More recently, for me, the phrase Final Fantasy was almost an empty phrase, telling me only that something is some kind of Japanese series of RPG games. My real introduction to this series of games was recently when I played Final Fantasy III. I know that there are many games from this franchise, but most of them are almost completely unrelated, so you can start with any of the parts without losing much. So why did I choose Final Fantasy III? I saw it in the Google Play store for Android phones and decided, why not? As you guessed, I played a full-fledged 3D remake of 2006 on my smartphone, which differs from the original only in a slightly more extended plot and a few little things.

So why did I start writing a review for a game that was originally released back in 1990?

This is the plot! Okay, not the plot - the gameplay, but now about the plot.

background

The plot is completely saturated with Japanese flavor and that's good, let's take a break from saving America. Our main characters, and there are four of them, live on the Floating Continent, hanging above the ground. The world is full of mages and knights in armor, medieval castles, and villages - all in keeping with the canon of medieval fantasy, but that doesn't stop ships from having an engine that allows them to fly. The world is in balance between darkness and light. But the day comes when the darkness breaks out of control and the world begins to need its saviors - the Warriors of Light.

Now a personal story

Once an earthquake opened a passage to the Altar Cave near the small town of Ur. Since there is no Internet on the Floating Continent, and our main character is a young man, he has nothing to do and spends his days looking for adventures for his asshole. Our young man's name is Lunet and he is an orphan who was sheltered by Topapa, the elder. He has silver hair and purple eyes, is brave, and is the type of person who can't sit still.

So one fine day he wanted to climb into the Cave of the Altar and look around, but the impenetrable darkness did its job and he fell into the pit. Having made our way through the dungeon and killing the giant turtle, we will meet the Wind crystal, which will tell us that we have been chosen to restore balance to the world. (Yes, in Japanese games Crystals can do this. Realizing that we just talked with the crystal, getting out of the cave and returning back to the city, we will see how other children bully our best friend and concurrently the second main character - Arch. He has the type of a right boy who prefers books to games with other teenagers, which is why they laugh at him, as a result of which he sets himself the goal of proving that he is not a coward and sets off with Lunet on a campaign to save the world. Ark has brown hair and wears a yellow sweater and green cloak. Despite all the timidity, he stands out for his kindness and desire to help others.

Entering the city of Casus, we will find that everyone has become ghosts that the Genie has bewitched, and at the same time we will meet the third main character - Refia, the main nyasha of this game. She has red hair and red eyes and wears a white shirt with a blue vest. The very embodiment of responsibility.

Here, our brave heroes get down to business and find out that in order to defeat the Genie, they need a jade ring, which the king just has. We go to the castle of Sasune and at the reception of the King we learn that the king's daughter stole the ring and went alone to fight the Genie. One of the king's subjects, the orphan knight Ingus, asks the king for permission to help us with the Genie and joins the group, becoming the fourth main character. All four warriors of Light are assembled and from that moment begins the story of teenagers who are destined to restore balance in the world and restore the former power of the Crystals of Light. In general, a naive and pleasant story with its own jokes and its own drama.

How about hardcore?

Final Fanyasy III is an RPG. We all remember that the original came out in 1990, so no over-the-shoulder view and rolls, just isometrics.

Exploration is an important part of the game, and no less interesting. We wander either in a certain location, whether it be a cave, a castle or a city, or on a reduced map of the world. In Game open world, at first it is limited, but soon the entire floating continent opens, and after that other lands. The study is supplemented by the fact that there are a lot of secrets in the game and there are two ways to find them:

The first is the approach of the camera to the character, bringing it closer, some objects begin to highlight and become interactive, interacting with these objects, you can open some secret passage or pick up some object.

The second is the developers flirting with an isometric view, that is, there may be a passage that is not visible, but the character can go there and at the end of this we will find a chest with some kind of weapon, magic or something even better.

It’s also better to follow the dialogues and the plot, so that later you don’t have to ask yourself: “Where to go?”. The game often sets the task to go somewhere or talk to someone and in such cases residents of cities or villages can help: you can talk with each of them and everyone will tell something of their own. Exploring dangerous locations like caves, or wandering around the map, a battle can happen. Here we do not see monsters from afar, as in other games, the battle happens absolutely randomly. That is, you walk through the cave, do not touch anyone, you do not see anyone, and then there is a flash, and you are already in combat mode. This is where the second part of the game begins: the combat system.

The combat system is a turn-based combat, where we, controlling the whole group of characters, choose what actions each of them will do, and this can be a regular strike, defense, magic, the use of a healing potion, or the like. After we hit and hit us, we evaluate the situation and choose what to do next for the characters, who to attack and who to heal, and so on until you kill the enemy or kill you. If the situation is completely heated, then you can try to escape from the battle, but in this case you will not get experience. Periodically, the task is complicated by the fact that, according to the plot, we turn into midgets or frogs, and if the former lack only a physical attack, then in the form of a frog we are generally defenseless. So far, everything looks simple, but everything is complicated by the fact that after visiting the first crystal, character professions appear, allowing them to use magic or perform some special actions, for example, a thief can try to steal something from an enemy, an archer can make a strong blow, by spending more arrows, the scientist can assess the state of the enemy, finding out how many health units he has and what he has a weakness for (lightning, wind, fire), and the knight can take damage for another character who is on the verge of death. Mages are also different: Blacks can only use black magic, whites can use white magic, and reds can use both, but up to a certain level of magic. In addition to different abilities, each class has its own weapons and clothing. There are about 26 professions in total.

Since I mentioned equipment, I will say that each of the four characters can carry 2 weapons (sword and shield, bow and arrows, 2 staffs or 2 swords, and many more combinations). There is also a slot for a headdress, robes and bracers.

Naturally, the game has its own economic system and you can find sellers in any settlement. Usually this is a tavern where you can buy various potions and sleep, thereby restoring strength, a blacksmith, an armor seller or a magician, you can buy various magic from him, yes, our characters do not have innate abilities for magic. In cities, you can also find a resurrection source where you can revive dead characters.

We cannot pump skills manually, but we have the right to change profession at any calm moment, however, we receive a damage penalty for several battles. Experience is needed to level up characters. The higher the level, the easier the battle with opponents, however, the battle with the boss (they are at the end of each dungeon) is always a challenge. In terms of difficulty, the game shows teeth from the very beginning and it really delivers after some kind of Battlefield. I don't know how it all sounds, but it plays great. The game gives a wonderful feeling of road adventure and new experience for people unfamiliar with this series.

The Japanese as creators

Japanese designers have their own characteristics when creating characters and for me, as a person who is not familiar with anime and the like, it is a difficult task to determine the gender of a character. Seriously. At first I thought that Lunet was a girl, and that I understood that Ark was a guy only after surfing the Internet, but this is only my problem with my Western perception. Another thing is about any evil spirits and ordinary opponents, with this they have complete order. The variety of images of opponents is amazing, there are at least a hundred of them, and there are even more of all kinds of configurations. The locations are also diverse and each dungeon is individual, the decoration of the castles is replaced by the view of lava rivers, and it is always so, it is always pleasing to the eye, and this is the main thing.

Music - it conveys the emotions of the place where we are and is generally nice to hear musical accompaniment while exploring the area, but it is worth remembering that the themes are made in the Japanese style and someone may not like it, it does not bother me, I feel good.

The sounds of blows are always pleasant, I don’t remember who would screw up with this, but the voice acting deserves a separate word - it doesn’t exist, no, it’s not a minus, this is often found in Japanese games, take, for example, Zelda. I just couldn't help but mention it. A pleasant 3D picture perfectly copes with its task - to please the eye.

I am very glad that I stumbled upon this game and finally started to get acquainted with this wonderful series. And I am sure that my acquaintance will not be limited to the third part and I will go through the rest of the games. Of course, this will take a long time, because the passage of part 3 took a very long time, and it definitely does not apply to games in one day. The main idea of ​​the game - light and dark, good and evil should be in the right amount in the world, because when one thing begins to dominate, the balance is disturbed and disasters occur. Agree, not a weak philosophical basis for an eight-bit RPG. The plot of the game is extremely exciting and non-trivial - a lot of colorful heroes and villains, a lot of dialogues, a huge variety of locations and vehicles. It will not do without an extinct civilization (Cetra!), the legacy of ancient magicians and a mysterious dark force, which is the cause of all troubles. The passage takes at least 25-30 hours, which is a lot for such an old game.

Unfortunately, the main characters are faceless in the image and likeness and have the name and appearance that the player chooses for them. Well, of course, it will not do without Sid, who will (naturally) be a designer of flying ships. Unfortunately, the heroes will have to lose many friends (and how without it, because this is Final Fantasy).

What to say about the graphics? In my opinion, there are only two games on the NES that are not affected by the low power of the console and that look much better than many 16-bit games. This, I'm sorry Bubble Bobble 2(our favorite game! - ed.) and the same Final Fantasy III. It's incredible that a game released on such a weak system can look so great! Cities compared to previous parts occupy simply huge areas, now you can go into houses and talk with residents (this opportunity has fully appeared only in Final Fantasy III). I'm not going to talk about the impeccable design of cities and dungeons, but I can't help but express my admiration for the beauty of the world map and battle scene backgrounds. Almost everything is the same there, only without an overly complicated system of “skills” - each hero can choose a profession to his liking, and then change it at any time. New professions appear in the story, some are necessary to complete a certain section of the game. Let's say, to defeat one of the bosses who constantly changes his strengths and weak sides, you can’t do without a “scientist” who easily finds the weaknesses of enemies. Despite the fact that the battles are still turn-based (semi-real time will appear only in the fourth part), thanks to this innovation, they have become much more dynamic. Now, in combat, the character can use any item from the inventory, and not just those that he is wearing. A lot of items appeared, using which in battle you can cause damage to enemies. The magic system has changed dramatically. Most of all, it resembles the matter system from, although the word “matter” does not sound in the game. Most importantly, it was Final Fantasy III that gave the world Summoned monsters, without which Final Fantasy is no longer Final Fantasy at all. I must say that since the first appearance in 1990, they and their functions have changed little - the same favorite Ifrit, Shiva, Bahamut and the rest of the "freaks" and even their attacks remain the same.

Final Fantasy III also gave the world the Mogs - it was there that these strange, white-winged kitten-like creatures first appeared. Also, people, elves, midget midgets, fairies and gnomes live in an amazing fairy-tale world (the last three races will also appear in). And, of course, you can’t avoid meeting with chocobos, which now come in two varieties - regular and fat! Fat chocobos can be used as a warehouse, giving them extra items that do not fit into the inventory to eat (we don’t even want to know how the items are then removed from there - ed.). Well, on ordinary ones, of course, you can ride. And besides this, the heroes will have to change a lot of vehicles - a canoe, a Viking ship, four types of flying ships and even a submarine.
Alas, even such a wonderful game could not do without serious shortcomings. The main disadvantage of FF3 is, perhaps, game balance. It is clear that in such a complex and multi-level game it is impossible to calculate the complexity for all stages, but still ... The difficulty level at first seems to be average, but sometimes it is replaced by extremely high, and sometimes it is insultingly easy. And at the end of the game, when the series of the last bosses begins, the complexity goes beyond any limits. Have you fought with Omega Weapon? So, compared to the final boss of Final Fantasy III, Omega is a real baby!! Here, even pumping will not save, but only a scrupulous selection of classes and the search for the necessary items. Now click on the skull in the upper right corner of the room - we will open a secret corridor. Let's go there... We'll meet Sarah - the daughter of King Syson. After a little dialogue, she will join the party, but not as a fighter. We go along the corridor. At the fork, we first choose the lower path - we will find Veterok. Then we go up. The new enemies of this area - Coins and Lavrois - are destroyed in the same way as the skeletons. In the chest we take Bright Eyes. Now we go to the left, then down and we will meet the Genie. Before the battle, it is desirable to heal.

After defeating the boss, Princess Sarah will seal the Genie in a ring, and we will teleport to Saison's castle. We watch how Sarah throws the ring with the Genie sealed in it into the source and get into the throne room. We speak with the king and get a canoe from him. We leave the castle and return to the global map.

He will join the team and advise you to talk to the local blacksmith Tako - he will be able to attach a ram to the airship, with which we will overcome the blocking path on the global map - a huge stone (boulder). The Taco House is located in the north of the City. The blacksmith, in gratitude for saving the city, will remake Sid's airship free of charge. There is a Potion in the jug next to the blacksmith. After leaving Tako's house, we head to the entrance to the Mithril Mine. We pass with a fight to the upper dead end and click on the third wall on the left. A passage will open to another room, in which we will find 2 Mithril swords. We leave the mine. Before the upcoming road, it is advisable to relax in a motel and buy a little in stores: we need Mithril rings (for magicians), Gloves (for a fighter), Shields, Armor and Helmets (for a fighter and a red magician), you can buy Mithril Staff and Dagger from weapons, and from magic - Fire (1 level of the black magician). That's it, we have nothing else to do here, we leave the city.

Sid will leave us at the entrance, giving advice at parting. We make a visit to the first house on the left (there are 2 doors: the right one - to the house, the left one - to the motel, to our right). There is a Pie in a pot near the fireplace. We can talk to Sabrina and her mother. Now we go to the upper right corner of the city - the steps will lead to the river. Having gone down, we go along the river to the ford until we find the Elixir. Now we go to the house, which is located in the far left corner - this is Sid's house. We talk to him. His wife got sick. We use Elixir on it (from the menu of items called by one button). We speak with Sid. He will open the way to the candle. Click on it, and a secret passage will open in Sid's vault. We go to the left and go down the stairs. From the cache we will take: Greatbow, Potion, 2 Mijon, Mitigation (heals petrification), Ambrosia (can revive fallen friends), Heavy Arrows and Shadow magic (Level 2 Black Magic). Now let's go down into the water - on the right side there is another stash with Mitigation, Potion, Heavy Arrows and Ambrosia. There are 2 more spells you can buy in the magic shop: Thunder and Poison (both level 2 Black Magic). We leave the city.

We're heading for the mountain. In the air we will see Bahamut flying towards the top.

We approach the moving grass - a voice will be heard from it, and then Darsh will appear. We will hear the cry of Bahamut - the battle will begin. Beating him is a stupid and vain thing (I remember soaking him for 2 hours). The only thing we need to do is just run away. We speak with Darsh. He will give us Mini Magic (Level 2 White Magic) and join the team. Let's jump down...

We go to the southern forest and use Mini's magic on all the characters in the squad (do not forget that one magic spell can be applied to one or all characters at once). We will get to the city of Lilliputians Tozas.

While our characters are small, fight the enemies simple weapons very difficult, therefore, either use magic, or try to escape from the battlefield! We need to go 2 floors along the corridor to the left until we are on the map.

Viking base

You can return to normal! We follow the path until we reach a person sleeping in a bed and two candles on the sides of the corridor. Near the right candle there is a secret passage to a chest with 300 gold. We go up to the stairs, but we do not rise, but we go into the door on the right - this is a hotel. Here you can buy magic - we need 3 more spells of the second level and 3 of the first (soon we will be forced to make the whole group mages!). Now let's go up the stairs. We go to the left and down the secret passage. We go down the stairs. We speak with the old man. We take 600 gold from the chests. If necessary, you can revive fallen friends in this room. Now we return to the central passage and go right. In a secret passage, among the cores, we must find a way to a room with three chests. They have 3 magic - Ice ur. 2, Fire Lv. 2 and Thunder Lv. 2 (all are Black Magic level 3). We return to the corridor and go right. Cannon can be fired if desired. We go up the stairs.

The ship is moored to the shore, but we don’t need to get on it yet (unless we pump up the exps). Our course is the Temple of Nepto on the southern peninsula.

In view of our miniform, it is better not to engage in battle with the local bastiary. Here we are at two holes. We go to the left and take the Helmet and Steel Armor (for the Fighter). We go back to the fork and into the right hole. Take the Snake Sword from the chest and continue through the right hole. We'll get to the third floor. We go along the long corridor directly to visit the boss. Before the battle, we heal and make the fighters dark magicians for a while (if they have no or little MP, then you will have to return to the Viking hotel and “recharge”!), And also put all the members of the squad in the back row.

After the victory, we take the red eye of Nepto. Now you have to make a fascinating path back to the statue of the dragon's head. We return to our normal jobs, and equip the characters with their usual equipment (I'm talking about a fighter and a monk). Use the red eye of Nepto on the statue and get Water Fang from the sea dragon.

First, let's go through the secret places - we go to the left, to a dead end with grass, and we find the Wine of the Gods. Next to this cache there is another - we go up to the passage between the house, and we find the Great Bow. Above this place, you can find the Wacky Outfit. Finally, the last treasure lies in the very right corner of the town near the grass - this is the Frost Staff. Now we go to the northernmost house - the local headman lives here. From the woman in the house we learn about the cache in the fireplace. Let's go there. From the pot we take Triple nunchucks, from the chests - Ambrosia and Kenpo clothes (for a monk).

We leave the city and through the desert we go to the west, then to the south and a little more to the west. In the forest, we can catch chocobos for fast movement around the map. A little to the west is the Village of the Ancients.

This village has a huge number of new, but expensive things. We need to buy: from magic - Gaze (White magic level 1), Exit and Wash (White magic level 3), and from uniforms - Clothes of a sorcerer for magicians. An interesting detail - there is a girl in the city who promises to give us something if we go around the map on a chocobo. If we saddle one of them in the forest and do this simple manipulation, then we will receive Bread midgest as a gift. We leave the village.

We pass 2 screens to the room with torches. Click on the right torch - a secret passage will open. He will lead us to the steps, but we do not go up yet, but we clear 3 chests - they contain 3000 gold. Now up - there are 6 chests of gold, in total - 13,000 coins! Now let's go back to the main hall and go to the round table room. Here is another hiding place in the right education without steps. We take Bombash and Veterok from there. We leave the castle. With the money found, you can and should buy supplies in the Village of the Ancients. When we are ready, we head to the cave, which is located above the lake with the sea monster (west of the Argass castle).

We pass along the corridor and go down to the floor below. We speak with the gurgant and get the Toad spell (White magic level 2). We leave the cave.

The prospect of being toads does not shine for us at all, so it is better to remove the spell by re-casting it on the characters. We pass through the corridor to the steps. Second floor. We pass through the bridge over the abyss and take the Kiss on the right (heals the condition of the Toad). We go left and up to the rise. Third floor. Just follow the corridor to the stairs. Fourth floor. We pass along the bridges down - there are two ways: the right one - to the chest with the Tarving sword (Red Mage), the left one - to the stairs to the new floor. Fifth floor. There's a dead end here. Let's ask Darsh about it. He will say that there is a lever on the wall - 8 steps to the left. Having opened the passage, we can go to the steps - in the course to the left of them lies another Kiss. Sixth floor. We're just heading for a new uphill. Seventh floor. In the passage on the right, you can take the EchoList and the Bombash. The left path leads to a new floor. Eighth floor. Going up, we will find another fork. The right move - to the Echolist (local enemies are very fond of casting silence, so the item will not be superfluous), the left one to the next, already boring steps. Ninth floor. There are 3 chests: in one - the Fiery sword (the best weapon for a fighter at this stage!), in the second - the armor of the Flame, in the third - the Wrath of Zeus. We go up the stairs. Tenth floor. Before us new boss, so we are treated, and only then we approach him for a conversation.

After the fight, we go forward to the fire and press "A" - a sad scene will play out with Dash, but it's too early to say goodbye to him.

The whirlpool to the right of the tower has disappeared, so we can safely swim on. Our task is to swim to the cave of the Dwarves (Gnomes), but we will wait a bit with this. Leaving the tower behind, we sail east and then south. Soon we'll see on the ground on the right new village. Us here.

The following new spells can be purchased from the Magic Shop: Blunder, Shadow, Tier 3 Ice (all are Tier 4 Black Magic), Libra, Konfu, and Tycho (all three are Tier 4 White Magic). You can relax in the hotel, as well as read the message from the translators (in the original it was a message from Square) - a cache to the right of the door to the bedroom. In the store in the north we buy about a dozen keys. In principle, there is nothing else to do in the city.

We return to normal. We go down, and then along the bridge to the right. We take Mitigation from the chest and go through the hole (marked on the wall on the right). In the new room we go to the steps. Once on the second floor, continue the path. In the first chest there will be the Wrath of Zeus, in the second the same, in the third and fourth - Mitigation. The steps are at the top right of the last chest. The third floor is located among the river. The two chests here contain 600 gold. To the left of the second of them is Guzko. This is the new boss. Before the battle, we dress the fighters in clothes that protect against fire (Ice armor).

Having won, we take the Horn and return to the cave of the Dwarves. A mysterious line will follow us, the purpose of which we will learn in the cave.

At the first fork, we go left and take the Breeze, and then return and go down the lava (if the fighter is wearing ice armor, then lava damage will not be applied). At the second fork, if you go right, you can get another Veterok. Further we go to the left and soon we will find a descent down. At the new fork (at the lavafall) at the bottom we can find the sword of Ice. We go to the left. At the new fork there are two ways: up and down. Below in the chest is a Mega Potion. Taking it, we go up. There is another MegaPotion in the chest. Finally, go left and down to the stairs to the lower floor. At the first fork, we go left for the Potion, and then back and up. At the top, click on the stone to open the passage, and take the MegaPotion from the chest. We go to the passage. In the new room we go around the mini lake and go in the door (we are being treated!).

We approach and speak with the crystal. We will receive the works of the Fire Crystal! These are Knight, Hunter, Thief and Scientist. We leave through the pentagram portal and return to the cave of the Dwarves.

Dwarf Cave

A boy will come running to us, asking for help in the village of Tokkl. Let's leave that for later. We speak with the dwarf at the bottom right - he will open the passage to the treasury for us - we follow him. 16 treasure chests! They contain: Diamond (you can get out of the dungeon if things are really bad), Gauntlets, Echo Leaf, Scientist's clothes, Scientist's helmet, Knight's armor, 2 Ambrosia, Hero's shield, Carrot, Book of light, ice, flame (Scientist), Mitigation, Assassin's Bow and Elixir. If there is not enough space, there is a chocobo forest in the forest under the cave of fire - we use carrots on the tree, thereby summoning a fat chocobo that can be used as a warehouse. Now we change the fighter to the knight (this is an improved work of the fighter, and we do not need to return to the old class!). We rest and sail to Tokkl.

As soon as we walk a few steps, we will be captured by Hine's soldiers.

After talking with all the prisoners, use Mini's magic and get out of the cage through the hole in the upper left corner. We will enter the labyrinth. Back to normal size. There are Holy Arrows at the bottom of the room. In the center left is a hidden passage further. Let's go there. In the new room, we take Ambrosia from the chest and go up the stairs. We are in front of three doors. For the middle - 6300 coins, for the right - Wrath of Zeus and Ambrosius, for the left - only 130 gold. Now we go up the corridor and go through the door. We take the sword of the King and pass to the left. We go up the stairs. We go along the upper passage and take Ambrosia. We go along the left corridor down to the stairs. On the fifth floor we go up. In the right corridor, you can take the Rune Bow. The door on the left leads to the boss. Before the battle, we heal, and also change the work of our White Mage to the Scientist - this will help you easily win the battle!

Having defeated Hine, we watch the development of the plot - soon we will find ourselves in the Living Forest, to the west of Tokkla. Fairies and the Tree of Life will give us the fang of the Wind. We leave the forest.
