Beginning of the game

From the very beginning of the game, DK has little potential to harass the enemy. First, he can use his fire breath, which deals good magic damage. Secondly, having received the first form of the dragon, DK will be able to harass the enemy very effectively, since each attack will poison the enemy and cause periodic damage. You only need to strike occasionally and watch as the enemy constantly loses health. Until the DK got level 6 and he didn’t have at least the first form of a dragon, it’s very difficult for him to kill the enemy on the line, or rather, it’s almost impossible. This can only be done with the good support of allies. In fact, all the DK can do is stun and use fire breath, but this is clearly not enough to kill the enemy. Chasing the enemy will also fail, since without the dragon form, the DK has a melee attack, and the enemy in the mid lane needs to run very close to get into the safe zone. Thus, you should not risk it once again and try to kill the enemy before level 6. It is best to focus on farming and play more carefully. Note that in dragon form, the stun can be used up to 400 range and usually the enemy expects you to be able to stun them only at very close range. For example, you can use fire breath a couple of times, and then abruptly turn into a dragon and use a stun. Given that all of the DK's abilities are triggered almost instantly, the enemy is unlikely to be able to react quickly.

DK is a very good pusher, and he can break enemy towers even without the help of his allies. Solo line (center):

All the tips described above basically apply specifically to the center line. It makes no sense to describe other lanes, since DK will be less effective on them and it’s better to choose another hero. Farm is definitely in the first place. Until DK level 6, it is better to try to play as carefully as possible and try to last hit all the creeps. Of course, this is not easy to do, since DC is far from the most best farm hero. Starting from level 6 in the form of a dragon, you should already try to kill the enemy, or at least send him to the fountain for treatment. Also the dragon form must be used effectively to break the formation in the lane. Once you manage to take down the enemy tower in the mid lane, it's best to go help your allies in the other lanes rather than keep pushing the mid lane. DK does not have any mechanisms to quickly retreat, so staying in the mid lane without the support of your own tower is not worth it. Of course DC is not a good hero for ganking, as he simply lacks mobility, but he has very good control skills and good one-time damage. All this allows you to effectively kill enemies in other lanes if they did not notice your approach and you managed to get within a stun range of them. If successful, you will not only significantly help your allies, but you will also be able to push the enemy lane and break at least the first tower in the lane. It's best to try to gank lanes if you manage to pick up an invisibility rune or during night time when enemies have less line of sight.

For example, let's imagine the following situation: you are standing on the center line, and . For DC, such a match will be more or less comfortable. If you use fire breath very close to the enemy, then even with the help of the Phase Shift ability, it will be extremely difficult for Puck to dodge. He just won't be able to use it. Puck controls the runes much better, so it's better to ask your allies to also monitor the runes and periodically pick them up without giving Puck. You can just constantly use the courier in order to replenish the bottle and be able to constantly restore health and mana. Although the DK has an additional armor bonus, it will not save you from Puck's constant attacks, so it is worth staying at the maximum distance from him at all times and getting closer only to last hit a creep or use fire breath. You should not try to kill Puck before reaching level 6, as the enemy has good mobility and the ability to quickly leave the battle. It's better to just stand and only occasionally harass the enemy with fire. Even after reaching level 6, it is worth asking the help of your allies so that one of them pulls up to the central line and helps you kill Pak. It is best to start the attack with a stun, since Pak will definitely not dodge it. Then it is worth using fire breath while the enemy is stunned and only then start auto-attacking. If at the same time an ally joins your attack, then most likely you will kill Puck very quickly, since he has a very small supply of health. For even greater effectiveness, it is better to start the attack at night, since in this case your ally will be able to get as close as possible and remain in the fog of war, that is, he will not be seen by the enemy. Even if you fail to kill the enemy, you will force him to run away and you will have the opportunity to quickly break the first tower. In case of success, it is better to immediately move to one of the neighboring lanes or stay on your own and farm a little, and at the same time wait for the ult to roll back and your gank in this case will be more effective. As soon as BKB Pak appears in your arsenal, it will no longer be a threat to you and you will be able to effectively participate in all team battles.

Mid and end game:

DC is very strong hero at all stages of the game. Especially the potential of this hero is revealed at the moment when he starts buying key artifacts for damage and survivability. At the same time, DK becomes a very important hero in his team and he must take part in the life of his team, that is, participate in ganks under smoke, push lanes or help kill Roshan.

It should be understood that farming at all stages of the game is very important for the DK, since it is very dependent on items. If you go with your team, then these actions should be as effective as possible, that is, you break the tower or kill enemies. If there is no chance to kill the enemies, and it’s impossible to push the lane, then it’s better to immediately go farming, since procrastination in such a situation is very bad for the DK. Of course, you need to buy artifacts precisely for the current situation. For example, if you see that your survivability is enough and the enemies cannot kill you, then it is better to think about buying artifacts for damage, and not go deep into the tank’s DC without the need.

It is very important for the DK to get to level 16 as soon as possible, since at this level he has a 3rd dragon form. The ice dragon allows you to slow down enemies and this is one of the key moments of the DK. If other heroes only increase the damage and reduce the cooldown of the ult, then the DK gets a very good advantage. It should be understood that each key battle should take place in the form of a dragon, and if, for example, you just spent your ult and are reloading, then it is better to inform your allies about this and try to delay the time a bit and wait for the ult. With a good purchase, DK can really change the outcome of each battle and a protracted game is even beneficial for him. If your team starts actively pushing one of the lanes, then of course the DK should be in front of everyone and actively deal damage to the tower in the form of a dragon. Due to good armor and defense artifacts, in most cases, the DK can easily withstand several tower shots and at the same time spend a minimum amount of health. It also allows your ally to once again not approach the tower and not take risks. When it comes to split-pushing, DK won't be such a good hero for this tactic anymore. ELDER DRAGON FORM

Strengths

Persistence. Because of him passive ability Dragon Blood, its above average agility growth for a strength hero (4th max) and damage reduction caused by Breathe Fire. Gives him very powerful abilities and allows him to live for a very long time in battles and reduce damage to enemies.
AOE damage. Breathe Fire is a strong AOE nuke and Elder Dragon Form level 2+ that adds burst to his auto attack making him very strong against illusion heroes. Also allows you to clear large crepe camps very quickly.
Push. Davion is a great pusher for three reasons. 1) Dragon Elder level 1+ adds 100 magic damage over 5 seconds to his auto attack. 2) AOE damage allows him to quickly cut through waves. 3) His durability allows him to tank waves and towers so his allies can advance longer.

Since it costs a lot of mana and does little damage, its only purpose in a fight is to secure a kill or close a gank. The stun duration and damage are also slightly reduced, so an early point of value (usually level 4, 5, or 7) is appropriate and then you don't need to use the skill again until you have another skill.

DRAGON BLOOD

Dragon Blood makes it easy to charge physical damage and use Armlet of Mordiggian and Soul Ring. HP regeneration is permanent and will therefore restore you up to full health faster.

ELDER DRAGON FORM

As a general rule, you should use this skill whenever you can. Use your dragon form when played team fight, or you need to pick up ancient stacks of crepes. Sometimes you will use it to escape, as it provides +25 MS. AT late game save it for teamfights only, because you'll be of little use if you're forced to fight in knight form.

Some comments on attack modifiers provided by Elder Dragon Form:
corrosive breath. Applies a debuff to the target that deals 20 magic damage per second for 5 seconds. Successive attacks refresh the duration. Since he is magical, he is not reduced by armor, which is why Davion destroys buildings so quickly. You can also buy yourself a few seconds to walk away from the tower when it's low on HP and let the poison destroy it.
splash attack. Corrosive Breath is applied to all enemy units within a 300 burst radius. The sweeping attack does not affect structures, but enemy units can be damaged if the Davion attacks a structure.
Frost Breath. Reduces the movement and attack speed of all enemy units within the attack radius by 30% and 30 respectively. The skill breaks immunity, which allows Davion to kite heroes like Sven.


Talent Analysis

The talent lists selected at the top are situational, but ideal. See the win rates for each talent.

Level 10 The default talent is mana regen, unless you're against a very physical damage lane, in which case the extra damage reduction is an absurdly good choice. With the mana talent, Power Treads, Soul Ring and Raindrops, you can easily stay at full mana while spamming Breathe Fire to farm.

Level 15 Choose the HP talent only if the main target is a tank and the others provide enough damage. Getting the damage talent is one of the most powerful for Davion and a great opportunity to fight.

Level 20 The cadre talent of the Dragon is usually vastly superior to the GPM talent with a few notable exceptions: 1) the game will most likely be very long, 2) you don't tank, 3) your passive skill will get knocked down (e.g. Silver Edge, Nethertoxin), 4) your main concern - this is magic damage (in this case, you will need to buy anti-magic items).

Level 25 The power of the talent will increase your damage, HP, and magic resistance by a significant amount all at once. I would only recommend the stun talent if your team is desperate to block an agile opponent like Weaver , Puck , or Anti-Mage .


The starting items are typical, but against Zeus , Phantom Assassin , Timbersaw , Batrider , Brewmaster , or Bristleback , you may want to start with Magic Stick instead of Stout Shield. Even if your allies provide you with generic Tangos, in most games I would recommend buying more of them.

At the start of the game

At 15 minutes you should have the Armlet of Mordiggian. I agree with Purge that the Armlet is "the ultimate Dragon Knight item". At level 12 you should be able to deal over 200 damage with Armlet active, not to mention the extra armor. This gives you a huge advantage over other opponents in the early game. Dragon Blood mitigates the HP drain pretty much, and once you get the 2x Dragon Blood talent, your HP regen will actually exceed the HP drain and you can leave Armlet on by default.

The usefulness of the Armlet increases even more once you become efficient at "Armlet Switching". I highly recommend you practice this with bots until you feel comfortable with it. Skillful switching of the Armlet can make a hero like Davion incredibly hard to kill and lead to some star exits. However, if you are sure you don't like this item, I would recommend Drum of Endurance or Shadow Blade.

In a strategy game that I prefer, the most important element you can have is the Black King Bar. It's not essential in every game, but to keep things simple, I recommend it as a staple. I also recommend creating it before the mobility point for the simple reason that you don't need the mobility element to besiege towers. This will make the enemy turn on you.
