Step 3: Attaching the Clasp

Before this procedure, put an old newspaper on the table. Working with glue is a pretty messy business.

Prepare all materials: glue, gypsy needle, pliers, string and any piece of fabric left after sewing the wallet.

Open the clasp and squeeze a little glue into both of its grooves (see photo). You do not need to pour in a lot of glue, otherwise it will stain the fabric as it flows out.

Using a gypsy needle or wooden skewer, spread the glue evenly along the entire length of the fastener.

Follow the instructions for using your chosen glue so you know when to attach the fabric to the clasp.

Before attaching the fabric to the fastener, check the correct position of the parts (the lining must be inside). Then, starting from the side of the fastener, wrap the edge of the glued fabric around the paper cord and push the needle into the groove of the fastener (see photo).

Continue to push the fabric with the cord into the grooves of the wallet clasp with your hands. If the adhesive leaks out of the grooves when pressed, gently wipe it off with a cloth. Cut off the excess piece of paper cord.

Note: If something does not work out, or it turns out crooked (for example, a seam looks out of the groove), you can safely remove the fabric from the groove, straighten it and insert it back.

Finally, wrap a piece of excess fabric around the handles of the clasp and with pliers, gently (not hard) pinch the grooves around the lace in some places of the clasp.

The coin purse is ready!

Check again that no glue residue is visible on the fabric and clasp.
