enemy can appear out of nowhere and significantly damage the character’s health. The difficulty of defending against assassins is that they use similar methods of camouflage and attack. To detect them, the player will have to work hard: more than once he will have to use cunning to lure assassins out of ambushes, use “eagle vision,” etc.

What's new in gameplay?

Rogue is definitely not a secondary product; the game is full of innovations, the absence of which the previous parts of the Assassin's Creed series suffered from. For example, from now on the player will be able to additionally travel to the shores of North America and to the cold Atlantic waters. These territories are now open for exploration and marine entertainment. But there is no need to be too zealous in exploring the cold waters of the Atlantic. Spending too long in this part of the globe has a negative impact on the character’s health.

We wrote above that you can capture other sea vessels with your crew, board them, etc. So, your opponents can behave in a similar way, so you should never relax. As for your crew's capabilities, Cormac's ship will be able to stealthily launch its harpoons at enemy ships, use Pakla's gun to attack their vulnerable units, and successfully retreat from the battlefield with the help of mountain oil.
Once on land, Cormac can use the new air gun to do his business. As ammunition, you can use sleeping darts and capsules with a certain substance that drives the victim of a shot into a real rage. An enemy that attacks everything around you will play into your hands in those moments when you need to do something to distract other enemies or simply get somewhere unnoticed. Of course, these are not revolutionary gameplay changes in Assassin's Creed games, but, take my word for it, they perfectly refresh the gameplay, making the new product rich.

So what do we have? Assassin's Creed Rogue really looks a bit like the Black Flag game from the same series, and the available platforms in the form of the old generation of consoles do not inspire joy. However, this does not negate the unconditional importance of this game. If you are a fan of the series or you just played the previous parts , and you really liked them, then you have no right to ignore Rogue.

The PC version of the game looks much more beautiful than Rogue, which was released last year for PS3 and Xbox 360. There will be no bugs, glitches or crashes. Everything is done to the highest possible quality so that you can just play and not be distracted by little things.

Assassin's Creed: Rogue is an upcoming adventure video game set in the Assassin's Creed universe, currently being developed by Ubisoft Bulgrain and Ubisoft Sofia.

The game is currently planned to be released primarily on the seventh generation of consoles – Xbox 360, PlayStation3. There is no official information yet about the release of the game on PC.

Gamers who keep their finger on the pulse know that two projects are being developed in the Assassin's Creed universe, but the details have been very vague and the details have not been disclosed, leaving room for guesswork and speculation.

And if it soon became known about Unity, they were in no hurry to declassify the second project. The working code name for this project was "Comet". Thanks to the efforts of speculators, most people agreed that New York would be the central location, or at least it could be visited during the trip.

However, it turns out that the official title of the game is Assassin's Creed: Rogue, which will mark the end of the North American Saga.

Despite 2013's popular Assassin's Creed: Black Flag and its close ties to Assassin's Creed III and Assassin's Creed: Unity, as well as characters between those games (such as Haytham Kenway), Rogue has yet to be confirmed for PC. Assassin's Creed Rogue is a full game, however, it will aim to fill the "gaps" between AC III and AC IV and will supposedly contain a "key link" between the games.

As with the development of many Ubisoft series, the Ubisoft Sofia development team is not developing this game themselves, they receive funds and assistance from Ubisoft studios in Singapore, Quebec, Montreal, etc. It is generally accepted that this approach allows teams to produce games very quickly with studios focused on specific aspects of the game.

Assassin's Creed Rogue will allow us to take control of a young Irishman named Shay Patrick Cormac. Shay is twenty-one years old and has recently joined the ranks of the Assassins. However, he gradually becomes disillusioned with their methods. His disappointment turns to hatred when he is betrayed by his brothers after a mission goes wrong.

After the saddest betrayal, Shay goes to the Templar Order, offering them his skills as an assassin to become an Assassin Hunter.

Taking this opportunity, Shay is given almost unlimited Templar resources to carry out his revenge. What Shai does during his journey will have consequences that will leave an indelible mark on the Brotherhood of Assassins for many years to come.

Haytham Kenway will appear in the game, but whether he will have a serious impact on the plot is still unknown. It is also unclear how Shay will be connected to the events of the upcoming Unity.

Assassin's Creed Rogue will take us back to the Seven Years' War. The story takes the player across the Atlantic and North American regions, thus concluding the "American Saga" of Assassin's Creed.

The new game takes the AC formula to New York and the North Atlantic Ocean. The shifting icy winds offer some interesting opportunities for players. Icebergs can be used as cover from enemy fire when you are in command of a ship. Some of them can be destroyed to reveal items or collectible animus fragments inside.

Unlike the warm waters where Edward Kenway stayed, the waters of the North Atlantic Ocean are much colder and swimming in them is strongly discouraged because... everything can end badly.

Thanks to the terrain, the player can quickly switch between walking and sailing on their journey, which offers some interesting possibilities in terms of mission structure, especially for an assassin like Shay.

Considering that Shay is allied with the Templars, he becomes a significant target for the Assassins and their allies. You and your team will often find yourself under fire from allied Assassin forces.

It was very interesting to me. Thank you.
The clone videos are not particularly impressive, and you can’t keep up with all the news, but here everything is short, clear and precise.
