Connecting playstation move to computer. Help for PlayStation Move controllers. Escort through the mind

Introduction or a little history

Before we start talking about the new device, let's turn to the past. Not so, by the way, and distant: rewind just five years ago. Even a little less, because Nintendo released the Wii console in November 2006. And this weak game console turned the gaming world upside down. The Wii Remote controller (affectionately called Wiimote) allowed you to immerse yourself in the game much deeper than traditional gamepads. Immediately after the announcement, the Wii began to sell faster than any hot cakes. In the USA, for example, until the very end of 2009, the console had to be painfully searched for - it was not in stores, it was snapped up as soon as it had time to appear.

The PlayStation 3 will also be 5 years old this year.

Against the backdrop of the slowly gaining momentum of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the inherently primitive Wii looked much more interesting: it was cheaper and gave users a completely different feeling from the game. Naturally, Sony and Microsoft could not put up with this, so in 2010 they introduced their controllers, built on different principles, but united by one idea: to give the player the ability to move. Thus the system was born. Microsoft Kinect, formerly known as Project Natal, as well as the hero of today's review - the PlayStation Move controller.

The EyeToy camera is even older - it appeared in July 2003

In fact, events unfolded a little differently, and the development of what eventually became the PlayStation Move began back in 2001. From this project, a branch spun off, which brought earlier fruits: in 2003, the EyeToy controller appeared for the PlayStation 2 console, which was essentially just a webcam. The total sales of EyeToy around the world amounted to about 10 million copies, so the project can even be considered successful, but only 16 games were released for it in the first three years of its existence, and this is not at all a lot. There was a lack of accuracy - one webcam could not cope with recognizing all the player's movements and sometimes confused him with furniture. That's why the EyeToy somehow faded and almost disappeared from the headlines and from the store shelves after the release of the Wii. In 2001, Sony considered the EyeToy and Move (then already existing in the bowels of the laboratories in some original form) as some kind of fun and completely optional addition to the console. But the success of the Wii forced the company to change its mind and start creating commercial samples of the Move, refining and polishing everything possible.

In June 2009, the Move, not yet in its final form, was shown at the E3 conference, and a little over a year later it was officially announced and began to take its rightful place in stores and its market share. In the two months since the start of sales, Sony has delivered more than 4 million Move controllers, so the project clearly claims a bigger jackpot than EyeToy at one time. But enough about history, let's talk about ... no, not about practice - it's too early to talk about it. First, as expected, materiel.

PlayStation Move Video Review

⇡ What does it look like?

We will not talk about the PlayStation 3 itself, since it has already entered its fifth year, like the Wii. The release of the Slim version also did not change much. So let's go straight to PS Move. The easiest way to experience beauty is to purchase the PlayStation Move Starter Pack, which we got.

Our today's miracle of technology is delivered in a small colorful box. It contains the PlayStation Move controller itself, the Playstation Eye camera (virtually repeating the EyeToy) necessary for its operation, a disk with a video user manual and a short paper instruction. A USB → mini-USB cable is not included, although it will also be required for the console to recognize the paddle. It is believed that the owner of the PlayStation 3 already has a cable, because it was supposed to go to the player along with the console itself. Besides, it's not that rare.

Also, the PlayStation Move Motion controller (namely, the part that you will hold in your hands is called) can be purchased separately, although the camera is still required to play the game. Additionally, you can buy a PlayStation Move Navigation Controller, which can be useful in some games, and a PlayStation Move Shooting Attachment - the latter will come in handy in all kinds of shooting games.

In appearance, the PlayStation Move Motion most of all resembles a microphone: an oblong handle and a sphere at the end. On closer inspection, of course, it becomes clear that this is still a controller for the PlayStation. In place are the usual four buttons with geometric icons, and the PS key, no less familiar Start and Select on the sides. However, there are no analog sticks, no 8-way D-Pad, no shifters. But there are new buttons: the T trigger (on the bottom side of the device) - under the index finger - and the Move key (on the top side) - under the thumb.

At the bottom is a mini-USB port, which is used to charge the controller, as well as for "sniffing" between PS Move and PlayStation 3, which is necessary when you first connect the manipulator to the console. Nearby is also a connector for connecting the Move Navigation Controller - a sort of Nunchuck for PS Move. Once acquainted, the console and controller will remember each other. Each time you turn on the PlayStation 3, you only need to press the PS button on the controller so that it is given a serial number.

The game console or controller for it cannot be calculated to the smallest detail - otherwise they simply won’t be bought, so the PlayStation Move fits comfortably in the hand and weighs just enough so that it can be easily swung without feeling heavy. Wiimote, by the way, is much heavier - there, only a pair of AA batteries / accumulators weighs almost the same as the entire Move Motion.

For the same reasons, the sphere at the end of the manipulator is thoughtfully made of soft silicone. A lot of plastic Wii Remotes were smashed against the walls when swung too hard, and the silicone cases on the Wii controllers looked like... like... well, they didn't look good.

The PlayStation Eye camera was once sold separately, moreover, there are games that allow you to work with the camera without using Move. However, the PlayStation Eye is nothing supernatural: an ordinary webcam with SD resolution, an array of microphones and the ability to switch the lens between wide and narrow angles. Connects via USB.

⇡ How does it work?

Despite all the differences we've tried hard to point out, the PlayStation Move could feel like a copy of the Wii Remote. However, most controllers differ from each other precisely in the principle of operation. The Wii Remote has an accelerometer, a Bluetooth adapter, and an IR receiver on board. The movement of the manipulator is tracked by changing the readings of the accelerometer, and where the Wiimote is pointed is determined by data from the IR sensor that captures the light from the touch panel, which is installed above or below the TV. All data is transmitted to the set-top box via Bluetooth.

However, as practice has shown, such a scheme of work has one significant drawback - low positioning accuracy. Even Nintendo itself recognized this, three years after the release of the Wii, it launched the Wii MotionPlus accessory, which increased positioning accuracy. MotionPlus has one dual-axis gyroscope and one single-axis gyroscope.

They are so similar and yet so different at the same time.

In PlayStaion Move, everything is much more complicated. Inside the controller itself are a three-axis MEMS gyroscope, an accelerometer and a geomagnetic sensor (magnetometer). The first two allow you to track the movements of the manipulator, while the latter makes it possible to obtain information about the position of the player relative to the earth's axis, thereby correcting the accelerometer and gyroscope readings and determining the position of PS Move in space even more accurately.

But that's not all: as we already mentioned, the controller comes with a PlayStation Eye webcam with an array of four microphones. The camera itself monitors the movements of the player, allowing not only to use the controller itself in games, but also to use human movements. So, if you raise one hand while playing volleyball, the PlayStation will think that you are hitting the ball with a swing, and if you use both hands, then you are trying to gently pass the ball. The microphones can be used to communicate with other participants when playing online or for video conferencing. Moreover, in some games you will be required to, say, clap your hands in the right place. Where exactly you clap is determined by the difference in signal amplitude coming from all four microphones. Enough precision.

The camera performs another function. No wonder there is a sphere at the end of the controller that lights up in different colors when turned on. Such a sphere is very easy to track with a camera - you can’t confuse it with anything. Thus, the camera is also used to determine the movement of the controller along the vertical and along the transverse horizontal axis, and by resizing the image of the sphere when the controller is moved forward or backward, the camera allows you to track movements along the longitudinal horizontal axis.

Also in many games, the PlayStation Eye is used to create augmented reality: the camera captures what is happening in front of the TV and partially displays it on its screen, supplementing it with game elements.

Like the Wiimote, the PlayStation Move communicates with the console using the Bluetooth 2.0 radio channel. There is nothing to be surprised here, DualShock 3, and before it, Sixaxis worked on the same principle and at the same frequencies. In total, up to four PS Moves (or DualShock / Sixaxis) can be connected to one PS3 at the same time, while the spheres at the ends of each of them will glow in a different color.

Just in case, we dismantled the controller in the hope of seeing inside the key to its popularity. But nothing supernatural was found there: most of the case is occupied by a printed circuit board and an impressive lithium-ion battery. The exact same one is used in the DualShock 3 gamepad - for people who are familiar with the latter firsthand, this immediately indicates that the PlayStation Move will last quite a long time on a single charge. In the lower part there is a motor responsible for vibration feedback. We did not dare to climb deeper - we were afraid for the safety of thin flat cables connecting the buttons on the upper half of the controller to the board. So we propose to move on to why all this, in fact, is needed - to games. For total immersion, we used a 46-inch Sony Bravia NX7 TV.

⇡ Games: jump and wave

Sports Festival

This is a kind of base game, or rather a set of games that allow you to better get used to Move. This set includes archery, volleyball, table tennis (system administrators, they say, prefer the name ping-pong), disc golf, gladiator fights and bocce. One or two people can play at the same time, and each is allowed to hold one Move Motion, and, in some games, as many as two. Of the entire set, in our opinion, gladiatorial fights, volleyball and ping-pong are of the greatest interest.

The first sport allows you to appreciate why a controller is needed at all. And he needs to dive. You have more than a dozen motley characters at your disposal: choose one and go. If you have only one controller in your hands, then it performs the function of a sword, and if you hold the trigger, it switches to a shield. If you got two controllers, then one is responsible for the shield, the other for the sword. The game will carefully ask you if you are right-handed or left-handed, and will give you the right weapon in the appropriate hand.

What is the essence of the game? The enemy must be r-r-cut. And with all the dope: the stronger the swing, the more game health the blow will take away from the enemy. But the opponents are also not bast shields - most of the time they are covered with a shield, and at high difficulty levels, strikes are delivered exactly where you are least likely to have time to close. Naturally, all sorts of super blows are provided - in order to carry out such a technique, you will need to perform a series of strokes in the directions indicated on the screen. The main thing is to honestly observe the precautions and remove unnecessary objects and unnecessary people away. Otherwise, the former run the risk of falling, the latter - getting hit on the ear, and you yourself can hurt yourself, swinging for a fatal blow.

Volleyball is good because it makes you move actively and repeat quite classic movements for volleyball: bottom serve, top pass pass, “gasses” with a jump over the net, and the like. True, you don’t need to jump - just raise your hands sharply. If one person plays, then he will be provided with a completely sensible teammate - you won’t have to complain about him. Two, of course, more fun.

Table tennis clearly demonstrates how much more accurate the PlayStation Move works compared to the same Wii Remote. The racket, that is, the controller, must be rotated - the spin of the ball depends on this. "Twisted" behave according to all the laws of physics, bouncing off the table is not in the same plane in which they flew up to it. You will be bored only at the first levels, then opponents will set you in the heat. If you remember tennis on the Wii, then it was enough just to somehow wave the racket at the right time. Here you have to watch where you hit.

This is not to say that "Celebration of Sports" is an exciting game that absorbs you with your head. But as a periodic warm-up, it is great.

office kung fu

A magical game, somewhat reminiscent of the good old platformers. The main task is to roll as fast as possible in an office chair on wheels along the roads, dodging the attacks of evil bandits in formal suits, and, if possible, giving them a good kick at the same time. On the road, of course, money and other bonuses are lying around, and the chair can be accelerated, used as a battering ram, and so on.

It would be fun without Move, but the game does not offer such an opportunity and does not work without a controller. But with Move it turns out just some kind of celebration of life. To jump, you need to lift the controller up, movements to the left and right accelerate the chair faster, and you can ram the enemy by pointing the manipulator to the center of the screen and expressively poking it in that direction. The buttons on the controller are also used, but only two are vital - the T trigger is responsible for squatting, and the PS key is for kicking an unsuccessfully turned up box or a lingering villain.

A two-player game mode is available - in this case, one player gets a bespectacled loser, and the second one gets a fragile Asian girl with a bust of the fifth size. AT single player you can choose a character for yourself - naturally, we liked the girl much more. After passing each of the short levels, the system calculates the points scored and gives the overall result. To get to the next level, it's not enough just to drive to the end of the previous one - you need to get a certain number of points, which you can earn by riding fast, collecting more money, writing out especially beautiful pirouettes and making combos. To increase the fun, in addition to the calculated points, the screen displays the happy face of the player himself, who was carried away by trying to drive the next stage on a faithful six-wheeled friend. The faces are simply wonderful - during the game, people rarely pay much attention to the control of facial expressions. We launched "Office Kung Fu" only in the evenings, otherwise the work got up tightly in the entire editorial office. Recommended.

Surprisingly, there are also puzzles for Move. Of course, you can play Create without this manipulator, but it's somehow more interesting with it. Create is the creation of a world in which then it will be necessary to solve all sorts of tasks, most often not very difficult, but funny. First, with the help of Move, you need to poke flowers, dinosaurs and paint the sky well so that the world seems more interesting to you, and most importantly, closer and dearer. Then you can proceed to the actual puzzles.

With each new world, the puzzles naturally become more difficult. On the early stages it is enough just to drive, say, a balloon with a load into the ring with the help of a fan or build a bridge so that the car can move over the abyss. Using Move, you can select objects from the toolbox, which, most often, are available in several types. For example, the car can be driven in blocks, or you can add hinges and curbs there. Where to place the object - the player chooses by moving the controller in space, and to rotate, say, a fan or the same block, you need to hold down the T button and rotate the controller around its own axis.

The game may seem boring at first, but you have to force yourself to go through several levels, because with each new level, new objects are added to the toolbox. The fun begins when you realize that the level can be completed simply, or beautifully. So, it is easy to drive a car through a burning wheel with the help of a springboard alone, while it is much more interesting to make it fly through the air, bounce from pyrotechnics and perform all sorts of tricks. The more flips over the wing the car makes, the more points you get for the level. And this is where the brain begins to work, in which more and more cunning paths and labyrinths are born for an innocent machine. Developers from EA say that the player's actions are limited only by his imagination, but to keep the latter from running wild, the number of available objects at each level is also limited. Let's say there is an opportunity to create a "track" of 10 or less things, and there will be air balloons and cannons or springboards and wheels - the player decides. With Move, the game does not even acquire additional interest, but a certain sense of greater involvement in what is happening. Also fun and addictive.

Eye Pet Move Edition

It was possible to take care of a funny and slightly stupid animal, somewhat reminiscent of a monkey, back in the days of the PlayStation 2. The appearance of a more powerful PlayStation 3 and Move only allowed the game to be transferred to Full HD screens and add new tasks to it. Eye Pet is intended (not to be confused with the iPad - it sounds almost the same) for those who, for one reason or another, cannot get a cat, dog or pet monkey, but would really, really want to. The essence of the action is to love, feed and entertain a virtual animal, which, for its part, also undertakes to fulfill at least the first point. A kind of Tamagotchi. The difference is in how exactly you have to participate in the process of growth and development of the pet (this is exactly how your monkey is called in Russian translation). If the Tamagotchi had four buttons, then here ...

To begin with, you will be asked to put the camera at knee level and point it to the floor - this is where you will communicate with your little animal. Get comfortable and let's get started. The pet will have to go with you all the way of evolution - from birth (for some reason, the monkey will hatch from the egg) to a kind of perfection. The road to excellence is long and difficult, and most importantly, it consists entirely of tasks. The latter are very different. The simple ones include, for example, a typical cat game “run after my fingers”: you move your hand across the carpet, not forgetting to rustle expressively, and the pet chases after it. Difficult - teaching your beloved monkey to drive and fly a toy airplane. All this happens right on your floor, well, or a little above it, and for each task they can give a medal - from bronze to gold. The game part comes down to collecting the maximum number of gold medals. At the same time, between tasks, you need to carefully scan the pet with a special scanner, the role of which is precisely performed by the Move Motion controller - this will give you the knowledge of whether the monkey urgently needs to be fed or bathed.

On the one hand, the game demonstrates the possibilities of augmented reality from a favorable angle, and on the other hand, it sometimes looks very boring. In addition, there are often not enough swear words for your favorite animal: they scratched it a little in the wrong place - and that’s it, you’ll be content with bronze instead of the coveted gold, because the animal does not always respond to your scratching - the accuracy of the camera alone is not enough. The game can be prescribed as a medicine for people who have been diagnosed with an "acute shortage of domestic animals." Others can get bored quickly.

Start the Party! (Light it up!)

This set of mini-games is a classic type of family activity involving preschool and toddlers. school age as well as their parents. The games in Start the Party are very diverse, from haircutting teenage punks for speed to saving abstract men from cartoon Godzilla or stuffing chaotically falling chicks into nests (remember nice game"Electronics: well, wait a minute"?).

All games are extremely simple, so to speak, gameplay - in each you need to do only one action. In the mini-game "Stylist" - cut, if you signed up to exterminate bugs - you need to exterminate bugs, you are going to shoot continuously advancing robots - aim and shoot. Each mini-game has three levels of difficulty, most often an increase in it leads to the fact that the game simply speeds up: uncut punks begin to replace each other on the screen almost every second, and the chicks rain down like hail - just have time to substitute the fan and blow them off at the right time nest.

Start the Party also actively uses the capabilities of the webcam: all the action takes place in your room. The implementation of augmented reality deserves praise, however, the feeling of exterminating herds and flocks of various beetles in your own house is far from always pleasant. Another fly in the ointment is the unimportant quality of the image that the camera captures. On a Full HD TV, the extrapolated SD picture looks strange, and the noise that the camera matrix generates even in normal lighting hurts the eyes a little. In Start the Party, this, however, does not really interfere - all the mini-games are very dynamic, and you practically do not have time to pay attention to the quality of the picture.

For adults, the game will definitely be boring, but young children will most likely like it: it is easy to manage, and the level of immersion in a simple arcade game is always very high - thanks to the camera. Parents and older children Start the Party! can attract a great voice-over. When you accidentally crushed some loser chick with your fan, the host announces in a voice full of tragedy: “In the cabbage!”. The mood, at least, raises for sure.

Killzone 3

We really didn’t manage to play the third part of the legendary Killzone - the controls in the game are complicated, the Move Navigation Controller is required. However, we were surprised to find out that it can be replaced by a regular wireless Dualshock 3. It just has the missing keys, like the same 8-way D-pad, so a combination of Move Motion and Dualshock 3 can serve as a controller for passing Killzone 3.

Another thing is that it is completely impossible to hold the Dualshock with one hand, especially when the second one needs to actively gesticulate. Therefore, we divided duties: one of us held the DualShock in his hands and was responsible for walking, crouching and using objects, and the second brandished Move Motion and watched where our infantryman was looking and what he was shooting. There are a lot of impressions, but more and more indescribable. Although, you can try on occasion to ride a race track on a regular bike, putting two people on it: one pedals, the second handles. That's about the same feeling we experienced all the time when we tried to control the character from Killzone.

By the way, aiming with Move Motion is much more pleasant than using DualShock for this. But for shooters, to which Killzone belongs, we strongly recommend purchasing, for example, the PlayStation Move Automatic and Navigation Controller. Feelings will be first-class - even on the Wii with her Zapper tested.

Enough about the games - it's time to take stock.

⇡ Do we need it?

If you have at least a few hours a week that you are willing to spend on video games, then yes, you should. And if you are already a happy owner of the Sony PlayStation 3, then you just definitely need to. PlayStation Move diversifies the experience of games, allows you to dive deeper into what is happening and take part in it most actively. And most importantly, increases the "high" from the game.

In addition, fans of ordinary video games with a gamepad often and imperceptibly grow decent-sized bellies - long gatherings in front of the TV are very conducive to this. PS Move helps shake things up - believe me, a couple of hours of fighting in the Colosseum: and an untrained hand will hurt all the next day. This is an occasion to transfer the controller to the other hand and practice your skills with, say, a racket - and your hands will become stronger, and you will not be bored.

The controller itself, as we have already said, costs about 1,500 rubles, for the Starter Pack, which consists of Move Motion, the PS Eye camera and a training disc, you will have to pay 2,500, and the set-top box along with the Move will cost about 15,000. in this regard, the price is almost the same, but the Wii itself, of course, is cheaper - less than 10,000. Prices for games for PS Move start at 1,000 rubles and end at around 5,500 rubles - the collectible Killzone 3 Helgast Edition costs so much. Not cheap: the starting price of Wii games is about 600 rubles. True, the average price is the same as for the Move. In total, at the time of writing, there are more than 20 games that officially support the controller.

Advantages:

  • High positioning accuracy;
  • Excellent ergonomics;
  • Immersion in the game;
  • The opportunity to stretch;
  • Low price of the PlayStation Move Starter Pack.

Flaws:

  • Relatively high price of the Sony PlayStation 3 + Move bundle;
  • Need to purchase PS Move Navigation Controller for some games;
  • The high price of games for the Sony PlayStation 3;
  • Low resolution and high noise of the PlayStation Eye camera.

We thank the Russian representative office of Sony for providing the Bravia NX7 46 TV.

In the article, I have already described the Playstation approach to the new controller: the company has high hopes for its invention, comparative attention is probably paid only to 3D technology. Of course, the ideal option is a game using all the developments of Sony: games using PS Move on a TV that supports stereo 3D picture.

Starter pack

In order to start playing games that use the capabilities of the motion controller, you need to buy the PS Move Starter Pack, Sony has invested the necessary minimum in this kit:

  • Playstation Move Controller
  • Wrist strap
  • Playstation Eye Camera
  • Blu-ray disc with demos:
    • video tutorial "Installing and configuring PS Move"
    • demo version of the game Holiday of Sports (RUS),
    • demo version of the game Fire it up! (RUS),
    • demo version of the game Shot! (RUS),
    • demo version of the game EyePet: Move Edition (RUS),
    • demo version of the game TV Show Stars (RUS),
    • demo version of Tiger Woods PGA TOUR ® 11 (English only),
    • demo version of the game echochrome ii (PSN title),
    • demo version of the game Tumble (PSN title),
    • Beat Sketchers demo (PSN title)

Design, controls

The design of the Move has a lot in common with the standard Playstation3 joystick, the Dual Shock3. The same forms, the same buttons and elements. Plastic is also familiar - matte, rough. "Foreign" here is only the ball on top. Actually, this ball is the most important element, it is its movements that the PS Eye camera will track. For clarity, the color of the ball will change during the game: the simplest example is highlighting one Move in blue and red in the second while two players are playing with each other.

All the standard PS3 buttons are there: the round PS button to turn on and adjust the joystick, the trigger (or trigger) is the T button; in the center is the Move button (along with T, this is one of the most used keys in controlling the controller), standard keys with symbols are located around it. The company decided to abandon the usual arrangement, four buttons are scattered differently: on the right is a triangle, below it is a circle, and on the top left is a square, below is a cross. The buttons have decreased in size, their travel has also been reduced. On the sides are the keys, Start - on the right, on the opposite side - Select.

At the bottom there is a mini-USB port for charging, as well as a port marked as Ext - for connecting accessories. There is also an eyelet for attaching a strap. The battery, like the rest of the controllers, built-in. I would like to note that the kit does not come with a mini-USB cable for charging - you will have to use one from the DS3 joystick or purchase a separate charging station (more on that later).

Dimensions, ease of use

You can compare sizes with the photos provided. It feels like the size of the Move, if not perfect, is close to it. If you wrap your palm around the controller, the index finger lies exactly on the trigger with reverse side, the thumb freely reaches all the buttons with symbols. In my case, the ergonomics and length of the Move are just right for my hand size.

It is convenient to play, I did not notice any features and unpleasant moments. Of course, given the active nature of the games, at first you will get tired of constantly swinging. But over time you'll get used to it.

Just a couple of words about the Playstation Eye camera. The PS3 branded camera has a wire (about 1.5 m long), the body is completely plastic, in the upper part there is a massive microphone covered with a metal mesh. Below the microphone are two sensors, even below - the lens. The lens rim is adjustable: two positions are available, their use is explained separately in each of the games you will be playing. True, more often the camera will be in a "wide" state, that is, the mode marked with a blue circle is activated. The tilt of the camera is adjustable - this is necessary for the possibility of installing the camera both on the TV and under it.

As a reminder, the camera can be used not only in conjunction with PS Move, but also separately: for example, for video chats, the ability to record clips in the Singstar game series, transfer your physiognomy to other games is also remembered

Games

All games supported by Move can be divided into the following categories:

  • Casual games. It's fun for the whole family, and above all, the controller's ability to accurately convey movements is used here. Most often these are sports projects or entertaining games for several players - for fun in the company.
  • Games that would have been released without PS Move, but the ability to control with the new controller makes such projects more fun, the control process tries to be as similar to real action as possible.

And another strong point in the popularization of both Playstation3 as a gaming platform and Move as a new (for this console) type of control: additional features in hits. For this type of game, a patch is being released that adds support for PS Move. Often in the game, in addition to controller support, new levels or characters are added - in a word, such an addition will be a good reason to play an already completed game once again.

Another division of games that will need to be played using PS Move is the ability to play simultaneously and the need to transfer the controller to each other.

Most games that support Move but are not available on the demo disc can be tried out by downloading the trial version from the PS Store.

Back in the summer, at the Afisha Picnic, an early version of the Move was demonstrated: then gamers were introduced to the basic capabilities of the controller. I bring to your attention a few photos of those days, in addition to this, I recorded several videos with the gameplay.

Sports Champions are gladiator fights. This game will be included in the collection sports games, published in Russia under the name Sports Holiday. Sports Champions is essentially a fighting game, and mainly because of its genre, it appealed more to male gamers. In the game, you need to swing the controller, trying to at least approximately repeat the movements laid down in the game. The game is absolutely arcade, so the main task is to wave your hands faster, then you will win. How to play gladiator fights can be understood from the video below.

The second game is less brutal, but almost as fun. For a game of "Light it up!" more often it was possible to observe small children with their parents.

Up to four players can participate in the game. Before the start of the round, everyone is photographed, the resulting photo is “glued” to one of the characters. In the process, each of the participants, after their attempt, passes the controller to the other players, and at the end of the round, achievements are compared. While playing, we observe our image on the screen, we see what object is in our hands. Depending on the type of game, it can be a racket, clipper, bat and other items. The process of playing "Light it up!" was also caught on camera, see it below in the video.

The following photos and video frames are from another event where you could evaluate the combination of the Move controller and the ability to display stereo-3D images on Bravia TVs.

Tumble- collective game, in which several players take turns building a tower. To do this, players have various materials at their disposal: boards, sticky balls, and so on. The main task is to put, stick or lean as many of your items as possible and prevent the opponent from doing the same, who in turn will have exactly the same task. The level will also contain moving elements that will interfere with your success, they are able to overturn the building. The controller here is used as a manipulator. That is, having captured an object, you must act as carefully as possible and place all objects literally with your own hand. In Tumble, the "immersion" and interest from playing with special glasses is especially noticeable.

The next game in the original is called The Fight ("Fight" in the Russian version). You can only play alone, the opponent is controlled by the computer. At the very beginning, your identification takes place (almost every game that uses the camera and Move needs to be adjusted “for yourself”): your size, arm length, and physique are determined. As the name implies, the main task is to swing your fists with the Move controllers clamped in them. In this case, the view will be “from the eyes”, your character moves independently, and you will need to imitate blows: perform hooks, jabs and punches. After each round, you will be given information about the fight, as well as tell you how many calories you burned during the fight. It is quite interesting to play, although, in my opinion, the process is somewhat monotonous and quickly gets boring.

An example of one of the fights from the event, see below:

In addition, we managed to look at the Move version of the game heavy rain. Those who have already played this game will probably think that with the help of Move it will be easier and more interesting to play. I don’t know about interest, the demonstrated version was shown for a short time, but that’s what you have to relearn - that’s for sure. By myself, I’ll say that it was easier to get used to the control from the joystick at one time. However, I admit that during the game, as you get used to it, everything will go like clockwork. In any case, buying a PS Move is a great excuse to get Heavy Rain off the shelf and play the game again, this time doing everything differently, and, accordingly, to see a different ending to the story.

Finally, a couple more shots of the Start the Party game (“Light it up!”), As well as an additional video with the gameplay.

Games that are already on sale, or will appear on sale in the very near future (the recommended price of the game is 1,700 rubles): “Sports Festival”, “Light it up”, “Fight”, “Cut”, “TV Show Stars”, “Office Kung- Ugh".

Many of the previously released games will get a (paid, in some cases free) add-on that will add support for Move. Among these games: resident evil 5, Eyepet, Heavy Rain, little big Planet, R.U.S.E. The list is incomplete, in total by March 2011 it is planned to release up to 40 games with support for the new controller.

Kits, additional controllers

First of all, I would like to mention a set consisting of a console (320 GB hard drive) and a PS Move Starter pack. This is an option for those who have finally decided to get a set-top box - they will immediately be able to enjoy the capabilities of the new controller.

If during the game it is necessary to transfer the controller, as happens in Start the party, then there are no problems: depending on the number of people gathered in front of the TV, everyone plays in turn.

But if you want to play against a friend, then in most games you will need a second controller. Moreover, in some games it is assumed that each of the players will have two controllers at the same time.

For a while, the controller was sold only as part of the Starter Pack, but in early November, it became possible to purchase just PS Move, without a camera and a demo disk. Separately, the controller costs 1,600 rubles.

In addition, you can buy a navigation controller, you could see its description in the video at the beginning of the article.

The navigation controller is slightly smaller than the Move. There is a PS button on the case for power on and settings. In the center are the arrow keys or cursors, a little higher - two buttons with symbols: on the right - a circle button, on the left - a cross. Above is an analog fungus. Under the index finger lies the trigger L2, above it there is also L1. At the bottom there is a mini-USB port for charging, even lower - an eyelet for attaching the strap, however, in this case, the strap will have to be purchased separately.

To be honest, I was a bit hasty, buying exactly the navigation controller, it costs 1,400 rubles. The fact is that this solution is used in a limited number of games (I hope only for now), and the fullness of sensations can be experienced only after the release of Killzone3 and SOCOM4 (we publish under the name "Spetsnaz"). As a result, I would advise you to buy an additional Move.

As promised in the Russian representative office of the Playstation, a little later, various PS Move kits will appear on sale, which will include a different number of controllers - for a variety of possible games.

Accessories

The navigation controller, probably, could also be designated as an accessory, but in this case, in this subsection, I decided to remove all products that are not required and do not carry any additional features and are designed to increase comfort.

For starters, charging. An official docking station that can hold either two Move controllers or one Move and place a navigation controller next to it to charge. In light of the lack of charging cables, such an accessory can be a very useful thing in the household. Third-party developers also offer charging for 4 joysticks at the same time.

Next comes a special pistol. Move is placed in it, and the game of shooters becomes the most natural. But do not forget that with such a pistol only aiming on the screen will occur, if the game also provides for movement, it will need to be done from an additional controller. Although, there are examples of games - Time Crisis - where you will only need to "shoot with all guns", moving through the level occurs automatically.

In addition, on sale you can find silicone cases for the Move and the navigation controller. There are 3 colors: red, black and blue.

conclusions

As I already wrote, Playstation has high hopes for both 3D technology in its technology and for the Move controller. Moreover, we can already say that, at least, the start of sales of the controller turned out to be quite successful: in Europe and America, the total sales figures amounted to 4.1 million units (excluding separately sold controllers). During the year from the start of sales, it is planned to sell up to 15 million controllers in retail. In our country, over the past month since the start of sales, the Move Starter Pack has sold 30,000 copies, which is a very good result. It remains to be hoped that the set pace will not subside, and Sony, as well as third-party developers, will not let us down with the release of new games.

No matter how trite it may sound, the past year in the video game industry turned out to be extremely unusual. The fact is that at the beginning of 2010, the majority was waiting for the next change of generations of consoles, which, as a rule, happens once every four years. It would seem that the developers squeezed everything out of the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii - it's time for Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo to announce successors to their consoles.

However, at the summer exhibition E3, two of the three major companies set their priorities - there will be no new generation of consoles yet, their capacities are enough for developers to create the most modern games. In truth, most developers only supported this approach - for example, the creator of Gran Turismo 5, Kazunori Yamauchi, said that their project uses only 80% of the capabilities of the PlayStation 3.

However, they still didn’t leave us without a “fresh one” - almost simultaneously Microsoft and Sony presented their own developments for their consoles. (then called Project Natal) for the Xbox 360 and for the PlayStation 3. Both were wireless controllers meant to compete with Nintendo's trump card, the Wii Remote motion controller, which has been bundled with the Wii console since 2006. Having snatched off a solid market share of the so-called "casual" games, Nintendo until recently felt very at ease and was certainly most surprised by the announcements of Kinect and Move.

After a series of mutual "pricks" and reflections about what will be "cooler", Kinect or Move, Microsoft and Sony announced the date of the sale of their new devices. As you might guess, the choice fell on autumn, when the target audience returns from holidays and vacations, and also makes purchases before Christmas. Sony started early - as if remembering the PlayStation 3 was a year late, which allowed the Xbox 360 to feel at ease for 365 days - the Japanese began selling the Move in Europe on September 16th. Microsoft took a little longer - the first copies of Kinect went to stores only on November 4th.

Before jumping into a closer look at one of these touch controllers, let's take a quick look at the main differences between Kinect and Move. Surely many of our esteemed readers almost identify these devices, which are actually seriously different. So, in fact, it turns out that it is Move that is closer to the Wii Remote - in fact, the same “flying stick” with a motion sensor. The PlayStation Move comes with a small PlayStation Eye camera that also contains an array of four microphones. Moves cost an average of $50.

Microsoft Kinect is just a peripheral device that connects to Xbox console 360 - when using it, you do not need to hold anything in your hands, and navigation and control takes place through gestures. Kinect is an elongated "box" located on a stand - three "eyes" - depth sensors "follow" the player, and a microphone array of four microphones located on the sides is used to capture voice. The cost of Kinect is three times higher than the PlayStation Move - on average, this controller can be purchased for $150.

They are greeted by clothes ...

Well, let's start a careful study of the PlayStation Move - what it is, what they eat with and what sensations you should expect from it. To avoid possible confusion, it is worth saying that we ended up with a kit called Move Motion, which includes the Move itself and the PlayStation Eye camera.

Sony is also currently offering other Move options, including the Move Navigation Remote and the Move Shooting Pistol. In addition, owners of bundles consisting of PlayStation Move, Move Navigation and the PlayStation Eye camera (naturally, such special offers have an attractive price) can optionally purchase a charging pad for the first two controllers. However, all these extensions are exclusively for amateurs - by refusing, say, such a platform, you can safely charge Move and Navigation using a miniUSB cable.

In addition to the Move controller, the PlayStation Eye camera and miniUSB cables for them, the Starter Pack includes a CD with demo versions of games “sharpened” for Move, as well as various documentation (Russian, of course, is present). Externally, the Move controller resembles a remote control for a TV, except that the brainchild of Sony has a rounded shape, providing an ideal position for the device in the hand. By the way, the Move is identical in size to the Wii Remote - only the luminous tip goes beyond.

To prevent the Move from accidentally slipping out of your hand, a special strap is attached to it, which is tightened around your wrist before a game session - the strap eyelet is located on the opposite side of the rubber ball, next to the expansion connectors and miniUSB. Like a regular PlayStation 3 gamepad, the Move controller is wireless, but it uses a miniUSB cable to charge it.

The key component of the Move controller is, of course, the rubber ball at the end. During the game, it shimmers with all the colors of the rainbow, transmits all the movements made to the Eye camera and even information about the force with which the player moves the controller. The black matte plastic of which the Move is made is pleasant to the touch. It is worth noting that the oblong Move lies well in the hand, and it does not matter who uses it - right-handed or left-handed. The undoubted pluses of Move should also include its weight - it is only 145 grams (Wii Remote weighs 255 grams).

On the visible part of the controller there is a row of keys - four of them are familiar ("cross", "diamond", "triangle", "circle"), the PS Home key allows you to return to the main menu of the console at any time, in the middle there is a specific Move button.

On the back side there is an analog lever. On the same side as the analog lever, there is a Reset button - it's hard to notice, though, since it is recessed into the case and thus prevents accidental pressing.

Along the edges are the Select and Start buttons.

The PlayStation Eye camera, as mentioned above, is small in size - it connects to the console via a USB connector. In fact, there is nothing unusual in this webcam (120 frames / sec) - it has two viewing angles (wide and normal), a microphone is located above the lens.

The camera is installed on the TV using a rubberized stand or simply “clings” to its edge. In some games, however, the PlayStation Eye has to be installed a little lower - almost under the TV. True, this happened only once - the creators of the EyePet Move Edition deliberately took such a step, since it was he who made it possible to comfortably sit on the floor with a virtual pet. The only drawback of the Eye camera is that it is not very securely attached to the TV and constantly strives to fall from there. When calibrating, it does not take too long to set it up, but for its stable position, you will have to show a lot of patience.

Move your body!

At the time the Move appeared on sale, two dozen developers expressed their desire to create games with the support of this controller. At the moment, there are many more of them, and almost every week you hear that new projects will try not to ignore the owners of the innovative controller. The CD included with Move Motion contains nine game demos: Sports Champions, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, EyePet Move Edition, Beat Sketcher, Tumble, Echochrome II, The Shoot, TV Superstars, Start The Party. After connecting the camera and turning on Move, you just need to select the game of interest and install it on the console's hard drive (for some reason, installation is required - although the same Gran Turismo 5 is "played" directly from the disc).

Another interesting feature is that the calibration process is carried out before each game. It takes no more than half a minute, so you can’t call the calibration too annoying.

For example, let's talk about a couple of games from the Move launch lineup, which we managed to study very carefully. The first of these is clearly a family arcade called Start The Party.

In fact, it is a collection of arcade games that invites players to move their bodies properly. Of course, before you start playing, you should make sure that there is free space in front of the TV - there is not much space, but still make sure that waving your arms around your body will not lead to broken objects and "hitting" your loved ones.

Ready? Then let's get started - you can choose to draw figures with a brush (a ticking timer is attached) or shoot down insects flying by with a racket. It quickly turns out that both entertainments serve as perfect morning exercises - when drawing, you often have to “stretch” in an attempt to draw the perfect figure, and when reprisals against flying insects, a quick reaction is useful.

As for the sensations, they are quite comparable to those we experience when using the Wii Remote. Move is really easier, but you have to make “body movements” by no means less. If you don't believe me, check out Sports Champions, the demo version of which invites you to throw a long flying saucer and play a few rounds of table tennis. After several games, even in a cool room, you want to take off your jumper and move around in just a T-shirt.

How accurate is the Move controller? It is impossible to answer this question unequivocally with all desire. In some games, there is a complete merger with what is happening on the screen - the controller is sensitive to all turns, movements and swings. However, cases of “misunderstanding” are also not uncommon, during which it is difficult to even “hit” with the cursor on any item in the menu.

Of course, in most games there is an alternative navigation using the usual PlayStation 3 keys. But why is Move sometimes not so “understandable”? The answer lies in a number of factors, including the close distance of the player to the camera - it is better not to get closer than two meters to it, as errors in reading movements begin to affect. Another enemy of the Move is sometimes light - the lack of lighting sometimes does not have the best effect on the operation of the device. Finally, problems can arise if the calibration is bad or the player changes the starting position.

However, in general, the experience of using the Move is extremely pleasant. In some games, vibration is connected as another new sensation, which immediately fills the player with excitement. Once you get used to it, you yourself will not notice that you will work with the controller much more boldly - make more sharp movements, make “cutters” in table tennis, and how to stretch into a “string”. As a rule, in games with Move support, only two keys are used - Move in the middle and an analog stick. It remains to be said that the charge of the Move controller (battery capacity - 1360 mAh) is enough for about the same time as a regular PlayStation 3 gamepad - even with the active use of the touch controller, it only needs to be charged a couple of times a week.

Escort through the mind

With its main task - to provide a new experience from video games - the PlayStation Move controller, without a doubt, copes. However, how successful will such competition with the proposals of Microsoft and Nintendo be? Let's figure it out. The much more expensive Kinect encourages players to forego the “broom stick” and perform all actions with gestures. In addition, Kinect, like Move, has a microphone array that allows you to control the console with your voice.

However, it is still difficult to talk about any advantage - Kinect recognizes voice commands with great difficulty, and it “understands” so far only in two languages - in English and Japanese. Nintendo, which the two giants most unceremoniously pushed out of the casual market, seems to be in the most distress - this is even evidenced by sales of the Wii console, which in recent times fell heavily. Noticeably inferior to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 graphics, a heavier Wii Remote controller - it is not surprising that recently the president of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, has been increasingly talking about the successor to the Wii, which is rumored to be introduced next year.

However, do not rush to hasty conclusions - the Wii still has "gunpowder in the powder flasks". Firstly, the console, together with its controller, has a record low cost, easily bypassing the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in this indicator. number of great projects. Finally, let's not forget about the fans of Nintendo products, who do not miss a single portable console from this company, and also remember that it was thanks to it that the legendary Mario was born.

Returning to Move, we note that this controller has a future. At the moment, Sony is in talks with a large number of developers regarding the support of this device in their projects. Moreover, the Japanese are well aware that the Move features should attract not only a new audience, but also old game fans who probably still have PlayStation One and PlayStation 2 on their shelves. To do this, Sony regularly releases re-releases of old games with Move support - a recent example. to that - Heavy Rain, the authors of which at one time refused to release additional content for this game in favor of a special version of the adventure game for the new controller. Many PlayStation 3 exclusives have not been left out, including the puzzle game LittleBigPlanet 2 and even the action game Killzone 3.

Of course, not all developers are so far enthusiastic about the Move - the authors of most shooters have little doubt that this device is of little use for this genre of games. John Carmack of id Software and Ken Levine of Irrational Games unanimously say that Move is just for casual players and family "gatherings" (some games can be played with several Moves). It’s easy to agree with them, since it’s quite difficult to imagine the many hours of playing the same Rage or BioShock with the help of “an oblong piece of plastic with a clown ball at the end” - after an hour of active shooting and digging in the hero’s inventory, the player will feel like a squeezed lemon. However, this will allow him to at least roughly imagine what kind of load the hero of the game experiences, which he controls.

However, even the most old-school gamers will admit that the PlayStation Move is the original Sony device that brings a lot of new gaming experiences and successfully copes with the shortage of, say, light guns in the market. Who owns the idea of such a gadget - Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft - is pointless to argue. Much more important is the fact that now we all have a choice - what and with what to play. PlayStation Move, let's say - not the worst option to pass the free time. Moreover, a great choice for big company, which plays video games only from time to time. The so-called "hardcore players", alas for Sony, are still not conquered - for them, Move, most likely, will seem only a curious toy for a while.

PlayStation Move motion controllers allow you to realize the potential of controlling the PS4 system through motion and physical interaction in games. Some games use the PlayStation Move motion controllers in conjunction with the PlayStation Camera.

Setting up PlayStation Move motion controllers

The PlayStation Move motion controller and navigation controller are very easy to register to your system.

Start with a PlayStation Move (PS Move) motion controller and a mini-USB cable like the one used to charge PS3 accessories. The PS4 system comes with a micro-USB USB cable and is not compatible with a motion controller or navigation controller.

To set up a PS Move motion controller for use with your PS4 system, follow these steps:

  1. Connect the mini-USB cable to the motion controller, then plug the other end of the cable into one of the two USB connectors on the front of the PS4 system.
  2. Press and hold the PS button on the motion controller to register it to your system. A menu will appear with the user profiles of the PS4 system.
  3. Select the profile of the user who will play with the motion controller. If existing profiles do not fit, you can create a new one.
  4. After that, you will return to the main menu of the system and can continue the game. If your PS Move motion controller is fully charged, you can disconnect the mini-USB cable from it and play.

Important Notes

Control commands and controller calibration in different games differ. Follow the on-screen instructions that appear when using the PS Move motion controllers in a PS4 game.

  • The PlayStation Eye camera for the PS3 system is not compatible with the PS4 system.
  • For games that require the use of a motion controller with a camera, the PlayStation Camera for PS4 will be used.
  • The PlayStation Move works well in a wide range of lighting conditions, but ideally, direct sunlight, glare, and background light behind the player should be minimized.

Troubleshooting PlayStation Move

  • Make sure you have registered your PS Move controllers to the system using the mini-USB cable.
  • Make sure the status light on the base of the PS Move controller is on (small red light).
  • Try controlling the system menu view with the PlayStation Move controller. Press and hold the release button T, and slide the controller smoothly left, right, up, and down. If you are able to control the navigation of the system's menus with the PlayStation Move controller, then it is working properly.

PlayStation Eye Camera

PlayStation 3 system

  1. Make sure your PS Move controllers are recognized and calibrated on your PS3 system.
  2. Select Settings from the XMB menu, then Accessory Settings.
  3. At the bottom of the device list, select Motion Controller Calibration.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to calibrate your PS Move controller on your PS3 system.

If your PS Move controller is not working properly after doing all of the above:

  1. Make sure you have calibrated the PlayStation Move controller in your game.
  2. If you are in a game, press the Select button on your PS Move motion controller to calibrate it in game.

If your PS Move controller still doesn't work properly, try resetting it. There is a reset button on the back of the controller that can be pressed using a thin and long object (such as a paperclip).

Peripherals from Sony called PlayStation Move has become a real breakthrough in motion capture technology. With Move, you not only press buttons, but also perform physical actions. Thanks to the exact transfer of your actions to the game world, you get even more accustomed to what is happening on the other side of the screen. In this article, we'll show you how to connect PS Move to PS4, and what to play with Move on PS4.

Connecting PlayStation Move to PlayStation 4

You will need the Move device itself, as well as a mini-USB cable (which charges PS3 controllers). Please note that the micro USB cable that comes with the PS4 is won't fit for synchronization. It cannot be used with PlayStation Move peripherals.

So, in order to sync the "Move" with your PS4, run the following actions:

    Connect the mini-USB cable to the "Move", and plug the other end into the PS4 system connector (either of the USB ports on the front side);

    Hold down the PS button on the controller in order to sync it with the console. At this moment, a window with a list of system users should appear in the PS4 menu;

    Select user The to which you want to assign the Move. If no profiles have been created in the system yet, you can create one yourself;

When completed, you will return to the system menu. If the Move controller is fully charged, it can be disconnected from the mini-USB cable. Look at the red light bulb at the bottom of the case. If it blinks, then the controller is charging. If the light bulb just shines, then the "Move" is fully charged.

How to manage PS4 menus with PlayStation Move

By connecting the device, you can now navigate through the sections of the system with a simple wave of the palm of your hand. To do this, hold the "trigger" on one of the Move controllers (on the back) and simply wave your palm in the direction you want to move. Games also use this method, so we recommend that you remember it.

How to pause a game using PlayStation Move

The Move controller has two buttons on each side of the device. On the right side of the "triangle" and "circle" buttons, you will find a button that seems to flow into the case. It is difficult to detect with the naked eye, but it is she who is responsible for the pause in the games. Call it the equivalent of the OPTIONS button on the DualShock 4. In addition, most games will automatically pause when you press the PS button. This can be a convenient alternative.

What to play with PlayStation Move on PS4

PlayStation Move and PlayStation VR - the best combination

Of course, the motion tracking device is best combined with virtual reality technology, that is, the PlayStation VR helmet. Most VR games allow players to use "Move" to play. We will talk about these projects.

Special edition of the fifth part of the famous role-playing series The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in VR version will allow you to see the homeland of the Nords with your own eyes. The motion controller immerses you even more in the game. You will strike enemies with a sword as if its hilt is in your palm, and magic spells fly out from your fingertips. Let's not talk about ranged attacks with a bow: with the help of PS Move, you can draw the string and shoot arrows like Legolas himself.

With PS Move, it is very convenient to play shooters, which the game confirms Until Dawn: Rush of Blood. You find yourself on a trolley in an amusement theme park. Harmless fun turns into a nightmare, and soon terrible monsters attack you. Aim at them with the "Move" and shoot the monsters. The gameplay is simple and fun: if you're looking for a "virtual shooting gallery" game for both virtual reality and motion controller, then Rush of Blood is the best choice.

Another game in the Until Dawn universe called Inpatient also benefits from using PS Move. In the game, you take on the role of a patient in a psychiatric hospital. The ability to move using the motion controller further immerses in the world of madness and nightmares. The developers have done a great job of integrating "Move" into game process, and you will appreciate their result. In this game, you'll be able to touch objects, pick up objects, and even punch... with your own palms!

Game industry extensive and multifaceted. Almost the same as those created by developers virtual worlds. So that you do not get lost in it, we have prepared answers to popular questions from gamers regarding game consoles PlayStation and Xbox licensed games and accessories for consoles.

In 2010, Microsoft introduced a new accessory for the Xbox 360 to the public for gamers. Kinect changed the way you interact with the console. The peripheral was the first motion-tracking technology-enabled system that did not require any controllers. However, how does it work? In fact, Kinect is not powered by magic. In this article, we will tell you about how the most unusual peripherals from Microsoft work.
