Morrigan from dragon age. Dragon Age: Origins - Morrigan full description. Whether to kill Flemeth

Without exaggeration, we can say that Morrigan is one of the brightest characters in the world. dragon age. This seductive renegade sorceress not only manages to hide her true intentions, but is also the daughter of the legendary Flemeth. Knows Morrigan much more than it seems, and often leaves in bewilderment narrow-minded party members. Those who found this beauty in the first part of the game are waiting for her without a doubt. and umfalnoe return and in the Inquisition. She left too many questions.

Image Morrigan

Initially, the image of Morrigan was very different from that impudent and cunning girl who appears before us in the first part of the game. Initially, she borrowed many features from Flemeth. Morrigan was supposed to communicate in blank verse, but the developers abandoned this method of communication in the future, in my opinion in vain. As a result, the image of the heroine was significantly altered, she began to look less like her mother, instead, she turned into a kind of teenage girl, who is annoyed by all these speeches in blank verse, which her mother likes to abuse, however, she herself now and then says them .

Now a new problem has arisen - the voice. The casting took a very long time, but in the end, a certain Claudia Black, who starred in the role of some kind of Irene Sun from some kind of series At the End of the Universe, fell under the watchful eye of the scriptwriters. initially she didn't even audition, Claudia just sent in a voice recording hoping to get offered a job on some project in the future. The writers listened to the recording and immediately realized that they had found the right Morrigan.

H and on the occasion of the release of the third part of the game and the return of everyone's favorite, Black again tried on the role of a wayward witch and coped with the task perfectly, no wonder, because without her voice Morrigan can no longer be imagined. Yes, sometimes it happens that the actor makes the character even brighter with his voice acting. It is impossible not to mention the simply amazing voice acting of the Russian Morrigan. Olga Pletneva's voice also fits perfectly, and in some ways even better than the original.

History of the Morrigan

Why is this character so popular? In the game, Morrigan is primarily a versatile mage character who can solve problems in many ways. In addition, constant skirmishes with Alistair and other associates cannot leave anyone indifferent.

Her story is no less interesting. The point is that magic in Thedas is an ambiguous matter. All those with magical abilities are required to be under the control of the templars in the Circle of Magi, those who avoid this are called apostates and are persecuted. It is clear that Morrigan does not agree with this order. And in general, she is completely different from other characters found in the game, it is not easy for her to find a common language with others also due to her character.

Morrigan's relationship with Flemeth is also interesting. The question of their relationship is not clear and it is not clear whether she is Flemeth's own daughter. It is clear that when you are raised by a powerful werewolf witch who instills fear in people with one name, it is better not to argue with such a one. All these puzzles are perfectly combined with the plot of the game. Only at the end can one realize what the sorceress is capable of, but this knowledge will come too late.

Before the final battle of the first part with the Archdemon, Morrigan offers to make a choice. According to her assurances, a Dark ritual can be performed, as a result of which she will be able to conceive a child from the Gray Warden. After this, the Guardian will not have to make sacrifices for the sake of victory (in case of refusal, someone will have to die). The spirit of the Archdemon will thus inhabit an unborn child. As a result, such a child will have the soul of an Ancient God. After the final battle, Morrigan leaves the hero, and the fate of the child remains unknown.

As a result, an image of a strong and even powerful woman is created, because Morrigan leaves the main character, even if she fell in love with him during the game and everything was fine. Her goals seem far more important than everything that happened. Morrigan decides her own destiny, it was and will remain so.

Morrigan in the Inquisition

Morrigan's fate will become clear in Dragon Age: Inquisition, or maybe not, I haven't finished it yet. But the fact remains - just one of her appearances in the video and millions of fans clung to the monitor screens. Morrigan is not among our associates, but she will appear as a kind of adviser in our fortress and play a rather significant role in the game's plot. Will we get answers to at least some of the questions or will everything remain a secret?

In the end, I consider the Morrigan a true symbol. Dragon games Age, like the Qunari, the Circle of Magi, and so on. Without it, Dragon Age is simply unimaginable!

With whom to build, and how to develop a romantic relationship?

There are several love lines available in the game. The opportunity to start a romantic relationship with companions appears with a sufficient level of location and respect. Compliments, flirting, heart-to-heart conversations with companions in a common camp, where the whole squad gathers in between tasks, and properly constructed dialogues work wonders. For the time being, you can stay with several partners at once, but there will definitely come a moment when you have to choose. Go to new level relationships occur most often after the personal tasks of companions-lovers. True, there are exceptions: with due diligence, rapprochement occurs many times faster, and there is enough disposition to go straight from kisses to business, without completing personal tasks. In case of loss of interest, you can part with the satellite, switching your attention to other potential partners. Breaking up a relationship leads to a decrease in trust, which can be restored through deeds or gifts. It is impossible to resume a previously broken love relationship; satellites take matters of fidelity very seriously and do not forgive stabs in the back.

Companions available for relations in the game:

Female: Alistair (achievement "First Knight").
Male: Morrigan (achievement "Mad Witch").
Both genders: Leliana (achievement "Wine, Ballad, Woman"), Zevran (achievement "Careless Lover").

For love relationships with all companions in the game, the achievement "The Rake" is issued (all passages are taken into account). You can get it already during the second playthrough, if both times love lines with all possible partners were started and completed. To do this, the games are played by characters of different genders. Morrigan is considered the most compliant in Dragon Age: Origins, with her common ground is found very quickly. Zevran left not far from her, the nature of his activities in Antiva taught him to be very flexible in love matters (the end justifies the means). Alistair and Leliana will take a little longer, but they will end up in bed opposite the fire.

Alistair Teyrin

Alistair- Romantic interest for a female Guardian. He does not perceive relationships as something easy. There are many ways to start a romance with him through dialogue. Compliment him, say that you like him, in general, everything except mocking him will help win him over. If you offer him a relationship to a sufficient level of approval, he may reject it due to his inexperience, saying that he cannot take such things so lightly. Continuing to offer after this point will result in loss of approval. If you continue to earn friendship points, then he himself will invite the heroine to his tent. He likes to be loved and desired, and sometimes he responds with a touch of domesticity, but he does not like it when they laugh at intimacy.
Note: Even if you have high approval and if it is toughened up, you will have to complete one of the main quests before asking him to spend the night with the heroine.
A clear sign that Alistair is interested in the Guardian as a woman will be a gift - a rose. You can accept it or not. If Alistair has high approval and high approval with Zevran or Leliana (Adoration or Love), the next time you talk to him, Alistair will force you to choose between them.

If Alistair becomes king, the relationship will end unless the Guardian is of noble birth and Alistair is not toughened up. Even if it is toughened up, the relationship will end if the Guardian spares Loghain or chooses the wrong dialogue lines after the Gathering of the Lands. Choose the line "No one can make the king do what he doesn't want to do" to convince Alistair to continue the relationship. However, even if Alistair broke up with the Guardian, he retains tender feelings for her, although he tries to avoid talking about it in dialogues with the Guardian and other party members.

Note: A noble girl must use persuasion to marry Alistair when he chooses between her and Anora at the Gathering of Lands, though it doesn't need to be in a relationship with him or even have high approval. With Alistair toughened up, this option becomes available if the Warden refuses Riordan's offer to make Loghain Gray Warden; if the Guardian supported this idea, then the hardened Alistair becomes king and executes Loghain, this will cancel the dialogue where he will have to choose between Alistair and Anora and will give the opportunity to choose to rule with him.

If the Guardian did not agree to Morrigan's offer and took Alistair to fight the Archdemon, then he would sacrifice himself even if he parted with the Guardian on his own initiative.

If the Guardian Girl slept with Alistair, toughening him up during his personal quest, and his approval is high enough, he might agree to be third with Isabela on the ship.

During the Darkspawn Chronicles DLC, if you look at the codex page about Leliana, you can find a mention that she is Alistair's lover. (Actually, if there is a romance with Alistair, and Leliana will be a friend of the Guardian (somewhere around 45-50), then there may be a dialogue between Leliana and the Guardian, which begins with the words of Leliana "I think Alistair is crazy about you" With certain answers, Leliana explicitly states to the Guardian that if the Guardian hadn't made an attempt to mend relations with Alistair, then Leliana would have.) However, this is not hinted at in Dragon Age: Origins, even if the Guardian is not in the novel. with them.

If Alistair's approval culminates, Wynn will bring up the subject, saying she doesn't approve of the relationship and she doesn't want Alistair to suffer. And he will also try to give a fascinating lecture on the topic "Where babies come from."

Zevran Arannay

Master of seduction(according to his own statement), Zevran will openly flirt with the Guardian, and with some other companions too, albeit just as a joke. He is not too picky and clearly underestimates his requests, which makes it easier to start a romance with the Guardian, regardless of gender. Almost immediately after joining the team, he shows sympathy for the Guardian, and he can reciprocate.

Entering the location of Zevran is quite simple. He loves playful hints and inquiries about his adventures, and as long as the Guardian takes his sexual past for granted, the romance will continue. He can be asked to keep the Guard company in a tent, even at the level of "Interest", to which he will gladly agree. Afterwards, Zevran explains that he is not holding the character, and it is his choice whether their night will be an isolated incident or the bond will continue. Conversely, if Zevran has high approval and the Guardian hasn't offered to sleep with him yet, he will offer his company for the night. Asking Zevran about love afterward will result in a loss of influence, however telling him that it was just for one night will result in a much greater loss and ending of the relationship. The best option- say "It suits me." Zevran is just as faithful in relationships as the rest of the partners, although he recklessly flirts with other characters.

Regardless of the level of approval, Zevran's attitude will not change to "love" until the Gathering of the Lands is called. The group will clash with (and kill) Zevran's old friend, Taliesen, and Zevran will get a break from chasing the Ravens.

In gratitude, he offers the Guardian his earring upon his return to the camp. After that, the elf will refuse to go to the tent. If you refuse the first offer of the earring, then during a conversation on a personal topic (when the elf admits that he is embarrassed by his feelings), Zevran can offer it again, as a "sign of ... umm ... sympathy." Moreover, you can get an offer from an elf in this conversation by choosing certain replicas. However, if you take the earring only a second time, it will not appear in your inventory, this is a bug. If the Guardian responds that "the offer is too much", the relationship will end.

Leliana is a possible romantic interest for both the male Guardian and the female Guardian. The Guardian's first opportunity to kiss her is when her approval reaches "Adoration" (71 or higher) and she starts a conversation in the camp beginning with the words “I like the night at the camp. The night always looks more peaceful, I think. Safer" . However, she will not be interested in the tent and will only sleep with the Guardian if she is in love with him/her. She will not fall in love with the Guardian until her personal quest is completed and until her approval reaches a value of 91 or higher. To raise her approval, talk a lot, listen to what she tells you, be supportive, avoid criticism when she talks about the Creator, give meaningful gifts, do good deeds while she is in the group, and avoid evil acts (or at least not take her to the group when you do them).

Note: sometimes the romance does not start even with 100% approval. The nature of this phenomenon is unknown.

Note: this is due to a bug if the relationship with her develops too quickly due to gifts. Also, the personal quest becomes unavailable.

Note: the personal quest was completed, but the relationship did not develop.
In order for the quest to become available, you will have to part with Leliana, however, after completing the quest, the romance can be resumed and even completed, for this you need to choose the right lines in the conversation about Marjolaine.

If for some reason you missed the opportunity to have a romance, another attempt will appear after completing the quest with Marjoline. Ask how she feels after everything she's been through, agree that you know what she means after her answer, and in the subsequent conversation, say that people change over time. If in the end Leliana notices that you remind her of Marjoline, you are on the right track.
If, for some reason, you did not talk to Leliana about her past and reached a relationship of +100 with her, thereby losing the opportunity to complete her personal quest, it is possible to artificially set the conditions for the trigger to work. To do this, turn on the console and enter runscript zz_addapproval 9 -30 () and after that talk to Leliana in the camp, the desired remark will appear in the list, as well as the ability to complete Leliana's quest. Further, her attitude can be restored again through the console or with gifts.

If you play as a male Guardian and decide to arrange a grand end for yourself by planning to marry Anora, but at the same time keep Leliana "with you", then just do not talk to her until the epilogue and coronation. If you talk to her before that, then she will say that she respects Anora too much and refuses to stay with the Guardian. And in a conversation just before the coronation, she will say that life is already too short, and will remain the mistress of the Gray Warden. Don't forget to tighten it up.

Note: Sometimes, regardless of the relationship with Leliana, if her approval is strong enough, the affair will begin without the Guardian noticing. This causes current love interests to ask about the Guardian's relationship to Leliana and vice versa.

Morrigan

Let's move on to the most delicious! - Morrigan!

The Morrigan is perhaps the most difficult of all the characters to please when compared to other romantic interests for a male Guardian. However, she is the easiest to sleep with, only reaching 51 approval points. She will like most of the random gifts found at the beginning of the game, but she will disapprove of almost all of the Guardian's good deeds.

To successfully romance Morrigan, the player must either do some bad deeds or engage in good deeds, as long as Morrigan is not in the group, as a negative result will be more common than a decline in Leliana, Alistair, and Wynn's approval. When engaging in conversation with her, it is important to remember that Morrigan values strength more than anything else. To get her approval, one time you have to agree with her "survival of the fittest" philosophy. She despises everything that is connected with love and compassion. If the Guardian pursues a romance with both her and any other companion (Zevran or Leliana), she will start a conversation with the Guardian and force him to choose. This will end the romance with the rejected companion and lower their approval slightly, although Leliana and/or Zevran can give the Guardian an ultimatum in the same way that the Morrigan does. Eventually, Morrigan gives the Guardian a unique ring in the course of a romance with her. The ring is a bond between two people.

After completing the Grimoire Flemeth quest, she will start to fear her love for him, which will trigger a dialogue about love if her approval is high enough. There is a possibility that her approval will drop during the conversation, or the relationship will break off until the right lines are chosen.

At the end of the game, the epilogue will read that “then came the night when he was sure she was thinking of him… somewhere. She felt regret and sadness. But the ring said nothing more. No happy epilogue with Morrigan. She will leave the group immediately after the final battle, regardless of her approval. However, the romance can continue and end happily depending on your choices in Origins and conversation during the Witch Hunt DLC. As a result, the Morrigan and the Guardian share a kiss and walk through Eluvian together.

Note: Entering into an affair with Morrigan will trigger a "mother talk" with Wynn, in which she advises her to leave her. If you refuse to end the affair with the Morrigan, then after the relationship with the Morrigan will appear "love", Wynn will apologize.

If the Warden slept with Morrigan in the camp and refused her proposal at Redcliffe Castle, the epilogue will say that she is expecting a child, although the ritual was not performed. This is not a bug, but also a variant of Morrigan's epilogue. This is a hint that she unexpectedly got pregnant before the day before the final battle.

If the Guardian broke up with Morrigan when she asks for it, at the gates of Denerim she will call the Guardian "my love" (even if it's just friendship with her) and the epilogue will write about regret and sadness (even if the Guardian began another romance). It's strange that even if the ring is destroyed, you still get an epilogue about the ring.

Bugs/Cheats

If desired, Morrigan's approval +100 can be obtained almost immediately after her appearance in the squad - in Lothering. The method is guaranteed to work when playing a MAG (patch 1.05 and any earlier), with one point in the influence skill and a starting strength indicator. (theoretically possible with other classes, but a small indicator of strength is required)
We come to Lothering, we pass the robbers, we go to Stan's cell. We speak with him, learn about the reverend mother. We exclude ALL satellites from the group, except Morrigan. We go to the church, there we find the reverend mother (straight and to the right). We tell her about the Qunari in the cage, and use INTERMINATE, demanding to give up the key or life. The Morrigan rejoices at being threatened by the priests (+4), and the Reverend refuses to hand over the key (failed intimidation will only happen if the strength is low enough or she will hand over the key). After an unsuccessful intimidation, this conversation can be repeated over and over again, each time getting Morrigan's approval (the method also works on the Steam version).
In Orzammar, the merchant Garin has a special gift for the Morrigan that grants approval (+20) - the Golden Mirror. It cannot be gifted to other companions. If you give Morrigan a mirror after breaking up with her, then you can simultaneously romance both her and Leliana.

Edmonton, Canada

Canadian studio BioWare and its games have been at the center of dozens of scandals in recent years. Everything was in the news: stories about same-sex sex with aliens, mass dissatisfaction with the ending of the trilogy mass effect, the mocking use of the same locations for side quests in Dragon Age 2, the high-profile departure from the studio of its founders Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk, and ninety-nine other problems. Therefore, the audience perceived the announcement of Dragon Age: Inquisition rather coolly. No joy from the newsbreak in the press, no approval among the players ... But in vain, the dragon series is one of the last strongholds of D&D-like party role-playing games.

It will not be simplified, as it was with Mass Effect - this time BioWare decided to move away from the usual development of their series. Recall that the global conflicts in Mass Effect and Dragon Age in the sequels have shrunk to solving the everyday problems of partners, while Inquisition promises only to become even grander.

We sat down with Game Creative Director Mike Ladlow and asked him a lot of tricky questions about the game's story and characters, as well as finding out why developing an RPG on the Battlefield 4 engine.

Elven Inquisition

Inquisition begins some time after the events previous parts. The fictional world is under constant threat of destruction. Mages and templars have separated from the Church and kill each other in endless skirmishes, not really caring about civilian casualties.

The kingdom of Orlais - the land of the aristocrats - is torn apart by civil war, and Ferelden cannot recover from the Blight. The situation is worse than ever, and a huge gap appears in the sky, through which the most terrible devils penetrate the world. Previously, such a mess was possible only because of careless handling of magic: sorcerers went into the veil, through which demons could move into the unfortunate sorcerer and break out already in the real world. Now, magical intervention is not required at all, monsters are crawling from everywhere - faults appear in different places, from which rather rather big detachments of demons come out.

In most cases, opponents will attack the weakest target first.

It would seem that the warring parties should be distracted and join forces in the face of a serious threat, but the Church is more busy destroying the apostles than fighting evil. Everyone is busy with their own problems, and that's why main character by an act of will, he decides to create an inquisition, which must restore order, find out who is behind all these misadventures, and, in the meantime, save the world.

The protagonist, following the tradition of the series, is called the Inquisitor (in the previous parts of the Guardian and Defender, respectively). As you might have guessed, he will lead a powerful organization. At the same time, the new government was created contrary to the wishes of the church, which, apparently, no one is listening to. Acolytes have lost their influence over the Circle of Mages, and there is no need to even talk about the punishing order of templars - the knights have separated and live on their own.

The slime-covered vessels are suggestive of xenomorphs and facehuggers. We would not come just in case.

The Inquisitor will represent his own interests and will not become a puppet in the hands of kings and schemers. In this regard, the most interesting thing is to find out who is behind the main character. Still, such a powerful side cannot suddenly appear in the world, capable of joining forces in the fight against evil. Remember how long Hawk had to try to restore order in at least one city.

Moreover, not only a person can become a high inquisitor. Mike Ladlow says the writers have listened to fan feedback and you will be able to play an elven and dwarven inquisitor. The differences will not just be cosmetic: the choice of race will undoubtedly affect the story of the game and the attitude of other factions towards your organization. Recall, it was previously reported that, as in Dragon Age 2, it will be possible to choose only a short biography of the character, episodes from which are rarely mentioned in the dialogues.

Everyone's favorite dwarf Varric and his trusty crossbow Bianca are back in Inquisition.

Despite the fact that the main character is already quite an authoritative figure (otherwise he would hardly have been able to found a whole order), he still has to earn a reputation. BioWare, although they emphasize that Inquisition will have an unimaginable scale, the development of the storyline will be relatively linear. The tasks from the characters in your team will not disappear anywhere either. In practice, this can mean that we first complete many different side quests (the world is big, there is always work), earn reputation, and when we reach a certain level, we move on to another story arc.

no biggie

According to Mike, the studio is trying to bring back the spirit of adventure and exploration to Dragon Age. The game will have a spacious pseudo-open world, as in " Witcher 2”, where you will have almost complete freedom of movement. Maps will become so large that mounts will be needed to move efficiently. The fast travel system between regions has been retained.

"In Inquisition, you'll be able to visit long-abandoned places where you won't have anyone standing behind you as you scour ancient ruins and caverns," says Ladlow. - Frostbite 3 engine new system lighting allows us to create really dark dungeons with interesting puzzles based on light.

Arrow to the knee

Human resources play a critical role in any organization. First of all, these are your comrades-in-arms, the Inquisitor's party members, whose importance and influence on the course of battles will noticeably increase compared to the previous parts.

At the same time, the battles themselves will become much more difficult: BioWare decided to take the system of injuries and wounds from the first part and improve it a little. Characters will not be able to fully restore health after the battle, full-fledged treatment will require the use of some special items. Because of this, you will have to be attentive to each battle, not to expose the Inquisitor and his partners to enemy attacks. AT new Dragon Age, like in an MMORPG, you need to competently control the aggression of opponents and distribute it between strong tank knights and fragile, but deadly damage sorcerers.

The developers are happy to talk about the interactivity of the game world, but do not mention the most important thing: is it possible to set fire to a terrible green gas under a terrible green undead?

Opponents, in turn, will learn to act in a coordinated manner. The number of opponents will decrease, but "it will be difficult to win, especially without well-coordinated teamwork." In addition, the enemies will often not match the level of the party - there is a chance to stumble upon a particularly vicious creature that will easily scatter your entire Inquisition.

Recall that in the previous game on high level the difficulty was not to survive without combining the abilities of different classes. However, the battle was useless to plan, and the random appearance of enemies in droves from nowhere caused righteous anger and game over.

The detail on the characters is amazing. You probably can't see it, but sweat is running down the heroine's face.

The Canadians promise that in Inquisition we will not see such a bedlam: each battle will be justified by the plot and thought out by the designers. Imagine that the squad enters an open area, available for attacks from several sides. In this case, abilities like placing traps or spells that hit a group of enemies at once will come in handy.

Equally important is your location. Arrows of a conditional archer standing on top of a hill will hit more painfully. Accordingly, all the usual tactical elements like an attack from the back or the verticality of the cards are in place. They mined one approach, forced the enemy to attack only from one side - and there your shooter can already provide support, and it’s more convenient for the thief to quietly sneak behind the enemy’s back in order to vilely deliver a critical blow.

In Inquisition, covering your own and monitoring the health of the characters is critical - between battles, it is restored with difficulty, or even not restored at all.

By the way, with the same archer, a “convenient” location can play a cruel joke. The game uses the Frostbite 3 physics engine, which means partial destructibility and sane body physics, and the sorcerer will surely have a spell that can throw off an impudent shooter with a gust of wind.

Diplomat

Many disputable situations can be completely resolved without unnecessary bloodshed - through negotiations. The developers decided to change the dialogue system a little, and now, while communicating with the NPC, the main character can turn away and leave at any time. The idea is interesting, and they promised to implement it in the Mass Effect series. So far, the practical benefits of abruptly ending the conversation are not entirely clear. It is clear that being rude in the face of kings and magicians is a thankless task, so it will be possible to quit only some dialogues, as well as conversations with all sorts of merchants, beggars and onlookers. They, of course, may well hold a grudge against the hero, but the inquisitor is a busy person, you can’t talk to everyone.

Behind the veil, as you can see, it is gloomy and scary, which is why the demons strive for the ordinary world.

But he will always have time to talk and take a walk with his colleagues. Apparently, the vow of celibacy does not apply to the order, so you should prepare for office romances and intrigues. Mike explains: “Our position has not changed since Baldur's Gate 2. We believe that love line- an important part of the story, and many fans agree with us. However, it is not necessary to have romances, the player is free to decide whether to enter into a relationship or not.

Heavy volcanic gold armor

The second part of the personnel issue of such a large organization is the recruitment of the army. A small detachment is unlikely to be able to successfully resist evil, so the Inquisition will have to unite dissenting parties and expand its sphere of influence. We have already seen something similar in Mass Effect 3 and Dragon Age: Origins: we travel the world and by hook or by crook we recruit soldiers under our banners.

Such a sketch can mean only one thing: that castle on the mountain will soon be covered in blood to the very foundation.

However, Inquisition goes further. Ladlow draws attention to the fact that the order does not have a strictly prescribed charter, and the image and order of a powerful force will gradually change from the actions of the player. For example, if you take defeated enemies into the army, their opponents will be angry with you. In addition, the main character is able to change the heraldry and colors of the banners of the Inquisition.

But the repainting of the flag in pink still fades against the backdrop of manufacturing unique items. For the first time in the series, you will be allowed to forge your own weapons, armor and other equipment, which, with the right approach, can be only slightly inferior to the best specimens, but at the same time be exotic in shape and yellow with green flecks.

Inquisition, fortunately, did not follow the path of Mass Effect 3. We are waiting for a harsh game where you have to manage a large party, spend hours collecting unique sets of armor through the caves and use the talents of each team member to survive in protracted battles with cunning opponents. In recent years role-playing games more and more shifted towards action, and there is nothing wrong with that - other times, other mores. But it's great that expensive, beautiful and at the same time extremely hardcore role-playing games are being made by someone else.

Will wait?

Dragon Age returns to role-playing roots, taking the most successful and progressive innovations of the second part, along the way peeping something from competitors.

Dear friends! We present to your attention a large article dedicated to one charismatic character of the Dragon Age: Origins game, the witch Morrigan. We hope you find it interesting.

The Morrigan is one of the most enigmatic characters that grace the Dragon Age universe.

A charming mages, makes everyone wonder about her true motives and knows much more than she shows to others. Judging by the excitement generated by the appearance of the Morrigan in the trailer Dragon Age: Inquisition at E3, fans are very excited about her return. There are so many questions left about her whereabouts after performing a dark ritual to conceive a child, and Inquisition is her chance to return with honor. In addition to what we want to tell you about Morrigan, we also visited the Bioware studio to talk about the creation of one of the most talked about characters. dragon age and her role in Dragon Age: Inquisition.

On the Creation of the Morrigan

The original image of Morrigan, invented by the main writer, David Gaider, was significantly different from the defiant and uncooperative woman presented to us in Dragon Age: Origins. Even more amazing is that in the beginning, Gaider wrote Morrigan in the style of her sworn enemy: Flemeth, the woman who raised her. “Remember meeting Flemeth and how she spoke in intricate and florid sentences? I created Morrigan in the same style,” says lead writer David Gaider. "She would never say anything openly and directly."

Gaider wanted the players to guess the meaning of what was said, as if playing slot machines online, every time she opened her mouth, but soon, he and his team came to the conclusion that the image of a fancy Morrigan simply would not work. Gaider had to rewrite it in a different manner and liked the idea of creating a character who spoke stubbornly. So he found a compromise. “Instead of making her look like Flemeth, I decided to portray Morrigan as a young girl who simply contradicts her mother. She's terribly stubborn because she doesn't like her mother talking in riddles,” Gaider says.

Having solved one problem, the team was faced with a new one: finding the perfect voice. BioWare considers this to be one of the most defining elements of the character. "Testing for the role of Morrigan went on forever," says Gaider. At some point, the team chose one actress, but following the original concept of Morrigan, they decided that she could not work the way the developers imagined. However, then, in the most unexpected way, Claudia Black (the actress who played Aeryn Sun in Farscape) appeared. "She didn't audition for the role of Morrigan," Gaider recalls. On the contrary, Black sent her recording and just wanted to let you know that she is ready to participate in future projects. “We listened to the recording and immediately realized that “this is it”. Of course I also watched Farscape so it was great,” adds Gaider.

Even as time passed, Black returned to work in the trailer and provided exactly what BioWare needed. “She hits the nail on the head with her whiskey rough voice, which works great,” says Gaider. “Every once in a while, you come across an actor whose voice fits perfectly from the first minute and makes the best of what you have created,” adds Gaider.

The Morrigan We Know

Fans quickly fell in love with Morrigan's mystique and sharp tongue, especially during her skirmishes with fellow team member Alistair. This is the trait that reveals its history and position in the world. dragon age. Magic is feared in Thedas, and in order to keep this power under control, all magicians must appear in the Circle of Magi. It came as no surprise to anyone that Morrigan refused to comply, becoming an outcast mage, an apostate isolated from civilization. Her view of the world is drastically different from most of the characters you'll encounter in Dragon Age, which is why Morrigan didn't have a lot of connections or relationships with them.

It's not hard to see that Morrigan has a tense relationship with Flemeth, as Morrigan isn't sure if the witch is really her mother. It is hard to come to terms with the power of your guardian if she is a legendary werewolf witch who can only kill a person by catching fear on him. The connection between the Morrigan and Flemeth is a mystery, but there is always the feeling that they have their own ulterior motives.

The mysterious image of Morrigan perfectly worked out for the plot and what Gaider consciously sought. “I let Morrigan talk about herself often, and given the game's ending, I wanted players to walk away thinking, 'how much of this is true?',” Gaider says. “You feel like a fool for admitting her mystique and the fact that she benefits from it, right? She is well aware of the power that she has ... "

Before the final battle with the Archdemon in Origins, Morrigan provides players with a difficult choice. She claims that a special Dark Ritual will enable her to conceive a child and save Gray Wardens from the terrible sacrifice that the latter want to make. The Magessa explains that after defeating the enemy, the essence of the Archdemon will inhabit the unborn child. The Morrigan believes that this child will acquire the soul of the Old God. After the battle, she leaves, and the fate of the child remains unknown.

Gaider firmly believes in Morrigan leaving to continue her mission. “From my point of view, the creation of a strong female character requires her to have her own goals,” says Gaider. “For me, the most important aspect when writing a story for Origins was that even if Morrigan falls in love with the player by the end of the game, she continues to believe in her goal, which is so important to her that the mage is willing to achieve it despite the player. The Morrigan has her own destiny."

Morrigan's role in Dragon Age: Inquisition

Morrigan's fate rekindles interest in Dragon Age: Inquisition, and the question of what role she is assigned to the game does not allow fans to sit quietly in their chairs. However, it is already clear what role it will definitely not play. "I think it's fair to let people know that Morrigan won't be one of the player's companions," says art director Mike Laidlaw. "This may be disappointing for some players, but I feel like we need to be honest about this." However, her role is important. “This is not an episodic character. She plays a crucial role,” Gaider teases.

Laidlaw and Hyder's excitement about her return to Inquisition perceptibly. They have been working on the return of the mages for a long time. "Thanks to Dragon Age: Origins, we can partially learn about the main storyline Inquisition which has been in the process of being written for a very long time,” Laidlaw shares with us. "Plot Inquisition“Morrigan’s finest hour and that’s how you should think about it.” Fans hoped to meet her in Dragon Age II, but could only hear mention of it a few times. Waiting for the moment to meet Morrigan again has turned into real agony: fans have been waiting since 2010 (when DLC Witch Hunt) to reunite with her. "I think you can say that in Dragon Age II we haven't touched on that story, but it's always been there, waiting for us,” Gaider says.

When we asked if the player's decisions in the past would play a role, such as if you had an affair with Morrigan, Gaider replied: “Yes. There are quite a few different stages because we didn't know where to stop when it came to making decisions. They are all recognizable. One way or another, they will have a significant meaning, such as the relationship of individual characters to the player. We will be able to capture it to a greater or lesser extent, depending on the environment.”

Does this mean that Inquisition will give answers to all the accumulated questions? The dark ritual does not leave the thoughts of the fans from the exit Origins, but Morrigan hides many more secrets. “Morrigan is given a human role in this story, which I think might surprise some people, because they might just see her as a plot driver,” says Gaider. "She's involved in a long storyline and during that time, I gave her a human role. It will make sense in due time."

Dragon Age: Inquisition continues the story that has played out since 2009. Being a wonderful and unpredictable character, Morrigan is not destined to stay with the usual role. In addition, Morrigan desires change in the world and this may be her chance to make her dreams come true.

More surprisingly, in the beginning, Gaider wrote Morrigan in the style of her nemesis: Flemeth, the woman who raised her. “Remember meeting Flemeth and how she spoke in intricate and florid sentences? I created Morrigan in the same style,” says lead writer David Gaider. "She would never say anything openly and directly."

Gaider wanted the players to guess the meaning of what she said every time she opened her mouth, but it didn't take long for him and his team to come to the conclusion that the fancy Morrigan image simply wouldn't work.
