alien Rage became one of the first projects of CITY Interactive, with which the studio tried to reach a serious global level. The name has changed - now the company is called CI Games. The old series are forgotten, like and, not a single word is mentioned about them on the updated official website. A shooter is on sale alien Rage, which, according to the developers, is made according to the precepts of hardcore classic FPS.

Classic

To be fair, it must be said that alien Rage really different from past CITY Interactive budget shooters. They tightened up the graphics - the game looks almost no worse than the AAA-level projects of that time. The gameplay, indeed, added hardcore. The plot is strictly according to the classics, a tough Earthman-special forces opposes legions of aggressive aliens (the closest relatives - and). They were not too lazy to make different types of enemies, ordered an excellent soundtrack, screwed up a more or less decent plot, revealing step by step the background of the conflict between the two races. In general, the creators of a whole bunch of childhood diseases alien Rage overcame - already not bad, we did not expect this from them. However, many other problems remain unresolved.

And problems alien Rage are hidden in the details. The developers were smart enough not to tear everything from the old games - the picture, as we already mentioned, is at the modern level, the eye is pleasing to the constant explosions and the bodies of enemies flying in all directions - the dismemberment is implemented very competently. However, CI Games did not bother to make the locations interesting.

All the fuss began after people discovered the element promethium on a small asteroid, a source of an incredible amount of energy. Then representatives of the militarized Voras civilization appeared on the same asteroid. At first, the two races somehow got along together, extracting promethium separately. But then something happened, and the Voras massacred all the people who were on the asteroid, both soldiers and scientists. This is where our main character comes into play, who is thrown onto an asteroid with the task of finding out - what the hell happened, why the shaky world collapsed ...

Do not expect any large-scale battles, in best traditions classic FPS, we will play for a real Superman, single-handedly destroying a horde of enemy warriors. The gameplay is simple as a stick, and, accordingly, boring - rush along the corridors and shoot. At the same time, dozens of voras climb ahead, and our thug, for nothing, that he seemed to have come out of the world, in fact, the guy is quite frail - three or four alien fighters are already creating a serious problem for him. That is, hardcore, as promised, is sustained, but what if the gameplay gets bored very quickly?

The second problem is location. What's the use of modern graphics if you spend the whole game wandering through caves filled with high-tech equipment? Again, the first 2-3 of the 14 levels look interesting. You look with curiosity at tunnels and elevators carved right into the rock, bridges, incomprehensible mechanisms. You feel like you're in a classic sci-fi movie, a la "Aliens" or "Something". However, it takes eight levels - and the feeling that you are still wandering through the very first level, because the scenery does not change at all. This is where you realize that habit is second nature, and some developers probably can’t do it any other way - they just know how to move along the path of least resistance.

Fury of the Voras

Honor and praise CI Games at least for the fact that they worked hard on the opponents - they really turned out to be very different. Ordinary soldiers snarl with automatic bursts, and saboteurs, who can become invisible, briskly rush hand-to-hand. Over time, snipers and heavily armed grenade launchers enter the battle, and bosses enter the arena every few levels - huge armored creatures with a monstrous supply of vital energy. Unfortunately, fighting them is a standard endurance test, sit behind cover and shoot the boss, that's all. However, the test of endurance is a large part of the story campaign. alien Rage.

Fleeting entertainment, shaking the usual gameplay, can be counted on the fingers of one hand. First of all, this is a futuristic weapon. There are many guns, both terrestrial and alien, and each “barrel” has an alternative firing mode. Slightly dilutes the standard shooter rail attraction. Armed with a machine gun, our hero rides a cart through a mine where promethium was mined. There are also many enemies here, so you have to shoot at everything that moves.

In general, in the case of alien Rage we got a standard B-class shooter made by artisan developers. Dull gameplay, not a single new idea for fourteen missions - all this alien Rage. And yet, it is already much better than that horror that CITY Interactive used to release. I am glad that the developers are slowly evolving.

Alien Rage Unlimited is the latest science fiction game in which you have to fight in the first person as part of an elite squad whose mission is to fight aliens. This game was developed on the updated Unreal Engine 3 and is multiplatform.
The game takes place on a certain asteroid "Deimos 875", on which space reconnaissance from the Earth discovers the most valuable energy resource "Prometheus". Therefore, immediately after the discovery of this resource, people begin to actively develop it. However, another contender soon appeared for a tidbit of this coveted fossil, namely, Vorus. This alien intelligent race was also interested in exploration and production of "Prometheus". At first, two dissimilar races coexisted peacefully and did not interfere in each other's affairs, but soon the Vorus attacked the asteroid extraction points for earthlings' raw materials.

As a result, a detachment of immediate response fighters was sent from Earth to clean up the asteroid from the alien aggressor. Therefore, the player will have to get used to the role of such a super-fighter and destroy all enemies on his way with the help of heavy weapons and demonstrating an excellent skill.

The game consists of 14 levels, as well as fights with eight large alien bosses. The player is armed with 10 different types of weapons that have the ability to conduct two different types of fire. The passage is quite linear with classic gameplay.

What about multiplayer Alien Rage-Unlimited, then it’s worth saying that it turned out to be rather modest, since the developers did not introduce a cooperative mode, so they simply created two separate online modes: “Deathmatch” and “Team Deathmatch”, in which network battles such as “2 on 2”, “4 by 4 "and" 8 by 8", in which it is not necessary to demonstrate special tactics, is enough to have high level skill. This game is similar to Unreal Tournament.

Aloha to all site visitors. Today I will tell you about a great shooter of the old school. In general, one sentence is enough to describe the whole game. Alien Rage is a thousand-thousand, bang-bang, bang. But since this is a review, you need to put everything on the shelves and rummage through the cabinets of this game for skeletons. So let's go.

Plot

Let's start with the weakest part of the game - the story. The plot here is made in the style: if only there was. That is, completely banal hackneyed. For example, the plot of the story: people in search of promethium (this is a local resource) ransacked the floor of the galaxy and finally dug it up on an asteroid lost in ... ahem, sorry ... in a remote part of our Milky Way. Naturally, this promethium was needed not only by us. The aliens are coming. At first everything is fine, but then because of one incident, everything went awry. I will not talk about the incident, you will find out for yourself if you play this game.

By the way, you will have to learn from the audio recordings of one scientist. We find these records everywhere we can. In almost every level, there are three audio recordings that can be found in the most unexpected places.

In short, all the people on the asteroid were quickly sent to another plane of existence, and all the extraction of resources was crushed by the Voras. Naturally, people did not like it, and our protagonist Jack was sent there along with the team. artificial intelligence female, aka SUZI from mass effect, but only call her Iris and the pilot named Rey. You can listen to their funny skirmishes for a long time. Well, straight Joker and EDI during ME2, by golly. And upon arrival at the place, the MEAT begins. In the best traditions of old school shooters.

The plot, of course, is banal, but its presence pleases. From the story in the game, you should not expect any plot twists. Although no. There is one twist… no, more of a twist. On the asteroid there is a small fleet of the most powerful alien ships, which are clearly not friendly. Naturally, we need to blow up this fleet. And along the way, destroy the crowds of aliens. Alone, by the way. Old school, in general.

In total, the game has fourteen levels, each of which is very different from the other. The scenery changes frequently. Often, we ourselves change them with the help of promethium, which has tremendous explosive power. Especially during the last level. After killing the last boss.

Graphics and sound

The game was made on the old Unreal Engine 3. But this old man is very active and is not going to retire. This is quite enough to understand that the picture in Alien Rage is good. The weapon textures look great, the explosions and environments that are destroyed by the same explosions look great. We cannot judge the facial expressions of the characters, because the character we see is only one. Our protagonist. And we see him only during the cut scenes. And they, basically, precede the end of the level or the appearance of the boss.

There is no Russian voice acting in the game. Only subtitles, only hardcore! But basically everything is fine. Explosions, gunshots and a killer “FUCK YOU!!!” Jack's are beautifully done.

Well, now we will move on to the best part of the game. Gameplay. For dessert, so to speak.

“But where are you climbing from, alien muzzles!?” (With)

What the developers have really succeeded in is the gameplay. Unlike most modern shooters the game is really hard. Enemies, even on the easiest difficulty level, are fast, smart and very dangerous. And their huge number complicates the matter. But unlike the new XCOM, where the crowds of enemies rather bothered, here they make the game more interesting. Moreover, constant battles do not bother. Maybe because the pace of the firefight is just crazy?

Moreover, there are many types of voras. Let's divide them into two groups. The first group is those who meet very often. Ordinary soldiers who are dangerous only when there are a lot of them, grenade launchers (dangerous bastards, explode when you kill them), stealths with shotguns that can stun with an electric charge, stealths for close combat, snipers (shoot in a split second). The second group are those who meet from the middle of the game and towards the end. These are guardsmen (Freaks, how did you get me! Bastards with blasters!), hefty armored robots, exploding spiders and, for a snack, huge mech robots that they will let us ride. And, I almost forgot, thugs who walk with miniguns and cheerfully pouring fire on you and vores with jetpacks. Bring them down first thing, otherwise they fly into your back and shoot our protagonist in the back of the head. Word of mouth, they screwed me over.

By the way, sometimes there are non-aggressive voras. You can either shoot them or walk past them.

In general, the enemies will not let you get bored, and the bosses are a completely different story. There are eight in total. And about half of them are different variations of the same boss. That is, a huge robot armed with iminigan rocket launchers. The other half is original. A huge and almost unkillable spider. Hefty Protozhnets, sorry, not Protozhnets, but a very similar subject to him, which should be brought down on fur. Freak, with three layers of protection, with a bunch of rocket launchers on his shoulders and plasma horseradish on his hands. Well, and a robot that is being repaired with the help of a repair crane, and its support group in the face of flying mechs does not let you get bored.

We need to bring down all these subjects from an impressive arsenal. There are two types of machine guns and shotguns. Terrestrial and alien version. But the alien version is preferable, because it does not require reloading when the cartridges run out. However, it overheats and cannot shoot for several seconds. There is an earthly submachine gun, which is almost not needed. Sniper rifle(my favorite weapon), the most powerful hand cannon in the game. Blaster of the Guards, which slows down enemies and allows you to get close and blow the head of the voras. From afar, this will not work, since the damage at long distances from this weapon is small. There is also a minigun, a grenade launcher and, of course, a pistol. The gun, by the way, after receiving the upgrade: "Mega Pistol", turns into a killing machine. Brings down everyone with a couple of shots. Each weapon has an alternate firing mode. Well, there, from a grenade launcher, shoot or kick everyone around with an electric discharge.

And now for the improvements. You get points for killing enemies. And if you show special ingenuity in combat, for example, headshot everyone in a row, bring down in melee or blow up everyone in a row, then you get bonuses. When you score enough points, upgrades are unlocked. Only three of the twelve upgrades can be used at the same time. Few? Maybe. Yes, and almost all of them are not needed, except for the Mega Pistol and a couple of others. By the way, as well as audio recordings, sometimes there are green triangles. These are bonuses that give extra points.

By the way, most shelters, with the exception of monolithic structures, can be blown to hell.

In general, if it were not for the gameplay, the game would have turned out not very good. The fights just drag out the game. However, throughout the game you are not given freedom of choice. You are simply told where to go or what to do. All in all, AlienRage is a fucking old school corridor shooter. By the way, all levels can be replayed, and all improvements are saved.

Alien Rage is a great shooter. Several evenings you can play. The game also has multiplayer, but I have not played it. I had no time.

Thank you for reading this text. Bye everyone, play good games.

I wish I could play Russian roulette with City Interactive! Because when it comes to firearms- these Polish blasphemers are very predictable. Only every fourth of their projects shoots, and the rest misfire and fall into the category of “classic Polish shooter”. And this is already a diagnosis, from which it breathes hopelessness, like from a small blind kitten abandoned by her mother, and in addition, sick with cancer and slowly drinking herself near the garbage bin after losing all her property on slot machines. The difference is that the kitten is really sorry, but the Polish shooter is not very (by “not very” one should understand “let it burn in hell”). No chances. Hoping for the success of such a project is stupider than believing that an old cow will lay a golden egg. Inlaid with diamonds. However, the Polish publisher patiently knelt behind the cow with outstretched arms. However, instead of the desired jewelry - a cow's cake. Do not throw it away - it is better to sell it using a forbidden technique. Knowing that gamers are people of honor and always give way to girls, grandparents and kittens on the subway, the Poles passed off their soulless project as purebred retro. And after all, many were seduced by these gray sideburns and hipster mannerisms!

someone else's pain

As they say, they are greeted by clothes, and see off in the morning: of course, of course, I will call you back myself. So, Alien Rage looks surprisingly good for a low-budget Polish shooter. The abundance of effects, small rubbish flying in the air, and light reflections at first pleasantly tickle the optic nerve. But when it comes to shooting, the tickling turns into a nasty acupuncture. The whole game is a marathon through the same type of premises, accompanied by an endless shooting of aliens. Although it often seems that the main characters, handing out to everyone in the tail and mane, they are here, and not you.

Total

As a proponent of calling things by their proper names, I'd rather rename the AR difficulty modes to Ass, Full Ass, and Don't Enter: Giant Smother Ass Will Kill. A mindless enemy arises directly from the air, persistently pushes with the stubbornness of a flock of mountain sheep and flatly does not want to miss. Neither a wall nor a reinforced concrete shelter saves the player from an enraged enemy - he immediately switches to an alternative shooting mode and fires at us from a grenade launcher without stopping, which is why the shelter either falls apart or kills our frail hero with an explosive wave. The image of the hero, as a kind of powerful resolver, who came to calm down alien impudent people, instantly collapses, and this does not strongly motivate him to fight further. Especially with thick-skinned bosses: prolonged fights with them can even lead to a nervous breakdown, a heart attack or a nervous tic, because the hamover phenomenon is as common as reloading a weapon. Hardcore? This is perhaps the perfect word to describe what is happening in the game, if in the dictionary of synonyms it is placed opposite "imbalanced shit".

Anger management

The developers justify themselves by saying that the monotonous gameplay, the minimum plot and the absurd complexity are all refined old school, passed through three retro filters ... and through itself. Yes, there are too many end products of human life in this article, but as they say, you can’t throw words out of a song. But the developers should have been thrown out into outer space without a spacesuit for trying to hide behind the feelings of those who are nostalgic for the third Quake and Anrial. However, old-schoolers are not fools either - they are able to distinguish a fake. Especially when first-aid kits are not scattered across the levels, because in Alien Rage Her Majesty regeneration rules the show, in no way coping with the aggressiveness of enemies.

In normal shooters, you usually immediately understand what kind of tactics it is better to use: it’s fun to walk ahead, or you can sit in shelters and take out blockheads one by one. But what the Poles want from the player, I never guessed for the whole game. Attempts at a slow and measured passage usually end with a well-aimed hit on you from a grenade launcher, and going into the open is tantamount to suicide, since the enemy is incredibly accurate. As a result, the passage of Alien Rage is akin to BDSM, although we recommend that fans of BDSM whip themselves with a whip in the old fashioned way - this, at least, is not such a perversion.

Explosive nature

All the external beauty that the old man Unreal Engine 3, connected to an artificial life support device, is trying so hard to squeeze out of himself, is killed by the meager design of clone levels. Monotonous corridors, rooms with computers - if there was a device that measures banality, then its arrow would break the protective glass. For the sake of an abundance of explosions, igrodely stuffed every level with red barrels. As a result, bursts of fire, “booms”, the sight of flying aliens, for some reason, are more pleasing not to you, but to the off-screen multiplayer commentator invited to stay and pat on the single. I won’t say anything about the network mode, because I simply ran out of synonyms for the words “banal” and “feces”, but I don’t want to repeat myself. I'm not Aien Rage.

Self-taught in alien language

Courageously ignoring my rebellious stomach, I reached end credits, but never understood who Alien Rage was created for. After all, the game stimulates the passage of nothing. New portions of the boring plot are mainly served through audiologs scattered around. Stationary. Take two steps back and you'll miss everything, although it's even more stupid to stand like a pillar for five minutes, tasting extraterrestrial delirium that was born by some heroin addict who achieved the position of a screenwriter in ways that get you to hell.

The biggest irony is that Alien Rage is equipped with a very decent shooter mechanics: that is, the very feeling of shooting is conveyed well here. But a disgusting imbalance of complexity, a monotonous process and a primitive level architecture negate any advantages. Not every Al-Qaeda will arrange such a terrorist attack.

Verdict

Hiding behind supposedly old-school gameplay and a technologically advanced picture, the Poles masterfully splurge. At first, Alien Rage really looks like a budget, but beautiful action movie with juicy special effects. But as soon as it comes to the first shootout, the extras begin to arrange chaos on the set, the lead actor refuses to act, demanding an immediate increase in the fee, and the director hangs himself altogether. So an alien farce with elements of farce deserves only xenophobia from you.

Final rating: 5 points out of 10!

Simple as a Kalashnikov assault rifle. On an asteroid flying in the depths of space, some valuable substance was found that is suitable for ... It is not so important, in the end, for what exactly: we just have a fantastic shooter, which means that we cannot do without a valuable substance. Having hastily come up with the sonorous name "promethium" for the newly discovered substance, the overjoyed humanity is building a cyclopean-sized plant for its extraction. But here's the bad luck: evil aliens unexpectedly became interested in promethium - voras, as usual, are technologically more advanced than people, and therefore they gave the earthly troops a good beating. For everyone who is more or less familiar with the canons of the genre, the solution to the problem is obvious: where an entire army failed, a single space marine is needed, who will wipe the arrogant strangers into dust.

Marine against terrorism.

The Polish team is definitely familiar with the canons. Still, after all, behind them (then still as City Interactive) there is a whole abyss of dreary and monotonous shooters, from and to the recent dilogy. None of these projects have been successful, but the developers do not give up and continue to follow the beaten track, boldly piling up some stamps on others. It would seem that this time everything should have turned out as it should: there is a proven graphics engine, futuristic guns, aliens and a lot of bright "badabum". What else is needed for happiness? And you just need a little inspiration and your own ideas, which are still not noticeable here.

Hearing the sonorous "Double Kill" or "Triple Kill", it's hard to get rid of the feeling,
that the next Unreal Tournament is on the monitor.

In 2011, another Polish studio released a 100% thrash, but at the same time incredibly exciting shooter, where there was no open world, no advanced AI - only crowds of screaming enemies, the craziest ways to deal with them and a lot of idiotic humor. And a minigun. So, - this, so to speak, "castrated". At first glance, everything seems to be in place, but that unforgettable atmosphere of total chaos and cheerful lawlessness is not in sight here.

The aliens' arsenal differs from the earthly one only appearance Yes, no need to change the clip. As in the "original", each weapon has an alternate firing mode - for example, the so-called blaster (actually just an alien shotgun) fires fireball, throwing everything in its path into the air, and a submachine gun capable of hitting enemies with an electric discharge. But all this lacks some kind of zest. The aliens' arsenal, which claims to be an exotic weapon, differs from the terrestrial one only in appearance and the absence of the need to change the clip. Let's say a voras ion rifle and a terrestrial assault rifle operate in much the same way, additional mode both fire a regular grenade.

The voice acting of the weapon did not work out: instead of the juicy roar of shots
it makes some pathetic rattling sound.

We met somewhere.

The secondness comes through even in the details. The player is introduced to the course of the case, as usual, audio recordings, carefully laid out in the most unexpected places. Main character flaunts in thick armor, but at the same time, like his brothers who fell at the hands of the enemy, he basically does not wear a helmet. Obviously, the standards established by which the skulls of earthly warriors are endowed with increased bullet resistance are affecting.

Fans of killing not just like that, but “with a twinkle” will be rewarded with an accelerated set of points and peppy pop-up inscriptions like “Double trouble!” or "Supernova!". It all looks very familiar too, only to arrange an insane combo like juggling helpless bodies or throwing them into the mouths of carnivorous plants will not work here. The maximum possible is to blow someone to pieces with the help of explosive barrels of promethium, prudently placed everywhere for this very purpose. Experience points gained by hard work are used to level up the character. Improvements open painfully slowly, but the upgrade system itself is implemented very conveniently and allows you to redistribute bonuses at any time, for example, increase ammunition or increase stamina.

All 14 levels are linear, like 7th grade high school algebra equations. If a Bullet Storm successfully compensated for this with fantastically beautiful landscapes and unusual, inventive gameplay, Alien Rage is unable to offer either. The whole game is designed in gloomy gray-blue colors, the design is more suitable not for an arcade shooter, but for a horror like dead space. There is nothing special to catch the eye: metal stairs and passages, stone tunnels, some indistinct mechanisms merge into a monotonous hodgepodge.

Test of endurance.

Standard situation: a narrow straight corridor and a crowd of enemies running towards you, firing from all guns. The location structure is depressingly primitive. Standard situation: a narrow straight corridor and a crowd of enemies running towards you, firing from all guns. Occasionally there are open halls, hinting at the possibility of maneuvering, but there is still no point in this. Cunning aliens with whom you can play cat and mouse remained somewhere in, and the local voras in terms of intelligence are more like headless kamikaze from. By unknown reason they are all desperate to meet the player face to face and rush forward like moose in mating season, so you don’t have to worry about the location of the enemy: just stay where you are and calmly count to ten, after which the entire horde will come to visit you. True, some particularly advanced specimens suddenly remember the existence of shelters and rush back and forth from one barrier to another, creating the appearance of tactics.

For all that, the complexity is completely mocking, as you can already guess from the main menu - the easy level is called “difficult” here, and the normal level is called “hard”, respectively. What is happening on the next, "cruel", I don’t even want to think. The screen now and then is covered with interference from grenade explosions, voras breed like cockroaches, and the hero perishes suspiciously quickly, despite all his armor (apparently, he didn’t put on a helmet in vain). Most of all, invisible enemies that rush at unimaginable speed and love to appear right in front of your nose to strike with stun claws deliver the most problems. After the extermination of dozens of cloned humanoids, another similar one appears as a boss, only three times larger and with an order of magnitude thicker armor, and ordinary minions materialize out of thin air. Very original to say the least.

On big holidays, a bald warrior gets his hands on ... yes, yes, a minigun. The same one. This is where the real fun begins for a while - with this weapon of destruction, the character turns into a berserker for a few seconds, emitting furious battle cries to the accompaniment of a lead shower.

And happiness was so close, so possible.

However, there are already enough spectacular moments: the explosions boom beautifully, promethium detonates here and there, the aliens generously splash orange blood and fall apart into small lumps from a successful hit. A fiery wave on a half-screen, flying in all directions of the body and somersaulting before the eyes of someone's severed head is in the order of things. If the enemies were not so hopelessly stupid, and the level design was a little more diverse, it would be easy to turn a blind eye to the total lack of ideas of the project, but - alas, it doesn’t work out.

Alien Rage is not able to surprise with anything: everything that is here, you have already seen more than once or twice. Alien Rage can't surprise you with tactical firefights like , or special character abilities like , or adrenaline madness. To be honest, she is not at all able to surprise with anything: everything that is here, you have already seen more than once or twice. new creation C.I. Games clearly claims the title of "old school", which in recent times fashionable, but in fact it causes about the same sensations as when reading a binder of magazines from the year before last. Even the multiplayer does not save the situation, it is as boring and standard as the story campaign. Two network modes, normal and team "deathmatch", at the present time look very very poor.

To call a frankly bad shooter the language does not turn, and this is already progress - in the end, technically everything is implemented here at an acceptable level. Just after a couple of hours of shooting Voras, there is an irresistible desire to forever leave the notorious asteroid to the mercy of fate - let the aliens take all the promethium for themselves and do what they want with it. And once again, saving the world is better somewhere in another game.
