Programs for displaying load in games. How to find out how many FPS are in the game using the Fraps program. What should be the FPS for a comfortable game

If you need to monitor the processor and video card in the game, and at the same time you would not refuse to display the frame rate (FPS) during the game, then the easiest way to get all this for free is install MSI Afterburner.

The program is simple and clear, its only drawback is the very small default interface buttons.

MSI Afterburner can monitor all the parameters a player needs:

  • GPU temperature.
  • CPU temperature.
  • The load level of both, to determine the "bottlenecks" of the system.
  • Frame rate (FPS).
  • The rotation speed of the video card cooler.
  • As well as many other indicators that are not so necessary for the average gamer, such as frequencies and voltages, as well as information about the page file. Of course, you yourself assign what to monitor and display on the Overlay Screen Display (OED, aka OSD).
  • And MSI Afterburner can capture videos and screenshots, and overclock the graphics card. In general, a complete mincemeat!

The data can not only be monitored, but also displayed on the screen during the game, so that you can enjoy real-time numbers without turning off the game every minute. By the way, along with all these statistics, you can also display the clock on the screen, which can be very convenient.

One of the features of the program is the display of peak values on the monitoring graphs, so there is no need to scroll through the graphs - just glance at the little red numbers above them.

Configuring MSI Afterburner

To begin with, we poke the Settings button at the bottom of the program panel:

At the top of the window that appears:

  1. select the "Monitoring" tab;
  2. check the boxes on the list items that we want to monitor. Drag the lines with the mouse in the order you want them to appear in the game;
  3. while the line item is selected, it can be assigned - whether it will be displayed in the OED during the game, or not (and at the same time the color, name, and other properties).

As you can see, in the screenshot, the Frame Rate is not checked, but you usually need to check it, unless your FPS is displayed by the game itself, or by another program.

After that, I advise you to see what is hidden in other tabs of this panel, especially in the far right - Interface.

Configuring the EOS MSI Afterburner

So, in order to configure the display of FPS and monitoring data during the game, in the same settings panel, find the OED tab, and there the "Advanced" button. Clack her!

The OED settings window opens. In it you have to do the following things:

  1. Make sure the EOS display switch is in the ON position (if not, you know what to do!).
  2. Optional: turn it on if suddenly the anti-cheat in the game swears.
  3. Optional: affects the display method (roughly speaking, the font) of the EOS. It is best to choose Raster 3D, where you can adjust the font by clicking on the inscription Raster 3D again.
  4. The shadow of the font is better to turn on (switch to the ON position).
  5. Choose the font color of the OED to your taste!
  6. Squares at the corners of the monitor - fast way move the EOS to the desired corner of the monitor. Or you can simply drag and drop the OED with the mouse, or set its coordinates manually.

That, perhaps, is all about the quick setup of MSI Afterburner to monitor the processor and video card in the game. If you need detailed overview program features, see one of the best videos on this topic from Artyom:

Before reviewing several applications, you need to understand why you need program to show fps in games.

The FPS indicator shows the number of frames per second during the game. If this value falls below 25, the game turns into a "slide show" and the user will not be able to control the actions of the character or the equipment he controls, respond to danger in a timely manner, etc. Experienced gamers say that for a comfortable game it is necessary that the FPS be at least 60, only in this case the game will not lag and freeze. That is why the control over this characteristic is very important and the user will be able, if necessary, to lower the quality of textures, special effects, etc. to increase the FPS.

Among the programs for showing FPS in games, the most popular are:

  • Fraps.
  • MSI Afterburner.
  • overwolf.

This program is ideal for those gamers who do not like to delve into the details of the settings. It is enough to install it and when you turn on the game, in the upper left corner, by default, the FPS indicator will be displayed.

This program will also allow you to record videos of the game process. The settings are quite simple and do not require special skills to figure out what and how to set. The only drawback is the huge size of the resulting video file, but, as a rule, the recorded video is edited and the size can also be reduced by converting to a more compact format.

MSI Afterburner

This software will be a real boon for game lovers. In addition to the fact that this program displays the FPS in the game, it can be used to overclock hardware. The only thing worth warning about is that if you are not a very advanced user, it is better not to experiment with the settings, because how can you make your computer much worse. And although the name contains the brand name, the program works with any components, regardless of the manufacturer.

To install the program, visit the official website and download it. During the installation process, the user will be prompted to additionally install Riva Tuner Statistics Server. Be sure to check the box and install this extra wrapper.
After installation, a standard program window will appear in front of you. To fully use this software, click on the "Settings" button located at the bottom right of the window.
The settings window will display several tabs. Go to the "Monitoring" tab and check the boxes of the items you are interested in, and they will be displayed in the overlay (in particular, to display the FPS, you need to check the box "Frame rate"). Also, in order for all parameters to be shown, it is necessary to check the item “Show in Overlay Screen Display”, after which, in the “Properties” column, the inscription “in OED” should be displayed.

Overwolf

The Overwolf program opens up many opportunities for the gamer, including displaying the FPS during the game. To download this program, just visit the application store and install it for free. To display the FPS, go to "Settings", go to the FPS tab and check the box next to "Enable FPS monitoring".

In PC games, it can happen that for some reason a game that should run fine on your hardware slows down and freezes. And in order to understand what is the matter and which component of the system does not pull the game, you can display on top of the game on the screen the load of the processor, video card and at the same time the frame rate.

To do this, you need a free utility (you need to install it along with Riva Tuner). Open it, click on the Settings > Monitoring button, and select the checkboxes that you want to see in games on the screen (you can also drag them with the mouse in the desired order):

You can also choose the update period for this information, but you should not set it less than 500 ms, especially on weak computers. After that, in the same tab, check the box "Show in Overlay Screen Display" for each item that we want to see on the screen in the game.

Now go to the OED tab, optionally select the button on which the selected information will be displayed, and click on the "Advanced" button. The Riva Tuner window will open - enable Show On-Screen Display in it and set the Application detection level to "High". Also, optionally, turn on font shadows (they will be better visible) and select a color. Below you can choose which side of the display the information will be shown on:

That's it, after that start the game and you should see information about the system boot on the screen:

If it is not there, turn off any other programs that also display something on the screen (for example, Fraps).

A slightly more sophisticated FPS counter for games using Direct3D, which can also capture additional technical information such as the number of rendered polygons per second and the number of polygons per frame. Capabilities:

  • displaying readings in the form of a graph over the game image and switching between counters by pressing hot keys;
  • recording readings in a log file;
  • enable / disable V-sync without restarting the game by pressing a hot key;

This program does not work for applications using DirectX 10 and above.

System requirements:

  • Operating system Windows 2000/XP
  • Video card based on GeForce256/Radeon R100 or newer
  • License type: ShareWare (in free version there is no possibility to turn off the overlay logo, and the recording time in the log file is limited to 30 minutes)

    The program offers several tools for monitoring and collecting statistics, and for the most part is intended for enthusiasts and streamers. The main functionality allows you to:

    • determining the frame rate during rendering, i.e. at the beginning of graphics processing, and the frequency of the displayed frames, i.e. at the end of the processing process;
    • frame rate scores in the 90th, 95th, and 99th percentiles. Reviewers typically use the 99th percentile. If he is close to average, then it can be argued that the game is displayed smoothly and without jerks;
    • start benchmark mode. In this mode, pressing a hot key starts capturing statistical data for a previously preset period of time. To maximize performance, the overlay is disabled for the duration of the benchmark.

    To estimate the power consumption in games, the utility allows you to display the consumption of the GPU. This value is encoded in the overlay as "CHP". It is also possible to determine the power consumption of the entire video card. This parameter is called "TGP" and it does not take into account the power consumption of devices connected to the USB -C output of GeForce RTX video cards.

    In addition, there is a definition of specific energy consumption, "PPW". This value shows the performance per watt over the last few seconds, and is calculated using the formula: F/J = (F/S) / (J/S), where:

    • F/J= Frame rate ÷ Joule. A joule is the equivalent of one watt radiated or dissipated per second;
    • (F/S)= frames per second (FPS);
    • (J/S)= Watts per second (TGP).

    System requirements:

    • Operating system Windows 7/8/8.1/10
    • DirectX 9 and up, OpenGL, Vulkan

Hi all. today I will talk about a program that can easily raise FPS in any game, even on weak computer! More precisely, there will be 2 programs - for Nvidia and AMD/ATI video cards. Programs allow you to make deep settings for the video card driver and disable everything that can affect FPS boost in games. Download the archive using the download button. Inside the archive there will be 2 folders for Nvidia and AMD/ATI video cards. Depending on which video card you have installed, unzip the desired folder and run or install the program you need. If you do not know what video card you have, you can download the program and find out through it. I'll show you more in my video about FPS increase.

Configuring the program for NVIDIA graphics cards

After you unzip the program, run the "nvidiaInspector.exe" file. I recommend running the program as an administrator. Next, find the line Driver Version and click on the icon at the end of the line.

The NVIDIA Profile Inspector application will launch. In it, you can choose settings for all games or only for those with low FPS. In the application, we are most interested in a few lines:

  • Antialiasing - Transparency Supersamling. Set the value to AA_MODE_REPLAY_MODE_ALL
  • Texture filtering - LOD Bias (DX). We put any value +, the more + the worse the textures in the game will be, but there will be more FPS.
  • Texture filtering - LOD Bias (OGL).We put any value +, the more + the worse the textures in the game will be, but there will be more FPS.

Now see what the game will look like:

Thanks to this manipulation, you can increase the FPS in the game by 5 times! For more details on these settings, see my video:

Increasing FPS for AMD\ATI video cards

After you unzip the program, run the "attsetup.exe" file, install the program, do not touch any checkboxes. After installation, run the program. I want to write right away that the program is old and does not work on Windows 10, on more old Windows works fine. Next, do this:

  • We are looking for the button Direct3D --> Settings --> Additional.
  • We see a line of LOD textures and move the slider to the right, for example, to a value of 7.0 (the most blurry mode) and press the apply button.

We get almost the same as described above, FPS increases by 5-7 times, but the textures become blurry. This is such a slight increase in FPS even on old hardware!

For owners of powerful iron, you can also increase FPS quite well by overclocking the video card, I showed this in this video:

You have now maxed out the FPS in games on your PC!
