Fallout 4 overseer's best friends. Social experiment in the Vault

For the first time in the history of the Fallout series, you have the opportunity to not just visit another vault, but build your own using the Vault-Tec Workshop add-on for Fallout 4, which will be available on July 26, 2016 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Become a real Asylum Overseer with the authority to experiment on residents.

Welcome to Vault 88

Vault-Tec Workshop is the first hybrid add-on that has both a quest part and a part related to the construction and creation of items. It all starts with a call for help from Vault 88, which you will receive if your level is above 20. After arriving at the place and dealing with the raiders trying to enter the shelter, you will meet the caretaker. She is the only survivor of Vault 88, but she is now a ghoul too. Vault 88 was not completed before the war, and the caretaker has been waiting for 200 years to complete it. The long wait has not shaken her devotion to Vault-Tek in the least, and she dreams of starting experiments on unsuspecting residents.

Select the ideal test subjects, set the parameters of the experiment - at the end of the experiment you will receive a new object that you can build at any time using the workshop.

You don't have to complete the quest part - it won't stop you from crafting base versions of each experimental item. Also, it is not necessary to be level 20 in order to receive the task, but it is desirable, since the place in which Vault 88 is located is intended for players of level 35. But here it's up to you.

Interior design

You have to complete the construction of Vault 88 and fill it with items for comfort. In addition to the large building pieces to create the hideout itself, you'll also have clean furniture, new decorations (including Vault Boy and Vault Girl statues), items you craft through experimentation, and armchairs for the barbershop and surgery room. Now you don't have to trudge to Diamond City to change your appearance. Put a villager next to the chair and change yourself for free and at any time (only for your character).

You will not need a bunch of materials for construction, since they are already in place, and you can also sort out the rubbish lying there. But even if they run out, you can just look for them inside Vault 88. Be careful: it may happen that you break through the wall and find evil monsters behind it. True, if you deal with them, you can build there.

To the light

You don't have to limit yourself to the Vault set, you can use all the items and structures available to you. Also, do not limit yourself to Vault 88 - go to other settlements and make their world a better place too. You will not be able to dig the ground, but you will have a chance to build a heavenly Vault.

I like 2

Now it is impossible to lose at least one settler. Furthermore, VIP settlers can be displayed on the Pip-Boy map. Addition Vault-Tec Workshop for added a new solution to the game, thanks to which your main (nominal) settlers will be displayed on the map. You can also find out about availability for work, and whether there are any in your settlement unoccupied residents.

Thus, you no longer have to worry about what the settlers are doing, where they could disappear and where each of them lives. You can also track satellites on the island Far Harbor.

In other words, Bethesda finally added the function that was in the last patch for Fallout: New Vegas and which has been asked since the time Fallout 3 .

Fallout 4: Vault-Tec - All About Satellites and Population Management

To access satellite information, build . It's on the menu Food -> Miscellaneous.

Only Overseer can use this station, so initially do all story quests from Overseer Barstow in Vault 88. After this, the Control System will be available to you, but you can build it in any of your settlements, and not just in Vault 88.

Vault-tech population control station has three functions:

  • Find a job for the unemployed
  • Occupations overview
  • Surveillance of VIPs (your companions, for example, Nick Valentine, Paladin Dance, Dog, Chiuri, Piper, etc.)

Find a job for the unemployed allows you to automatically assign free residents to work in free places of the given settlement where the station itself is located.

Occupations overview similar to looking for a job, but the difference is that you can automatically transfer residents from one job to another.

Surveillance of VIPs will mark you on the map the location of a satellite selected from a huge list, which will allow you to find out where in this moment lives Valentine, where you left the Dog and so on.

At the same time, activating surveillance starts the quest "The Overseer's Best Friends", thanks to which points will appear on the map. That's why this quest must be made active in the journal and then go to the map. In the future, tracking can be noted.

Thus, now it has become much more convenient and easier to observe the settlers.

July 26, 2016 on PC, Xbox One and PS4 came the fifth addition to Fallout game 4. It's called the Vault-Tec Workshop, and is an opportunity to create a shelter for various experiments. One of these shelters is called "Vault 88" .

"Vault 88" - a new addition to Fallout

One of your main goals in the Fallout 4 Vault 88 add-on is to rebuild an abandoned vault. You have to use many innovations, such as, for example, the tools of the Workshop. In the place that you build, you need to invite tenants. There are also pre-war furniture, beautiful decorative items, as well as new places, such as a barbershop and a surgical salon, which will provide new opportunities for change. appearance. You will also be able to subject your neighbors in the shelter to experiments that are approved by the Workshop. To do this, there are a lot of new devices.

Fallout 4: where is Vault 88?

To find Vault 88, you need to find the Quincy Quarry. The place you need is under it. From the moment it is found, the map replaces the Quarry object with Vault 88.

Entrance to Vault 88

The site itself is a large area underground that is moving north towards University Point. In order to rebuild it, you are provided with a huge amount of uranium, limestone, which you need to look for in the tunnels around the shelter area. The entire construction campaign is in your hands.

In Fallout 4, the question arises: how to build Vault 88? The entire territory will be gradually rebuilt by you and filled with residents during the passage of quests.

Fallout 4: Vault 88 quests

  • During the quests "Energy for People", "Waterhole", "Vision of the Future" you will be assigned tasks, for which you will need to perform one of four experiments. We work everything out on Clem first.
  • After activating the board, the quest add-on "Investigation of Vault 88" will open. In it, you must examine all sectors of Vault 88 for the presence of workshops in them. During the game you will find control boards - only three pieces.
  • AT " Better life underground" you have to find Anderson, who is a wild ghoul. You also need to fight other ghouls and get the Vault-Tec control board.
  • The Call of Vault-Tech is the first quest in the expansion. His main goal is to visit Vault 88. To do this, you have to catch the frequency of Vault 88 with a radio, find him near the Quincy quarry, destroy the raiders who guard him, and go inside.
  • “Citizen Model” is the third quest in which you will again have to fight ghouls, communicate with the surviving Overseer, activate the fee that you got in previous fights. This will help attract new residents to the Vault.
  • After completing the tasks of the previous quest, the Citizen Model will continue. To complete Vault 88 in Fallout 4, you need to talk with the residents to determine the best test subject. It will be a man named Clem - you will conduct all the experiments on him.
  • And the last quest is "Lady Luck". It's short and useful. You have to do slot machine which does not require any special equipment. As a result, upon completion of the construction of the machine, you will receive the "Legend of Vault 88" jumpsuit from Overseer Barstow. It will help you in the fight against ghouls, as it reduces damage from them by 15%.

The exercise bike allows you to extract energy

Experiments play a very important role in the expansion. In total, you can spend 4 experiments:

  • To check the eyesight of residents, you need to use a Phoropter.
  • An exercise bike on which you can extract energy, with the help of it and a buffout, you can increase your efficiency, just turn the simulator, increasing endurance.
  • The soda machine works by adding hallucinogens, antidepressants, or creating a mixture of Nuka Cola and caffeine. Increases energy production.
  • The slot machine increases the luck of the inhabitants and gives them joy.

Enemies in the dungeons of Vault 88

During the passage of the game you will meet many enemies:

  • Some places are guarded by a security robot.
  • Deathclaws, which are very formidable opponents in close combat.
  • Wild ghouls that hide in the dungeons. Often they can be confused with ordinary corpses or not visible in the dark.
  • Mole rats that can attack suddenly, tearing out a hole right in front of your feet.
  • You should also be wary of radscorpions, which also hide in the ground and can attack at any moment.
  • You can also meet Bolotnikov here.

Secrets of Vault 88 in Fallout 4:

  • Your level does not affect the level of your opponents.
  • In order for you to have 100 units of water, you need to find a pump in the caves of the location.
  • There are three passages leading to Vault 88: the main one, through the University Point Pharmacy, and through the Milton Hospital.

Vault 88 becomes the personal shelter of the main character, he can build it up at his own discretion, as well as conduct various experiments in it.

For convenience, use summary :

Description of Vault 88

Vault 88, added by the Vault-Tec Workshop add-on, according to the plot of the add-on, is an unfinished facility of the Vault-Tek company, the construction of which was interrupted by the war. Your task, as the new owner of the shelter, is to clear it of mutants, clear it of various rubbish and fill the huge rooms to your liking. You will be able to build everything from hairdressers and clinics to laboratories and pumping stations. The interior of the rooms can be filled with furniture, all furniture is in the pre-war style.

Before the release of this add-on, many players were intrigued by the information that in Vault 88, after the construction is completed, it will be possible to conduct experiments on its settlers. Everyone rubbed their hands and drove away in their heads what terrible, or maybe not terrible, experiments they would carry out. And now the add-on became available and everyone rushed to Vault 88, build, fill, do everything to make the opportunity to conduct experiments available.

To search for shelter 88, you can use our interactive map, on which all Fallout 4 objects are marked.

What experiments are available in Vault 88?

Having gained access to experiences, the players were left, for the most part, dissatisfied. There are several reasons for this, including the impossibility of conducting mass experiments and the lack of diversity in them.

As it turned out, only 1 inhabitant is available for experiments, and there are only 4 experiments through which it can be driven, and in our opinion they are not very interesting, see for yourself:

  • Exercise bike experiment- an ordinary exercise bike is taken, which is attached to a dynamo machine, the experimental person is put behind this unit and you decide in which mode to turn on the exercise bike. He has 3 of these modes, here is their description:
    1. Rigid - subject pedals until he dies, a little brutal and a little interesting;
    2. Medium - when the subject pedals, to increase his endurance, he is given a drug that makes him addicted;
    3. Soft - in this mode, the subject is engaged on the simulator, to the cheerful music and no one controls him.

  • Soda Machine Experiment- in this experiment, the subject will drink soda from the machine, he will not even be aware of the experiment, and at this time various additives will be added to his drink:
    1. A drink with a hallucinogen - long-term use of such a drink will cause some kind of effect, and which one we will learn from this experiment;
    2. Drink with an antidepressant - the subject becomes completely dependent on the machine and the drink;
    3. A drink made from coffee and nuclei-cola - after such a drink it is quite possible " see time".

  • Eye test experiment- the subject is invited for a medical "vision test", in fact, he is put not behind a medical device, but behind a special laboratory one. With this device, you can do the following:
    1. Viewing hypnotic images;
    2. Seeing thoughts through the eyes;
    3. Treatment of subject's vision;

  • Vegas Machine Experiment- the essence of this experiment is that a slot machine is installed for people, but it is "twisted" in advance and gives a result that is beneficial to the leader of the experiment. Here are the modes in which this device operates:
    1. 100% loss - see how losses affect residents;
    2. 50/50 - how many won and lost;
    3. Everyone always wins - look at how sudden wealth affects the settlers.

Lyrics about my tender feelings for the weirdo-coders Arbors under the spoiler

I also lamented that Fallout 4 never came out, and I went to play this Sims 5, crooked and funny, in some places I even like it. True, unlike weapon crafting (really well implemented), the writers of that masterpiece part of the code that concerns construction first want to say hello to अपने कोड में बड़ी गलती - डीएनए, then shake hands a little closer, then the second, then tear off both and sew them a little closer to shoulders.
I have already run a little and got my hand in building sheds of all styles and directions, including in non-obvious dependencies such as element A docks to element B only when element C at the other end of the house is turned to the northwest, the moon will rise in the sign of Krivorog, and a pink sofa in a neighboring settlement will be installed strictly according to Feng Shui. In the latest DLC Vault-Tec Workshop, the developers have outdone themselves - I simply don’t have enough laudatory epithets to describe this delight from learning new horizons of the Arbor’s consciousness and puzzles in the style - “put dark bread in the breadbasket - the balcony door stopped closing on Tuesdays” . I play on the console, i.e. no mods, no console available (sorry for the tautology). At the same time, I continue to like this whole “Dom-3” (without sarcasm), just after the next baubles, the smile has nowhere to blur - thanks to the authors for such gymnastics of mimic muscles. I’ll probably take up a Ph.

Building blocks from different categories (rooms, atrium, etc.) can be joined to each other with only two figovins - a staircase and a doorway (not the door itself, but the wall with an opening from any group). Then this opening can be removed or replaced with anything.

With certain dances with a tambourine (I’ll describe the technology if it’s interesting), and sometimes even without them, you can drown the blocks deep into the wall, ceiling or even the floor and neither beams nor walls will interfere with them, but you should forget a screwdriver, a nut or just crumbs on the floor everything is an insurmountable obstacle.

If you decide to install elevators (oddly enough, they fit perfectly with the levels of the shelter), be sure to make an alternative path to important objects with stairs. When all the generators fail for the first time (and this is very likely to happen) behind doors that work without energy. If it doesn’t fit into your design, you can make it with any narrow ladders between natural and building walls - no matter how hard you try, according to the developers’ plan, there is a lot of space left so that the children of the Vault, who grew up in jelly conditions, could at least run somewhere “behind the garages”

The gazebo has a good sense of humor - rubber in batches (believe me in 88 you will need it) can only be bought from dirty doctors. For the Russian ear, it’s even more fun - the first Dr. Sun (in Diamond City), the second, though not Vyn, but Weathers (goes along the route Bunker Hill - Country Crossing - Finch Farm - Salem - Sweatshop - Bunker Hill). There is not much rubbish with rubber - take care.

Well, if I correctly read the word "organically" in the author's post, here I can only recommend the method of scientific poke and expanders of consciousness (ask for Arbor, they will fill it).
I tried to put a reverse pyramid in the center of the first hall from the bottom up, it looks powerful and interesting, but despite the huge space, there is a feeling of some kind of sloppiness, there is not enough freedom above the head - fuck it. If you are only interested in functionality, you can add straight semi-pyramids from the walls, then there are only free corridors expanding to the top, but for me this is already a harsh grotesque. There is still enough space for closed cages in the other sectors of the shelter, and in the first one you can’t imagine anything better than the classics - walls with free marches to the maximum width, finishing to taste. No functionality, but pleases the eye. To correct the latter, only the southern wing was built up with infrastructure rooms.

I think the idea is clear from a couple of photos, the rest are under the spoiler so that
- Boast of)))
- Show how you can still get around the superbalance from the Arbor "let's make more indestructible slag in the BUILDING DLC, it will make the game more atmospheric for 15 minutes, but the fact that for the next few hours it will only spit in the way, there will be a lot of places"

View from the caretaker's office (for now, this post is occupied by an eternally young lady like Faina Georgievna from the plot, who remained behind the scenes)

... and from the room of the future Overseer from the previous picture)))

If something does not work out - write, I will help in any way I can. If it turns out well - lay out your ideas, at least I'm definitely interested.

P.S. - Vault-Tec gave you the tools - now it's up to you! (DLC announcement)
