Walkthrough

Scenarios in Phantasy Star III are indivisible, but for ease of explanation they can be broken down into missions. Refer to the attached maps if something is not clear.

SCENARIO 1, DESTRUCTION OF KING CESIL "a

MISSION 1. Search for MIEU. The game starts in LANDAN "e, your father's city. You are Prince RHYS. You have to marry Princess MAIA. Unfortunately, you have no money, so it's useless to go into any buildings. You can talk to the residents, but this is not necessary - nothing they won't tell you anything particularly important. the guards will tell you that princess MAIA is waiting for you there and will not let you go anywhere else.Go to the top left of the four rooms available to you: MAIA will be waiting for you. as you and MAIA go to the king, he blesses you, but as soon as the wedding ceremony begins, when suddenly a dragon arrives, grabs the princess and takes it away, saying that the people of ORAKIO will never get it.The prince runs back and forth in fury and despair.
shouting threats and gathering an army. However, the king interrupts all his preparations and orders you to be taken to prison so that you can "sober up" there. You are taken away and imprisoned in the castle's dungeon. This is where you start taking action. There are three chests in the room. In the left is a knife, in the right is a card, on average - 300 coins. When you take everything (and only then), go to the door. Behind it, you will be waiting for LENA, who will open the door for you and lead you out of prison. You find yourself in a city. The game starts.
You now have money. Get yourself some decent weapons without buying armor (save money), buy some herbs as well, and get out of the city. Now you need to go to the third city, which is located on the island, across the bridge. On the way you will be attacked by all sorts of parodies of monsters. After entering the city, go to the very top of the city and talk to the man at the top in the square. He will tell you that he saw a girl by the lake in the northeast. Go there (see map); Mieu will stand by the lake. Talk to her and she will join your forces.

MISSION 2. Take Sapphire. Together with Mieu, return to the city, buy her a second Claw (so that she hits twice) and go to the second city, which is on the lake, with a ship. There you need to talk to the man at the top right fountain. He will allow you to take your ship, on which you will get to where, according to legend, there is a cave with the legendary Sapphire, which opens the gates to another world. Go to the ship and get into it. After landing on the shore, go to the cave (see map). In the cave, take the Sapphire after talking with Lyle "m, and quickly reel the fishing rods into the city, where you sign up.

MISSION 3. Destroy the winter cold. After taking Sapphire, go to the east, into the cave, which was previously closed. Sapphire will open a passage for you there. From the cave you find yourself in a passage between the worlds. Walk along it, guided by the map. You will exit from the other side already in another world, the world of the oceans. It will be covered with the ice of the witching winter. You need to turn off winter, and you can only do this by turning the switches on the weather machine. This car is located in the desert world, in the meteorological tower, on the first floor. Go down the bridge, then right. There you will see two destroyed buildings. Approximately between them, below, there are invisible ruins. Enter them - this is your transition to the desert world (No. 3). Focus on the map. After moving to the desert world, go to the city. There is only one city in this world and it is located in the middle of the map, just at the mouth of the only river that flows here. There, rest and go to the southeast, to the meteorological tower. The tower itself has two floors. On the map, go to the weather machine (you don't need to go to the second floor yet) and use it (button A). Now head back to the city in the middle of the desert (cyborg city). Go all the way to the left without turning anywhere. You will see a cave in the mountains. Enter it; approximately in the middle of the cave will be a cyborg Wren. Approach him and he will join your forces. Leave the cave as quickly as possible and get to the city, where you sign up, heal, and after that go straight to the second world. There will be no more winter, and there will be a ship waiting for you at the shore, ready to sail. Dive on it and swim straight into the sea.

MISSION4. Find LENA. LENA is located in Shudohana Castle. that on the island where you sailed. There are two cities in close proximity to each other. lower town completely useless, so you can immediately go to the top. Sign up there and go to the castle. The gates of the castle will be closed, but you can go there only through the fountain located in the upper left corner of the city. There is a secret passage in the fountain.
Follow the map to the castle. There (also on the map) get to the corridor immediately to the right of LENA. Here LYLE will separate from you. who joined you on the road to the second world. By the way, do not forget to buy him a second Staff for a two-handed attack. Go to LENA. To make LENA yours
friend, you will have to fight one on one with Lyle "ew. If you win, he will again become your ally, just like LENA, who will join you.

MISSION 5. Death of King Caesar. Exit through the black gate. Go south, back to the third world, to the meteorological tower. Now you need to go to the second floor, where you will find the planet machine. Turn it on, the planets will move. Go back to the second world to the place where LENA joined you. There is a small cape in the north of the island. Approach it and a secret bridge across the ocean will open. Now go up there, to the city of Caesar The castle is closed, so you can get into it only through a large labyrinth. It is necessary to enter (see the map) into the third fountain on the left. Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom, released in Japan as Toki no Keishōsha: Phantasy Star III Sega home console Mega Drive(Sega Genesis) in Japan in April 1990, in Western countries in 1991. The game has also been released in three compilations, such as the Phantasy Star Collection for the Sega Saturn and Game Boy Advance and the Sega Genesis Collection for the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable, later re-released for the Virtual Console system. The game was also released in Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

The game is a continuation of the second part of the series, although the connection with other games in the series is illusory. The gameplay is similar to earlier games in the series with a turn-based combat system and random encounters. Players must explore the ground maps and dungeons in order to progress through the game.

Game process

Phantasy Star III follows the traditional video role-playing formula seen in past games in the series, featuring exploration of 2D worlds, recruitment of characters, and random monster encounters with turn-based combat. Unlike previous games, the main series of games, the methods of this game include reducing the role in combat. This is ironically reflected in the role played in differentiating the game between the two major factions - the exceptionally technical Layans and the non-technical but physically powerful Orakians. New features of the combat system include automatic battles through the icon menu.

The main feature that sets Phantasy Star III apart from traditional games in the series is that the story spans three generations of heroes. At the end of each campaign throughout the game, main character gets the opportunity to marry one of two women he encountered during his travels. This choice determines a new kind of main character, a new generation - a child from the previous owner. This choice also affects gameplay - the player can become an Orakian or a mixture of Orakian and Layan, which differ in technical ability and skill level. Two paths in the second generation, in turn lead to four paths in the third and final generation, and depending on which of the four main characters plays the ending can be different.

Series continuity

According to the translation into English language, the game's story takes place simultaneously with Phantasy Star IV, as both games are said to take place 1000 years after the events of Phantasy Star II, though this has never been stated. In fact, in the Japanese version of the game, events take place 1000 years "after" the events of Phantasy Star IV. This has important implications in succession. First of all, this means that the Devastation War between Orakio and Laya in the American version did not take place until some time after the release from Palma. In the Japanese version, this means that Dark force(Eng. Dark Force) is still present, despite the densification away from Profound Darkness (Eng. Profound Darkness) in Phantasy Star IV.

The wrecked Worldship is similar to the Alice III ship seen on the surface of Motavia in Phantasy Star IV. However, this is not a ship itself, but a type of evacuation fleet that escaped destruction on the Palm in the second game. The android Wren that appears in this game is not related to Ren from Phantasy Star IV, except for a similar model. In the Japanese version of the game, Ren is named Searren, while in the fourth game he is named Forren.

(English Miun) - an ancient type of cyborgs like Mieu, who once fought with Orakio along with Sirena. Badly battered by an unknown conflict, she now roams the desert of Aradia, and her only function now is to wish to meet Orakio again. Her memories were damaged, however, she remembered Orakio's sword well. When one of the heroes of the third generation approaches her with a sword, she mistakes him for Orakio. Seeing him again, he turns off and acquires the legendary Mieu claw.

(English Rulakir) twin brother of Orakio. His own family was killed long ago during the war, and his hatred keeps him alive all the time. Consumed by darkness, you must kill him for his and your release, as his bars block your path for the final confrontation.

Dark force

(English Dark force) is a legendary evil. Trapped under the waters of Landen, you free him completely from Orakio's sword and, having restored the sword, must destroy him completely in order to save Alice III from his terror.

On the plus side, Phantasy Star III presents a unique gameplay of "generations" and characters. Other critics felt that the game was too different from its peers. Critics cite subtle differences in the ending, poor combat animation quality, and a less exciting ending than the second game. However, it has a high score of 70% on Game Rankings.

The game was reviewed in 1991 issue 176 of Dragon magazine by Hartley, Patricia, and Kirk Lesser in the "The Role of Computers" column. Reviewers gave the game 4 out of 5 stars. They noted that they "saw it differently from Phantasy Star II" but praised Phantasy Star III for being "creative in every way", including choosing who to marry, different endings, and playing a bigger role in the lives of the characters. Electronic Gaming Monthly gave the game an 8 out of 10. Nintendo Power called the game a "lifeless third in the series", noting that without Rieko Kodama, the game fell short of expectations. The icon menu inspired a similar system in Shining in the Darkness (1991).

According to MegaTech, the only drawback is that "the game costs as much as $50!". Mega magazine placed the game at number 12 on the " Best Games of all time on the Mega Drive."

Unfortunately, the clock of one of the most famous and revered JRPG series in history stopped a long time ago, back in 1994, after which Sega graciously accompanied us into the online wilds - first on DC, then on PC, GC and Xbox. A new online miracle is on its way with the word Universe in the title, which has little in common with the good old, almost become Algo's native system. Therefore, I consider it necessary to breathe once again, say: “Eh ... but how great it was then ...” and return to the fourth part of the series Phantasy Star, which is the apotheosis of the series, and according to some - even the pillar of the entire genre of Japanese role playing. Why?

After such pretentious and pretentious introductions, there is usually a slightly tedious, but necessary part of the article - a listing of the military merits of the ancestors. This will not happen. Everything has already been said before me and more than once, and the most loyal PS fans will surely be able to do it better than me. Therefore, I will only remind you once again that the Segovites released originals on Saturn and GBA, and remakes of games in the series on PS2, only in the first case they successfully bypassed the fourth, and in the second - the third part, so that a trilogy was published. And in the West Phantasy Star Trilogy for PS2 should come out just the other day (beginning of June 2005), so I recommend getting it.

In terms of plot, PS4 is a continuation of the second part, while the third in this regard was a kind of side branch dedicated to the turmoil on the supermassive ship of migrants from Palm-a. Mother Brain was destroyed by evil recidivists led by a certain Rolf, which led to a sharp technical regression and (horror!) to the death of 90% of the inhabitants of the system. High technologies have sunk into the past and few people already remembered more favorable times. As usual, 1000 years have passed, and the knowledge of the ancients began to slowly recover. Technological progress is again knocking at our door, but it is not alone (ardent opponents of clichés and platitudes can turn away here) - the great Dark Force is already striving to bite our newly minted saviors of the world for f ... in general, it hurts to bite. We are invited to play as a young mercenary Chaz-a, the first half of the game under the tutelage of a more experienced comrade-in-arms Alys (familiar name, right?), On which, after a banal sweep, do not understand which cellar in the academy, much more interesting and dangerous work falls down, inevitably leading to our blond youth to the inevitable salvation of this world. Of course, the backstory of the project is much less interesting than the scenario as a whole. A scenario that is sure to please those who played the previous PS games with references to you-know-what (see, for example, a screenshot). Moreover, he takes rather not originality and intricacy (although he is by no means deprived of the latter), but a certain atmosphere, which, nevertheless, makes it clear that the fairy tale ends (read - Sega is tired of creating brilliant JRPGs and still lag behind final fantasy and her associates, at least in commercial terms) ... And some individuals also believe that this game Sega laid the foundation for the "Iris syndrome", that is, the killing of the heroines of the game in order to arouse compassion in the (pseudo) sentimental gamer sitting at the screen =P.

In terms of gameplay structure, graphic design and accompanying parameters, the authors decided to return to the more familiar linearity inherent in the first two parts (by the way, the author of the article does not consider this to be such a positive change). Moreover, the interface and menu structure also returned “to their rightful place”, which at one time infuriated many gamers, and me in particular, with their nasty property to close every time after using a spell or item. The developers were smart enough to eliminate this, although I still liked the interface of the third part more. Introduced a unique ability to chat party characters among themselves, allowing you to find out the views of each about the current state of affairs and what needs to be done. The magic system has not changed much: they are divided into skills, which are used mostly in combat, and techniques, which are used both in and out of combat, and the latter can be combined with each other to create especially powerful spells. The PS4 game world, of course, does not include the notorious Parma (Palm, Palma in other translations) - so please be content with Motavia and Dezolis, which implies some monotony of landscapes (the planets for the most part are a traditional and icy desert, although on Motavia, due to the development of the irrigation irrigation system, including the famous “pioneer” method, traces of soil improvement are visible). Despite all this, the designers did their best to keep the monotony to a minimum - albeit not by today's standards. Although traditional for the series Phantasy Star the complete absence of mini-games has not gone away. And of course, you do not have to rely on free movement between planets. I remind you that the patient after PS2 question about the complexity of the game was resolved in the previous part, although personally the first third of the game seemed to me too light.

For some reason, most RPG gamers think the PS4 is the best graphical game on the Megadrive/Genesis. In order to debunk this misconception, I will suggest at least casually getting acquainted with little-known Chinese, but surprisingly high-quality crafts like Barver Battle Saga or Conquering the World 3, and there will be no trace of him. No, everything is wonderful - colorful landscapes, beautifully made heroes and monsters in battles (not to mention the bosses, especially the final ones). Although we should not forget about the presence of such a platform as the SNES, on which there are always more than a dozen JRPGs that are head and shoulders above the PS4 in terms of graphics, even without taking into account and. But in these two games above, there are no such beautiful story comics that all PS4 fans love and are so proud of. Of the objective claims, it is worth noting the very average character animation and not always smooth and natural animation in battles, which has not changed much since 1989 ... which, however, is more of a compliment to the PS2 developers. Therefore, you should not be offended by the eight.

The music of the game at first sets you up in a rather combative mood (of course, I mean the composition playing in the initial menu, which is close to industrial in style), but then everything breaks off. Still good melodies sound in battles, but you should be ashamed of the general musical background. Even on PS3 I liked the music more (note: the author of the article does not like the music in the first and second parts).

Perhaps some PS fans can bite me a lot deeper, but I still think the best RPG on MD, and I expressed my opinion about the PS4 at the very beginning. Undoubtedly, PS4 is Sega's best classic 16-bit RPG, which is a unique and not too common example of a sci-fi setting. Worthy and, alas, too early completion of the series - of course, online exercises do not count. It is paradoxical, but true: it was after the release of PS4 that the company Sega how failures rained down from a cornucopia: the failure of numerous extensions to the “main” console, a complete defeat in the 32-bit war and the abandonment of their own platforms in 2001. Maybe these phenomena were somehow interconnected? On the sim it is worth turning around and asking in a whisper Sega abandon your online shop and try to turn Shining Force-s in action / RPG and start developing a NORMAL fifth part Phantasy Star. Fingers crossed?
