How much does a gaming PC with Xbox One X performance cost. PC Gamer journalists analyzed what a PC should be, in terms of price and performance comparable to Xbox One X Xbox one x card specifications

Game consoles have firmly entered our lives. Previously, each individual model was independent of the previous ones, and could only play those games that were intended for it. Nowadays, in the age of wide popularization of games, and gaming in general, game consoles have acquired the ability to use the game libraries of other console models.

Meet! A new model of the game console from Microsoft - Xbox One X!

It opens up new gaming possibilities, allows you to plunge headlong into an attractive virtual world and allows you to try something that we could not even dream of before!

The developers of the company have equipped it with the ability to be backward compatible with the Xbox One S and Xbox 360, so that everyone can create an incredible library of old games that they already love, as well as new exclusive releases for the Model X. Also, games from the Xbox One X will be ported to the previous model. company - Xbox One S.

Compared to earlier models Xbox series, One X has increased power, and, consequently, performance. Now each of us has the opportunity to enjoy incredible image quality in Ultra HD resolution, while older models display Full HD images. This leap is truly mind-blowing, as consoles now rival the graphics quality of even the most powerful computers.

The Xbox One X 1TB is priced at $499, but rest assured, that money won't be wasted.

Great design

The design of the console has undergone changes compared to the Xbox One S, but there are undoubtedly similarities, because at the time of the release of the Xbox One S, many were very impressed with the design of the console, and Microsoft decided not to go far ...

XBOX One X has a smaller size, making it more compact and convenient to place anywhere in your home or apartment.
You can buy Xbox One X in gray, which looks stylish, modern and very futuristic.

The front panel features a neat and tidy disc slot, a start button with the iconic Xbox badge, a USB port, an IR receiver, and a headset and gamepad sync button. The design of the front is strongly reminiscent of previous version, but the location of the disc slot has changed: now it is located at the bottom of the console.

Taking a look at this "miracle" of technology from Microsoft from the back, you will see two USB ports, an HDMI output and a separate input, a power connector, an infrared output, an Ethernet port and an optical audio output.

The Xbox One X controller is functionally identical to the Xbox One S controller, the only difference is the visual design: a beautiful gray finish that complements the console itself.

Characteristics

Even before the official presentation of the console, its incredible specifications that determined the success of the project.

The new model is equipped with an 8-core process with a clock frequency of 2.3 GHz, 12 GB GDDR5 RAM. The console will have an astounding 6 teraflops of graphics power thanks to a 1172 MHz GPU. "Box" has an Ultra HD Blu-ray player, and the amount of memory is 1 TB.

Thanks to the combination of Dolby Atmos and a Blu-ray player, the console received more extensive hardware capabilities. Many were skeptical that it did not use GPUs from the most popular companies such as AMD and Nvidia, but what Microsoft managed to create amazed many. The console is really powerful and productive!

Gaming Power

Many people think that comparing Microsoft consoles and PlayStation models is difficult to say which one is more powerful and why. But it is enough to pay attention to the technical characteristics and you will not have such a question. Craftsmen from Microsoft have taken a big step into the future with the help of Xbox One X.

It was not in vain that we were assured of the incredible abilities of internal iron. Even before the official presentation, the developers said that new game Forza 7 will be streamed in Ultra HD resolution at 60 frames per second. And you know they didn't lie! But this was not the limit of development.

At the official demonstration of gaming capabilities, company employees demonstrated Forza Motorsport 7 and Gears of War 4

They made a real splash! Playing Forza 7 on the Xbox One X console, you could see the car in detail not only inside, but also outside. Even the steering wheel trim looks so detailed and crisp that it sometimes feels like it's a real racing sports car. Even with the camera zoomed out, the outside of the car looks great.

But what really impressed everyone was the game's elaboration: when the car develops high speed, the external parts begin to rattle from the headwind, every little detail starts to move. Believe me, it looks incredible!

A closer look at Gears of War 4 immediately catches the eye with a chic elaboration of lighting, as well as clear shadows under the heroes' feet, which can only be demonstrated in Ultra HD. The company's developers have stated that they will gradually render all games in 4K image, and this news certainly makes you think about buying an Xbox One X as soon as possible.

Great news! If you want to buy an Xbox One X, then feel free to buy it, because it will support backwards compatibility of all Xbox One S games. This trend has continued in all models of consoles from Microsoft, Xbox One X is no exception.

There will also be opposite compatibility. Then there is a completely logical question: “Why buy a new Xbox One X console, the price of which is slightly higher, if it may seem that this situation is more beneficial for Xbox One S owners?”. This is not true.

Previously, when a new game was released, it did not have an installation base. With Xbox One X, things are different. Any game you purchase will allow you to play online with your friends as it is backwards compatible with Xbox One and Xbox One S.

The special edition will include either Forza Motorsport 7 or Gears of War 4 with the console.

Head-to-head with PS4 Pro, Xbox One X and PC to figure out what to play on in an era of slow but steady 4K adoption.

iron shop

The gaming industry has not yet grown up to Ultra HD 4K resolution (3840x2160): for gamers this is too expensive an enterprise, and developers do not really know how to score eight million pixels on the screen. You remember that FullHD monitors did not immediately come to every home.

Surprisingly, console manufacturers tried to make the new standard mass and affordable: Sony and Microsoft. Today we will compare PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, let's try to sketch out a plan for buying a PC of similar characteristics and answer the question of whether it is worth chasing 4K in a world dominated by 1920x1080 resolution.

PS4 Pro

Let's start with the one who first jumped over his head, that is, with Sony and its PS4 Pro. The system went on sale on November 10, 2016 at a price of 35,000 rubles. Compared to the regular PS4, the novelty is not far ahead: the same processor ( AMD Jaguar, eight cores), but with a frequency increased from 1.6 to 2.1 GHz, a modified graphics module (there were 36 computing units, the speed increased to 911 MHz), the same memory, only 1 GB DDR3 is now allocated to support 8 GB GDDR5 , and not 256 MB, but the throughput has increased from 176 to 218 Gb / s.

Which begs the question - how does the PS4 Pro handle 4K? And in a roundabout way - in particular, upscaling (scaling) the frame! Sony has adopted checkerboard rendering, one of the upscaling methods: in this case, 50% of the image is rendered, the missing data is taken from the buffer where the previous frame is stored, and neighboring pixels. Thus, the console honestly renders every second pixel.

Thanks to checkerboard rendering on PS4 Pro at 3840x2160, for example, Horizon Zero Dawn(at 30 fps), Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare(60 fps) and Rise of the Tomb Raider(30 fps). In individual games (say, in the same Rise of the Tomb Raider) developers offer users a choice - 4K at 30 fps, Full HD at 60 fps (recall that a regular PS4 is capable of a maximum of 1080p / 30 fps) or Full HD with sophisticated effects. Something similar can be found in Nioh .

Checkerboard rendering isn't Sony's only trick. PS4 Pro also saves dynamic resolution. In Nioh, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Diablo 3 the quality of the picture changes depending on the workload of the scene - roughly speaking, if there are a lot of enemies on the screen, the resolution drops. In natural 4K at 60 fps, very few games function on the PS4 Pro: FIFA 17 , Mantis Burn Racing, PES 17 , Wheels of Aurelia and various indie projects.

Why is there 4K - PS4 Pro even honest 1440p overcomes with difficulty and groaning. And yet, buying a console can justify itself: if the “old” game received the appropriate patch, then on the “firmware” it will work in 1080p, maybe even at 60 fps and with ennobled visual effects.

Well, there are some exceptions like Horizon Zero Dawn, showing off the fangs and muscles of the Pro version in all its glory. And although the PS4 Pro is selling very well, it should be noted that part of its success is due to the fact that the regular PS4 has managed to thoroughly become outdated.

Xbox One X

Microsoft condescendingly looked in the direction of a competitor for half a year and half-heartedly listened to not quite correct marketing promises in order to dot the “e” at E3 2017. Xbox One X, formerly known as Project Scorpio, left no stone unturned by the PS4 Pro.

The console is based on an eight-core processor with a frequency of 2.3 GHz (it is possible that we have an old familiar AMD Jaguar, carefully modified by Microsoft engineers), a graphics subsystem with forty computing units at a speed of 1172 MHz (slightly more than that of AMD Radeon RX 480) and 12 GB of GDDR5 memory with a bandwidth of 326 Gb / s. If developers on PS4 Pro have 5.5 GB of memory available, then in the case of Xbox One X, the situation is much more rosy - 8 GB.

To date, it is known that developers Forza Motorsport 7 , Project CARS 2 and F1 2017 aimed at 4K/60 fps. The teams responsible for Middle-earth: Shadow of War and Crackdown 3, requests are a little more modest - 4K / 30 fps. In the second category marks and Gears of War 4- Just like on PS4 Pro, many projects released before the launch of the console will receive special patches. We add that individual games (the same Forza Motorsport 7) will support HDR- a technology that emphasizes the transitions between shades of black and white.

But no matter how powerful the Xbox One X may seem, it also does not shy away from the “chess” rendering. Of the games presented at E3 2017, attentive journalists noticed the “corpse spots” of upscaling in Assassin's Creed Origins and Anthem .

In order not to mislead gamers, Microsoft will start gluing icons on games in the fall. Buyers can see the icons "HDR" (we explained about it a little higher) and "4K Ultra HD" - this will mean support for honest 4K, 3840x2160, using upscaling or dynamic resolution. There will also be a third icon, "Xbox One X Enhanced", which can be translated as "we did some work, but we didn't make it to 4K."

Xbox One X will appear in stores on November 7, the cost in the Russian Federation is 39,990 rubles. It turns out that the PS4 Pro song is sung? Well, she will have to make room in the market. Paying only $100 on top (exactly 5,000 rubles in the Russian Federation), you get an order of magnitude more powerful CPU and GPU, an impressive amount of memory, a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray optical drive (the PS4 Pro does not have it), and a faster hard drive. In addition, Xbox One X has added support for AMD FreeSync. The essence of this technology is simple: the display adjusts to the frame rate of the video chip, and there are no unpleasant picture breaks.

Why did we put the picture with Xbox One S? For some reason, Microsoft decided that the PS4 Pro is a rival to the Xbox One S. That is, the Xbox One X is no match.

PC

Microsoft is comparing the Xbox One X console to a $1,500 computer. Of course, the employees of the Redmond corporation are cunning. Do you want facts? Please.

From our last year test NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 it’s easy to understand that even the GTX 1080 alone can’t handle 4K at “maximum speed”. It would be a mistake to believe that inside the Xbox One X there are expensive “organs” like the GTX 1080. As the editors of the magazine rightly deduced PC World, Microsoft's "superconsole" is roughly equivalent to a PC tuned for 4K at 30 fps on medium graphics settings.

PC World assembled such a computer for $652 (the price is relevant for mid-June, when the cryptocurrency fever just straightened its shoulders). Processor included AMD FX-8300(eight cores, 3.3 GHz), motherboard ASRock 970 Pro3(with socket AM3+, support for DDR3 RAM and without Wi-Fi module), die Patriot Signature with 8 GB DDR3-1600 card Radeon RX 580 with 8 GB ( DNS indicates that now this will cost 30,000 rubles), a hard drive Western Digital Caviar Blue 1 TB (7200 rpm), power supply Thermaltake Smart(550 W) and housing Thermaltake Versa H21. Excluding disk drive and license Windows 10 Home the assembly will cost you about 60,000 rubles.

Instead of the Radeon RX 580, you can take the GTX 1060 with 6 GB of memory (25,500 rubles). Or wait until the shelves are located freely Radeon RX Vega 56 and RX Vega 64. However, PC World is not limited to one configuration, but offers a more expensive one: with Core i5-7400(four cores, 3 GHz) and ASRock Fatal1ty Z270 Gaming-ITX/ac.

Not all the "iron" press is in solidarity with PC World (especially since a month and a half has passed since the publication), some put, for example, on a bunch AMD Ryzen 3 1200(four cores, 3.1 GHz), MSI B350M Gaming Pro,

The GeForce GTX 1060, 1070, 1080, as well as the Radeon RX 470, 480, 570 and 580 fell victim to the unquenchable crypto-currency itch of the miners - what do you want to play now?

It would seem simple to answer the question of which is better - PS4 Pro, Xbox One X or PC for 60-70 thousand rubles: take the PC "for growth" and consider the case closed. That's just... none of the three options will give you access to the world of real 4K, full disclaimers. The time to jump from Full HD or 1440p to 4K never came.

PS4 Pro is attractive because it fixes the mistakes of its predecessor: here you get stable 1080p / 60 fps, fast downloads, and an obvious hint to use PS VR paired with a more powerful set-top box. Sony has carefully taken a look at the 4K market, but isn't ready to jump head first into the water just yet.

The Xbox One X boasts "4K without compromise," but it has enough simplifications, otherwise there would be no warning icons. And the surge in mining had a bad effect on the PC segment - cryptocurrency miners stole all serious video cards. So for now, we advise you to wait until November, when the Xbox One X goes on sale, and hope that by then the situation has cleared up.

Xbox One X is a powerful gaming console that offers games that gamers have never seen before. This is of greater importance, and separate problems.

A look into the past

When the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles hit the market, video game enthusiasts had a right to feel disappointed. They were significantly less efficient than their predecessors, offering disappointing hardware options. Especially in the case of Microsoft, whose Xbox One was slower than the PlayStation 4.

When the Xbox One hit the market, technical innovations were moving towards 4K resolutions. At the same time, the console from Microsoft barely reached Full HD. Although the situation has improved with numerous software updates and development tools, the hardware still renders many games at 900p resolution.

Sony was the first to solve this problem with the release of the PlayStation 4 Pro console, thanks to which new components made it possible to play at higher resolutions. Now Microsoft is doing the same with the Xbox One X.

Xbox One X successor to Xbox One or Xbox One S

It's like buying a car. The same model from the same year is available in several variants. Both cheap and economical engine, as well as expensive, much better performance. The same applies to the Xbox One consoles.

The Xbox One S is the cheaper gaming console in the series for less demanding people. With it, you can achieve success for a small price. The most expensive version of the Xbox One X costs twice as much. It has the same features as the S. It has the same games, the same system, the same available accessories, UHD Blu-ray drive, and 4K and HDR media support. What is the difference? Performance in games.

Unrivaled Computing Power

Xbox One X is 40 percent more efficient than PlayStation 4 Pro. Game developers have 6 TFLOPS graphics efficiency at their disposal, for this 12GB GDDR5 memory with 326GB/s and a 2.3GHz, octa-core processor. What's especially nice is that all the processing power is packed into a box that's almost the same size as the Xbox One S. Even the port allocation (3×USB 3.0, IR, optical out, HDMI in, HDMI out) hasn't changed.

What is more pleasant, despite its small size, the game console does not make noise when it is visited by large loads. When you start a game that is not tied to its capabilities, it works almost silently. Only when you turn on something running in UHD will you hear the noise of the fans. Luckily, their quiet and neutral tone makes a huge impression on its own.

The console can work both horizontally and vertically. Appearance here is a subjective matter. But, Xbox One S looks better, so One X seems less attractive to me. A sort of small black and expressionless brick.

Every game changes on Xbox One X

Not all games will use the processing power of the new Microsoft console properly. Not every creator wants to update their work with new graphics assets and support a new GPU. But even these games will work better on the Xbox One X. I had the opportunity to confirm this.

Games written for Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Xbox will also run on One X because game consoles Microsoft backwards compatibility. But, on the new set-top box, they will load faster, thanks to a 50% more efficient hard drive. The Xbox One X will also bring more precise texture filtering and edge smoothing mechanisms, making the non-adaptive game a bit better.

The real power is seen in games adapted to Xbox One X

Many games have already been announced, more than 140 of which, more than 70 are available from release day (November 7th), calling for accountability for the pace of adoption of games enhanced for the PlayStation 4 Pro. Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to meet everyone yet. The developers were waiting for the commercial premiere of the console with the release of patches for their productions. If you have any doubts: patches that enrich games for Xbox One X and they will of course remain free.

However, I spent many hours checking the ones that were already available. These were Gears of War 4, as well as Titanfall 2 and EA Sports FIFA 18. There were also less impressive ones like Diablo III.

It's nice to get into the world of expensive PCs

Too bad I can't show you their beauty because most of you will probably be reading this review on hardware without an HDR display and with noticeable quality compression that removes detail from the image. And also the sharpness and clarity of what's happening on a good TV is just amazing.

I connected my Xbox One X to the best LG OLED TV, as well as the brightest one available, Samsung QLED. What I saw on the screen leads to sagging of the jaw. And all this while maintaining a fixed, depending on the game, 60 or 30 frames per second, in 4K, with an expanded color palette.

Games don't just acquire liquidity, focus, and colors. Microsoft in no way restricts game developers on how they can use the power of the One X console (except for one condition: the game must work well on One S and One). Some simply increase the resolution and set the level of detail in the engine to the maximum. Others go a few steps further and provide brand new graphics, sharper textures, etc. as updates.

Some choose not to go with 4K, using intermediate resolutions and more image detail. An absolute delight is Forza Motorsport 7, which renders at 60fps at 4K resolution, active HDR and all graphics settings from PC version to max.

It's really impressive. Especially if you have a good 4K TV with HDR.

What if I have a Full HD TV?

I've read a lot of doubts online about the possible benefits of using an Xbox One X console if you have a display running at a lower resolution, no problem. One X upscales the image to 1440p, 1080p and 720p.

Because if the One X is connected to a Full HD TV, it still displays the image in 4K and then upscales it to 1080p. This eliminates the effect of smoothing, hence the lines on slanted objects. In addition, all other improvements and therefore more detailed information about graphics or faster memory still remain.

The Xbox One X console can do its part as a graphics boost even if you don't have an UHD TV. Of course, the best TV will have a special effect when it comes to picture quality. All this is complemented by the latest audio standards, including Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and Windows Sonic.

And what besides games?

Xbox One X, like all Xbox One game consoles, runs Windows 10, which means you can install apps from the Microsoft Store. Not all, those whose creator decided to publish them in the console version as well. So there is no shortage of apps for Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, ShowMax, YouTube or Spotify, although the YouTube app still doesn't support 4K and HDR.

This does not change the fact that we can easily play multimedia from popular services in full quality and from the network (via network drives, NAS) or from a memory connected via USB. In addition, the HDMI input on the game console allows you to connect a TV tuner, integrating it into the console interface. And, let's not forget the UHD Blu-ray player.

Microsoft's new game console also allows you to pause and rewind the TV signal (keeps the last 20 minutes in cache) and records the last 30 seconds of the game in 4K video format with HDR (more only if you connect external memory). One X will stream Twitch and Mixer games and post recorded clips to Xbox Live or YouTube. Prefix and our Account, can be controlled remotely with the Xbox app on Windows 10, Android and iOS.

Xbox One X - ultimate gaming experience

Owners of powerful PCs will be right to refute this. A well-configured PC connected to a pad and TV is likely to offer more convenience and quality, as there are many fans of mouse and keyboard gaming compared to the One X controller.

However, you can't underestimate the sheer carelessness and attention to every popular gaming console. And Xbox One X is a console where almost every game will run faster and look definitely better than other competitors, or they simply don't exist for other platforms.

Many games not available on others include the Halo series, Gears of War, Forza Motorsport, Forza Horizon, Quantum Break, Ori and more. While these exclusive productions are the most important to the console, market research confirms we spend the most time on multi-platform titles such as Call of Duty, Battlefield and grand theft Auto online. And Xbox One additionally allows players to stream using a PC and a Switch.

All Xbox accessories are compatible with any version

And yes, I am aware of the popular belief that Sony has the best exclusive games. Subjectively, I disagree, although Uncharted or Horizon Zero Dawn were great, and a next-gen sequel to the brilliant The Last of Us is announced, which I'd probably envy PlayStation owners for. But, I'm definitely more connected to the Microsoft device series, and as a statistical player, I end up spending more time on multi-platform games.

Wolfenstein II Assassin's Creed Origins and Middle-earth: The Shadow of War are in line for improvements over the next few weeks. Their creators, tormented by Microsoft for the One X claims, confirm that these games will look prettier and run faster on the Microsoft console.

I have another console, the one that is considered gaming

I have never understood this approach, probably because I do not understand the phenomenon Nintendo Switch. In my opinion, setting up games is very important. Maybe don't like the mechanics (I have some favorite indie games), but the setting of the game definitely affects its strengths or weaknesses.

I know there are things I don't need to understand. And if audio-visual setup is critical in gaming for you, then the Xbox One X is the console you probably shouldn't be considering. It's best to buy One S and save on the package cool games.

The One X doesn't offer you anything - except for a shorter charging time, which brings benefits in another aspect. But, the One X console unlocks thousands of graphic Ultra emotes compared to the One S. And since we have decided that this is not important for you, there is no point in overpaying.

Xbox One X is the console that has more

In some elements, this will sound comical. For example, hardware start-up sound, the dual-channel pipeline plays somewhat faster than the One S, and the console light emits harsher light (which isn't an advantage, though it's not dazzling).

Xbox One X costs about 40,000 rubles. In return, we get a TV with multimedia apps, a 4K Blu-ray player and the most powerful gaming console on the market, compatible with Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Xbox, with loyalty programs like Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Live Gold and EA Access. There's also a decent (free) database of exclusive games, a huge database of multi-platform games that always run fast and smoothly in the most gorgeous of audiovisual environments.

Is One X best car in the market to play? No. Since some of the subjective concerns are not covered here, such as whether you like Sony or Nintendo games, I won't mention the convenience of the Switch console. However, looking objectively, excluding tastes and preferences - Xbox One X can only have a competitor in the form of a powerful PC. Ark Developers: Survival Evolved determined the hands-on PC-level performance of the new Microsoft console with the GTX 1070 and 16GB of RAM.

After a week of use, the Xbox One X was still a magical device for me. My new favorite toy that I try to spend most of my free time with. I have absolutely no doubts: this console will not disappoint anyone. It is far ahead of the competition in every respect, except for the price.

Outcome

I do not regret a single ruble spent on the purchase of this game console. I would pay even more. I had high hopes for the Xbox One X and it ended up exceeding my expectations.

At the same time, this is only the beginning, when game developers are just learning to use their power, although I already feel genuine excitement. I really liked my One and One S, but I understand the legitimate criticism of these consoles. One X not only eliminates their shortcomings, but also opens up new opportunities for the creators we will meet in the coming years.

There is definitely no better time than now to join Microsoft's Xbox One family.

And it turned out that the performance of consoles is comparable to a PC for the same money, which, in general, calls into question the purchase of a console. Now a new king of consoles is appearing on the market - Xbox One X, where Microsoft promises 40% more performance than competitors (we are talking, of course, about PS 4 Pro), but, alas, the cost is also higher than competitors - on the PCT model it will be 40 thousand rubles. The console will go on sale on November 7, and it becomes interesting - maybe you shouldn't wait for it, but just collect a PC of the same performance for the same money? Let's watch.

Processor, motherboard and cooling system

The processor in the new console is almost known - it is an 8-core AMD with a frequency of 2.3 GHz (most likely on the Zen architecture). Taking into account the fact that a couple of cores, as usual, will be reserved for the system, and the frequency of 2.3 GHz is not very high, most likely the performance of such a CPU will be at the level of younger Ryzen, such as 3 1200. In any case, we will assemble a PC with a reserve for the future, that is, with the possibility of overclocking, so the performance of a 4-core Ryzen with 3.5-4 GHz will certainly not be lower than the console CPU.

It is most advantageous to take the BOX version, since it comes with a quite good cooler that will cope with the processor even during overclocking (thanks to the solder under the cover). But for overclocking to be possible, we need a motherboard with an overclocking chipset (you can read about all AMD AM4 chipsets). We will leave the X370 for extreme sportsmen, but we will focus on the B350, where overclocking is also possible. Motherboards based on this chipset cost from 5 thousand rubles - I settled on an ASRock AB350M with a simple heatsink on the power circuits, so there will definitely be no problems with overheating during overclocking.

video card

Everything is simple with the Xbox video card - it is built on the Polaris architecture, has 40 CUs (computing units) and a frequency of about 1.2 GHz, and peak performance is 6 TFLOPS. The closest competitor from the desktop camp is AMD's RX 580, which has 36 CUs but at a higher frequency (up to 1.4 GHz), while AMD says it's up to 6.2 TFLOPS performance is perfect. I chose a model with 4 GB of memory, not 8 (why - a little lower, in the choice of RAM) - MSI RX 580 ARMOR 4G OC:

RAM and storage

The console will have 12 GB of GDDR5, which plays the role of both RAM and video memory. Given that a couple of gigabytes will be reserved by the system, then 10 gigabytes will remain for the game, which will most likely be divided equally between RAM and video memory, that is, the GPU in the console will get about 5 GB - which means there is no point in overpaying for 8 GB of the RX 580 . With RAM, everything is also simple - given that Windows will eat 2 GB of RAM, the minimum required amount for our PC is about 8 GB (of course, you can put more in the future). Since Ryzen processors react extremely positively to overclocking RAM, it makes sense to take two 4 GB modules at a frequency of at least 2800 MHz - for example, the Patriot Viper Elite.

There are no problems with the drive: the console will have 1 TB HDD, well, we will take the same amount (if you wish, you can take an 80 GB SSD and a 500 HDD - it will be a couple of thousand more expensive, but the system will be much more responsive. But we are building a similar PC here consoles, so no SSD, only HDD - only hardcore). There are several hundred options on the market for hard drives with 1 TB, but Seagate Barracuda can be considered a good budget HDD - let's take it.

Power supply and case

If we calculate how much our system requires at the peak with overclocking, we get about 300 watts. But it's better not to save on a PSU, so let's look at budget options with 500 W and Bronze certification - perhaps the most popular choice is Aerocool KCAS. Yes, it is noisy, but 450 W at 12 V will give honestly, so it is also with a good margin for this system.

On the case, of course, everything is individual, but since the console is an ordinary rectangular coffin, then we will not pervert with glasses and lighting, and take exactly the same black coffin - Exegate AA-323 Black.

Total cost and possible upgrade

So, the moment of truth - how much does such a PC cost? It turned out that a little more than 45 thousand rubles:

That is, the console at the start of sales will cost only 5 thousand rubles cheaper. Taking into account the fact that games for it will cost more than for PC, there will not be much exclusives either (many games that were originally intended only for Xbox One, then came out on PC and even got on Steam), and after a year and a half, components with the same performance will cost even less, the question arises - what's the point of something in the Xbox One X? Microsoft clearly overpriced: for 30 and even 35 thousand rubles, I think no one would have any questions - a PC with the same hardware would cost up to one and a half times more. But for 40 thousand rubles, many people will already think about buying a gaming PC instead of a box.

But let's not talk about sad things, and move on to the upgrade. Perhaps the very first thing to do is to buy an SSD. Of course, you can work and play on a hard drive, and this does not affect FPS in any way, but the speed of working with the system will increase significantly when you buy even the simplest SSD. The second is to increase the RAM: 8 GB can now be considered a working minimum, it’s better to fork out and take 16 in the future. Well, there is essentially no further upgrade: Ryzen 3 works great together with the RX 580, but to get significantly best level, you need to take at least Ryzen 7 and GTX 1080 already - yes, the motherboard and PSU will withstand it, but the cost of such an upgrade will be one and a half times higher than the cost of the entire current assembly.

With the original Xbox One, the Redmond corporation made two serious miscalculations in key areas - engineering and marketing. The console was equipped with universal DDR3 memory with a bandwidth of 68.3 GB / s paired with a high-speed 32 MB ESRAM buffer (204 GB / s). The PlayStation 4 used fast GDDR5 (176 GB / s). Theoretically, the Xbox One scheme performs just as well, and even provides an advantage in some tasks, but in practice, for developers of multiplatform games, ESRAM only created additional difficulties and eventually became a bottleneck that limited the performance of the entire system.

In addition, at launch, the Xbox One was equipped with a Kinect 2.0 motion controller, which was positioned as a must-have accessory. The decision cost Microsoft dearly: the PlayStation 4 cost a hundred less ($399 versus $499), which, with the implicit advantages of Kinect, made the choice obvious for many millions of buyers.

It was a serious blow. Microsoft has not recovered from it so far - even the price cut did not help, to which Sony responded first with the PlayStation 4 Slim, and a couple of months later with the PlayStation 4 Pro. The numbers will speak louder than any words: the current total PS4 shipments exceeded 67.5 million units, while Microsoft stopped publishing official data after November 2014. SuperData estimates that around 33 million Xbox One units have been sold.

The Xbox One X is now available worldwide. She entered the game at a very difficult time, when the corporation has no room for error. The most powerful console in history is a bid to turn the tide in favor of the Xbox. And a very good application. So let's get started.

Contents of delivery

In the box, the buyer of the Xbox One X, in addition to the console itself, will find the following:

  • gamepad (with Bluetooth and 3.5mm audio jack) and a pair of AA batteries;
  • HDMI cable 2 m long;
  • power cable;
  • start instructions;
  • code for 14 days of Xbox Live Gold subscription;
  • 1 month Xbox Game Pass code.

Anyone who wanted to see the top-end Elite controller in the kit can roll their lip back - with a retail price of $150 for the gamepad and $499 for the console itself, this is unrealistic. But the Play & Charge Kit battery could have been put in instead of disposable batteries.

Beauty outside

The Xbox One X looks to match its ambitions. I didn’t have any complaints about the look of the original Xbox One either (and no, I’m not blind), but against the background of the new product, the old “vidik” seems like a funny guest from the past. And without any comparison, the Xbox One X looks cool, with its strict straight lines and matte black plastic (alas, quite easily soiled). The positive impression only intensifies when you take the console in your hands: precise and tight fit of the elements and considerable weight create a feeling of solidity.

Interfaces

On the front panel there is a power button, an optical drive gate, an IR receiver, one USB connector and a gamepad pairing button.

The side panels are generously dotted with perforations for air intake - there are no connectors on them. All of them live on the back side: power supply, HDMI output, HDMI input, a pair of USB, an IR blaster output, S / P-DIF optical audio output and Ethernet. A massive radiator peeps through the honeycombs below them, through which hot air escapes.

iron inside

Xbox One X is positioned as a console capable of providing games with native 4K resolution at 60 frames / s. To do this, Microsoft, in collaboration with AMD, has significantly changed and optimized the hardware platform. Engineers have put a lot of effort into reducing latency and speeding up low-level communication between console subsystems. The scale of the work done made it possible to give the system-on-a-chip a new name - Scorpio Engine.

It carries 8 modified Jaguar cores running at 2.3 GHz. The frequency of the graphics processor operating 40 computing units is 1172 MHz. 12 GB of GDDR5 memory (384-bit bus and 326 GB / s bandwidth) lined up in a semicircle around the crystal. ESRAM was abandoned. 4 GB reserved for the system, 8 GB given to game developers. By comparison, the Xbox One and PS4 offer 5GB each, while the PS4 Pro has 5.5GB available to developers.

What can I say, just take a look at the plate below. The Xbox One X is truly the most powerful console on the market.

But the price is appropriate - get ready to pay 39,990 rubles. On the other hand, Microsoft conducted such a brilliant information campaign that those interested got the opportunity to decide on the question "to take or not to take" even before the console went on sale.

What a huge Xbox One seems against the background of X!

Before the launch of Xbox One X, almost everything was known about it. The Redmonds, in about the characteristics and work done with the hardware, listed the games that were released and are being prepared for release and actively collaborated with the Eurogamer "digital laboratory", which was able to analyze the performance of various projects:, and many others. It remains only to tell about how to live with all this.

Impression

Despite the fact that the Xbox One X is smaller and much more powerful than its predecessors, subjectively it makes even less noise than the Xbox One and PS4. I almost forgot to include this moment in the review, because only on the second day I caught myself thinking that I could not hear the console. It is absolutely silent in the menu, but it is worth launching Gears of War 4 or Forza Motorsport 7, running in native 4K, as the only turbine, which is entrusted with the task of removing heat, spins up. Silence is replaced by a rustling hum, which is clearly audible only when the sound is turned off (or very quiet). In a word, during gaming sessions, this annoying factor is absent.

But another factor comes into play: the volume of downloadable games. High quality resources require a lot of disk space - get ready for long downloads. Many Xbox One X enhancement projects weigh twice as much as we've been accustomed to in recent years. A few examples:

  • Forza Motorsport 7: 95 GB;
  • Gears of War 4: 103.3 GB;
  • Halo 5: Guardians: 107 GB.

A 1 TB hard drive after such news seems quite tiny. Especially in light of the fact that after the first launch, when nothing has been installed on the HDD yet, only 780.9 GB is available to the user.

There is not much to say about the Xbox One X software shell - it is changeable like a chameleon. Since the launch of Xbox One in 2013, the interface has been redesigned so many times that users have already lost count. Today's iteration is quite handy: Pressing the Xbox button on your controller opens a shortcut menu to various sections (friends, settings, achievements, and so on), and the digital storefront now lets you filter games with enhancements for Xbox One X. Conclusion

The Xbox One X has a lot in common with the Elite controller. This is the pinnacle Xbox families, the epitome of brand strength and a product for enthusiasts who want the very best hardware in a given generation. Support for 4K and HDR, coupled with the computing capabilities of the Scorpio Engine, allow us to talk about a margin of safety before the arrival of ninth generation systems. This is a powerful machine with a lot of potential, and it is expressed in specific names - here at this link you can follow the status of all games with announced improvements for Xbox One X. The choice is huge, plus do not forget that in general all games (and without the announced optimizations) will work faster - simply due to increased productivity.

However, native 4K at 60 frames / s will not submit to all high-budget blockbusters - now only some internal Microsoft studios that know the system thoroughly from all sides can provide such parameters. But not all - if Forza Motorsport 7 honestly runs at 4K/60 FPS, then the already mentioned Gears of War 4 runs either at 4K/30 FPS or 1080p/60 FPS.

Nevertheless, the Xbox One X is the first real step forward for gaming consoles towards real 4K. And the question of price in our area is not so unambiguous: try to assemble a computer for 40 thousand rubles that can cope with at least 4K / 30 FPS in demanding games. The GTX 1070 alone, which produces roughly the same level of graphics as the Scorpio Engine, will cost more than 30 thousand ...

For some time now, Microsoft has headed for the convergence of Xbox and PC: Xbox One will soon support the keyboard and mouse, and the Play Anywhere program is already operating (when you buy one copy of the game, you get keys on PC and Xbox One). One corporation cannot kill - crazy sales on Steam. But otherwise, the Xbox One X looks like an interesting alternative to a high performance gaming PC for those who just want to buy, plug and play.
