Valve announced the start of a competition for the best user (Custom) game, and also announced the approximate release date for the long-awaited update called The Dueling Fates, which was announced back in August at The International 2017. In this update, we've overhauled the matchmaking system for Ranked and Casual matches, adding six-month seasons. This will make player ratings more accurate and up-to-date, which will improve the quality of games.
For each season, players will receive medals in their profile displaying highest level player skill during that season. There will be seven such medals, and each of them has five progress stars that you need to earn in order to get the next medal. Medals for the current and previous seasons will be visible to all players at the start of each match.
At the start of each season, players will undergo a ranking calibration based on their performance from the previous season. The current numerical rating will be saved: it will be possible to show it in your profile, and you will always be able to follow your progress in the season.
The first season will start in two weeks so that everyone has time to prepare for it.

Pangolier - a pangolin swordsman, most of all reminiscent of the notorious Puss in Boots. He is an excellent swordsman, pierces the enemy's armor, and in case of danger turns into a rolling spiked ball that knocks back and stuns all opponents who stand in his way.
Dark Willow - an insidious fairy that makes you remember the evil pranksters from Celtic mythology. She attacks from the world of shadows, sends curses and creates a maze of thorns on the battlefield, and her pet firefly makes enemies scatter in horror.
We will not see these two in professional matches for a long time, but in a regular game anyone can already try them out.

They affected almost all heroes, as well as the location of buildings and other objects on the map, game mechanics and attributes. New artifacts have appeared in the shops, and some of the old ones have been removed. Games began to pass faster, and the action in them became an order of magnitude greater. Esportsmen have yet to learn all the subtleties of the new update - and we just have to follow the current tournaments and wait when Pangolier and Dark Willow will be able to fully express themselves in the hands of professionals.
