Mafia game with explanation. Mafia characters. How to play Mafia with regular cards

And a way of positive communication, and a show, and a comic struggle for survival. It develops observation, intuition, communication skills, can help to see the hidden meaning and motives of the behavior of others and oneself. Usually the rules of the Mafia game change depending on the company or club, and there is no single indestructible template by which all meetings take place. To have an interesting evening, you will not need any special preparation, skills, or tangible cash costs.

This is a living process, the essence of which is determined by the participants themselves. He is interesting precisely because of his emotions, mood, some intrigue of a detective investigation. There are only advisory classic rules Mafia games that define the essence of all meetings.

How to play Mafia. Basic principles

logical card game"Mafia", the rules of which are very simple, is based on a simple story about a gang of insidious criminals who kill one person every night, and are tired of this civilians. A real war begins, where the main enemies are the brave Sheriff and the Chief Mafiosi.

In the classic Mafia, the number of participants is strictly 10, but now few adhere to this canon. True, if there are fewer people, it becomes uninteresting to play. With a very large crowd of people, from 20 people, all discussions are excessively dragged out, and it is difficult for the host to make sure that everyone follows the established rules of the Mafia game. The cards must be dealt with before the start. It is necessary to calculate how many people will participate, and prepare a deck according to the number of players. The ratio of Civilians to the Mafia is approximately 3 to 1. Usually they use special cards for this game, but you can take ordinary ones, having previously decided on their value.

"Night of Destiny"

When the board game "Mafia" begins, the rules of the game assume the distribution of roles. The host says: “The city is falling asleep. The night of fate is coming." This is a sign for all players to close their eyes or put on a special bandage. Each participant is invited to draw his card from the common deck, which will determine the further status of the player. You cannot show it to other participants, as well as reveal your role. After the first, most calm, day begins. Everyone “wakes up”, gets to know each other and their new roles.

Description of classic cards and roles

  • Mafia. Any cards of black (Spades, Clubs) suit. The task of this gang is to eliminate all civilians. At night they do their dark work, and during the day they pretend to be civilians.
  • Leader, or Mafia Boss. Ace of spades or king. His goal is to remove the Commissioner, or Sheriff. To do this, at night he asks the leader to open the card of one player in order to calculate the enemy.
  • Civilians. Any card of red (Diamonds, Hearts) suit. Their goal is to figure out and eliminate all members of the mafia during the day's discussion.
  • Commissioner, or Sheriff. Ace of diamonds or king. Whether armed or not. At night after the mafia can "kill" one participant or ask the presenter to open his status.

In the classic version, these are all characters, but each club has its own Mafia game. Rules may be added. To make the action even more interesting, new roles are added that provide more opportunities for communication.

Some additional cards and characters

  • Doctor. Heart or diamond lady. At night after the mafia can "heal" the "killed" player. All actions of the mafia against the participant pointed out by the Doctor are cancelled.
  • Maniac, or Lone Shooter. Joker. Plays for himself. He wins if there is only one left among the civilians.
  • Prostitute, or Putana. Queen of Spades. At night, he chooses a "client" from the players and does not allow him to complete the task. All actions of the Mafia, Commissar, Doctor or Maniac are canceled if Putana pointed to him.

dating night

Everyone is "asleep". According to the host’s remark “Mafia wakes up to get acquainted”, all participants with “black” cards, except for the Prostitute, open their eyes. If this is the classic Mafia board game, the rules of the game on this single night allow the gang members to agree on which villagers they will kill next. Subsequently, they will not be able to remove the bandage at night. All communication is carried out with very careful gestures so that neighboring players do not notice anything and do not suspect.

The first day

Everyone is "waking up". The discussion begins. The goal is to identify the main suspects of belonging to a group of criminals. Participants put forward their assumptions, arguments - true or not - and name the citizen, whom it is desirable to remove. The basic rules of the game "Mafia" (in the classic version) do not take more than a minute for each remark. After an open general vote, the players "execute" the participant who caused the most suspicion.

Night one and after

It is on this night that the insidious "Mafia" will commit its first "crime". The leader wakes up all the characters active at this time in turn.

If there is Putana in the game, she wakes up first and chooses a “client” for herself, who becomes powerless for that night.

Gang members awaken (if not classic game"Mafia", the rules of which forbid everyone to take off their bandages). Criminals use gestures to point to the “victim”. According to the canonical version, the Host starts counting up to 10. Each number means a certain participant. Mafiosi give a thumbs up when they hear the "victim's" number. If at least one member of the gang did not vote, the "murder" will not take place: the rules of the game of "Mafia" say that the "villains" missed.

The Sheriff wakes up. If he is armed, then he points to the player who needs to be “removed”, if not, he asks to secretly reveal his status. When he finishes his investigation, he falls asleep.

Lone Shooter eliminates his "victim" last. His task in the game is to stay "alive" himself and remove all peaceful citizens. Based on complex tactical considerations, he chooses the player who hinders him the most.

The Doctor opens his eyes last and tries to "save" one player. If this is the "victim" of the Maniac, the Mafia, or the alleged criminal killed by the Commissar, his mission of this night is considered completed.

Second day

The city is waking up. The first "killed" appeared. They must leave the city, but they are given the right of will, the last word. These are the rules of the Mafia game. With maps, things are a little more complicated. Most often they are opened immediately after the "tragedy", but according to the canons of the game, their status should remain secret until the very end.

Criminals are trying to calculate by their behavior. Perhaps someone heard a suspicious rustle at night, someone seems strange too defiant or, on the contrary, quiet demeanor of one of the players. Like the previous day, the fate of the alleged villain is decided by a vote.

Conclusion

All day and night events are repeated until complete victory one of the teams. The civilians have the upper hand if they manage to eliminate all the "mafiosi". The "villains" win if their number is equal to the number of ordinary citizens.

The simple rules of the Mafia game allow you to get involved in the process almost instantly, even for those who have just learned about the existence of this exciting entertainment. Just reading the text, to understand the essence of the game is quite difficult. To understand everything, you must definitely participate in the fun.

Game description

Briefly (classic game)

The facilitator distributes cards face down to the participants in the game.

Those who got the reds make up a team of “honest city dwellers” unfamiliar with each other (the name “civilians” and the abbreviations “chzh”, “mzh” or “gr” are also common). One of the "honest citizens" who received a red ace, a special player - "commissioner".

Players with black cards are the "mafia" team.

The gameplay is divided into two phases - "day" and "night".

When the host announces the night phase in the city, the players close their eyes - they “sleep”. On the first night, the host allows players with black cards - “mafia” - to open their eyes and remember their comrades-in-arms - “get to know each other”. After that, the mafia "falls asleep", and the presenter demands to wake up the commissioner. Thus, the leader becomes aware of the alignment (he finds out who is who).

At the announcement of the phase of the day, all residents wake up. During the day, the players discuss which of them can be "dishonest" - involved in the mafia. At the end of the discussion, the host announces an open vote for landing in prison (in various versions of the game, this process is called a lynching, hanging, murder). The most suspicious resident who scored more votes - goes to jail (leaves the game), and the leader reveals his card and announces the game status.

Then comes the "night" phase. At night, the mafia wakes up, silently (with gestures) “confers” and kills one of the surviving citizens, showing the leader who exactly. The mafia is asleep. The commissioner wakes up and points to one of the residents, whom he wants to "check" for involvement in the mafia. The host still silently, “on the fingers”, shows the commissioner the status of the person being checked.

During the day, the host announces who was killed during the night. This player is out of the game, his card ("status") is shown to all residents.

Information about the events that have taken place is used by the surviving players for discussion and another "condemnation" ... The game continues until the complete victory of one of the teams, when the opponents are completely either planted or killed ...

The essence of the game

Researchers distinguish two types of games: competition (struggle) and performance (masquerade). "Mafia" successfully combines the features of both types. She is both a show and a struggle for survival. Unlike cards, this game has nothing to do with money, unlike golf, it does not require financial costs, unlike football, it is a good game. physical training. Most importantly, it brings much appreciated intellectual pleasure. In the disinterested frivolity of the game, its potential is hidden.

This game is unique. It is based, first of all, on communication, on discussions between participants. Deception and deceit, the conclusion and vile violation of treaties and alliances constantly occur here and are actually legalized. The discussion of the game position takes place through a clash of opinions in incessant disputes, while some players prefer to remain silent, while others, on the contrary, participate in the discussion too actively and noisily. Thus, the game is infinitely far from the impartial duel of intellects characteristic of some board games (for example, chess, go), and this brings it closer to real life. The goal of the game is to survive with your team.

The game consists of two main components: psychological and mathematical.

Mathematical: every “day” players need to remember who voted for whom and who the voted one turned out to be. At important moments, it is easy to determine that the one who voted more often for honest ones is most likely a mafia.

Psychological: Players must have acting skills to convince others of their honesty, as well as a strong gift for enticing others to vote for suspected dishonest players.

The axiom of each move is that there will be fewer living inhabitants, someone will be imprisoned, and someone will be killed. The game is dominated by a paranoid atmosphere, with each move the nervousness worsens. No honest citizen knows exactly who belongs to the opposing team in the game. Every ordinary citizen does not trust anyone and is forced to believe only in himself. Trusting someone else implicitly often means being deceived and dying.

In order to survive, each member of the mafia team has to remain in the shadows, not to pay attention to themselves. special attention surrounding, skillfully dodge, disguised as an honest citizen. The question "Are you really honest?" common. The main attribute of a mafioso is the ability to lie truthfully.

The main quality of an honest citizen that causes respect and praise from others is the ability to recognize a lie in time. There are two main methods for identifying dishonest residents by honest residents.

Analytical. The decision of the player-analyst who sends a resident to jail is based on objective data, that is, on irrefutable facts, such as, for example, self-confessions ("punctures"), explicit accusations of someone in the discussion, voting results.

Intuitive. The decision of the intuitive player is subjective, based on the assumptions and interpretation of the discussion by interpreting verbal statements (including reservations), intonation, facial expressions, gestures. An intuitive, for example, cannot tell a mafia member from a commissar. Intuitive sees only the “glow of status” – a special state of internal superiority that appears in status players (mafiosi, commissar…), outwardly expressed by a disdainful attitude towards ordinary honest residents.

The psychologism and "interestingness" of the game "Mafia" consists in solving the problem of which team will achieve victory. Mafia, where the members of the group, knowing each other, are not inclined to allow voting for the landing of themselves, and which has the opportunity to accurately eliminate a member of the other team every move? Or a team of honest residents who do not know each other, who can only get rid of the mafiosi through a universal vote with the mafia, and often by throwing themselves off?

Rules of the game

Number of players

Optimal: 8-16 people.

Possible: from 2 to 30.

With a small number of players, the game ends quickly, with a large number, due to the general noise and splitting into groups of discussing, it loses its meaning.

You can play with two players, dealing three cards, one of which is face-down. Players either decide which of them is the mafia, or the mafia is a hole card. Then, if they vote for the hole card, and if that card is fair, the mafia won, and if the mafia, the mafia lost. Either one of the players convinces the other that he himself is honest, and the other is a mafia and opens a hole card. If she is mafia, the mafia has won.

The formula for calculating the number of mafia members is: , where is the number of mafiosi, is the total number of players, is the calculated coefficient.

The result of the calculus is rounded modulo to the nearest whole number down.

For playing "live" - in salons (offline, in "real life"), in IRC and chats, it varies from 3 to 4. That is, approximately.

AT network games with a move delay - PBEM and forum options, blog games and in social networks— usually taken higher value for.

For example, in PBEM, the reasons for this are:

Neutralization of "spoons" - this is the name of people who have signed up for the game, but do not enter into game correspondence; usually spawns are taken out of the game by "autokill".

Distribution of statuses

Cards: crumpled unmarked, "honest" - red (tambourines or hearts), "mafia" - black (spades or clubs), "Commissar" - ace of tambourines (hearts), or the king of the same suits.

Possible: any small items two types - coins, plastic eggs from "kinder surprises", pebbles on the beach (by color or cracks), shells ... Example: you can’t give out cards with 6s from a preference deck - it is desirable that the shirts are the same.

The leader carefully shuffles the cards and bypasses everyone else, giving out cards to choose from from cards unfolded like a fan, face down. When receiving a card, it is necessary to look at it unnoticed by the neighbors and put it in your pocket. Possible: After shuffling, the deck is passed around, everyone draws one card and passes it on. Minus - cards can fall. If the cards are crumpled or with a different back, the host may ask the players to close their eyes before dealing, after which the players hide the cards in their pocket or under themselves.

Deal Reactions: Many players, once in the mafia, lose the moment they are dealt if they are being watched. Inexperienced and novice players, getting a mafia card, rejoice - “you don’t need to determine who is honest and who is the mafia - spank everyone in a row.” By their joy, one can understand their mafia affiliation. Experienced players do not show joy, but often have some habits - when they find themselves in the mafia, they begin to: swing in a chair, rub their hands, scratch their heads, take something from the table and start chewing.

First night

The host (usually one of the experienced players) asks if everyone has looked at their cards. Then he commands: "Everyone closed their eyes, the night has come." All players close their eyes. The host says: "The mafia opened its eyes and gets acquainted." Players with black cards (the mafia) open their eyes and begin to look around for sleeping players (other members of the mafia). The host at this time can say: “I count to 5. One, two, three, four, five. Everything. Mafia met and fell asleep. Morning has come. Everyone woke up."

Mafia on the first night: the mafia is required to wake up on the first night to get acquainted. Anyone who does not wake up breaks the rules of the game - further, when discussing during the day, members of the mafia will rely on incorrect data. It is necessary to get acquainted as carefully and silently as possible.

Honest on the first night and beyond: One option (for beginners) is to sit as quietly as possible and listen to who moves where, whether chairs creak, beds, whether someone's neck crackles in search of friends. But this is not a game for the best hearing, it is not forbidden to make noise, move and even talk - explaining: "This is me in a dream ...". In critical situations - there are 1-2 more honest ones - the best option is to sit quietly. It is not forbidden, but it is not customary to hold the neighbors by the hands or close their eyes - the game is not how you can point your knee at someone.

The way the host speaks on the first night is one of the topics of discussion on the first day. Therefore, it is better not to turn your head from side to side and speak at the same time - if you are in the mafia. However, you can always say that he turned his head on purpose.

First day

Players exchange information: about the reaction to the distribution, how the leader led, what was heard at night, how the mood of the players changed during the night. The conversation can proceed in any way: "Only he alone with glasses means the mafia." "She's been moving all night." “Vasya drank tea at night and didn’t spill himself – that means the mafia.” “The host at night said - and the mafia is 3, but I thought 4.” Both honest and mafia, to convince others that they are right, they can use honest and dishonest arguments, both true and false information. On the first day, novice players are easily seated - mafiosi, who were delighted at the distribution or uncomfortable at night and forced to get acquainted noisily. Experienced players, once in the mafia together, after the first night sometimes start laughing merrily, hoping to win easily - this brings them down. They often kill on the first day with a single impulse: an experienced player keeps his hand raised for someone for a long time, persuading everyone to kill this comrade.

Vote. Voting is a process when live players raise their hands for landing someone and hold them for a while (from 5 seconds or more). If a player is imprisoned - more than half of the players held hands for him for more than 5 seconds, he does not have any "last word". If his exclamations convince some of the players to give up, then he may say “the last word”, or maybe not. The "last word" is not part of the game, it is one of the ways in the discussion process to save one's life. After voting, the player opens his card, any discussion ends, the players try to remember who voted for and against. If the player is honest, then those who imprisoned him are under suspicion, if they are mafiosi, then those who did not vote are suspected.

Subsequent events

Night. The host announces: “Everyone fell asleep. The mafia woke up and chooses a victim. At this time, mafia players confer with their eyes and show, for example, with a finger, whom to kill. Or the host shows in turn at the sleeping ones, and the mafia waves its head in the affirmative. The mafia tries to kill the most experienced players who can figure out its members, or those who are very convincing excuses and who are hard to plant during the day, those who expressed suspicions about the mafia the previous day. However, for interesting game in an equal composition, they usually don’t kill experienced players - this is what novice mafiosi do, so it’s easy to figure them out later. The one who expressed suspicions is not always killed - before night they say: “Well, that's it. I figured out the mafia - it's you, you and you. Now I'm going to be killed tonight." That's why they let him live. The best option is to kill the commissioner. It is also possible to kill a member of the mafia (usually in a non-critical situation) when everyone is sure that he belongs to the mafia team, and he will definitely be killed during the day. The host at night tries not to talk, all the time watching the mafia so as not to give it away. The player is considered killed at night if all members of the mafia agree. At night, the mafia is obliged to agree on who they actually take out of the game with their shot.

Morning. The host announces: “The mafia has chosen its victim. The mafia fell asleep. The Commissioner woke up. The commissioner wakes up and chooses who to check. You can check only one player. The commissioner points to someone. The host silently nods: “Yes, the mafia,” or shakes his head: “No, honest.” If the commissioner is killed that night, even before checking him, the host shows crossed arms - this means that the commissioner is killed, but the commissioner still has the right to check one player. If the commissioner points at the player, and he has just been killed, then the leader also shows crossed arms - the “corpse” cannot be honest or mafia. The commissioner checks the players who cause him the greatest suspicion, or who are absolutely honest, so that it is clear who to rely on when discussing. If the game is played with an out-of-team maniac who plays personally for himself, then when asked by the commissioner, the host twirls his finger at the temple, showing that the player being tested is a “maniac” (and not the commissioner is an idiot).

Day. The host says: “The commissioner checked. I found out everything. Asleep. Everyone woke up. And only Petya did not wake up. And Petya was an honest citizen…” The card of the murdered man is revealed. If the commissioner is killed during the day, then the leader skips the commissioner's morning. On the second and all subsequent days, there is a huge amount of information: who voted for whom and when, what happened and who was killed at night, who behaved like, who was checked by the commissioner, how many mafiosi remained. Players try to make chains: “If Misha is in the mafia, then who else? Masha and Vanya. Everyone makes their list of suspects. Voting takes place when the players do not get half the votes. Voting lists are compiled (oral) - such as: “Alla, Petya, Vanya were proposed. We vote for Alla.

Game situations

The commissar, who decides to “reveal” to honest residents without revealing his card (usually explicit opening of cards by live players is prohibited), announces - “I checked Kolya at night, and he turned out to be a mafia. Who is for Kolya? If such a “appearance of Christ to the people” is critical for the survival of the mafia, then one of the members of the mafia often decides to “false commissar”, says “Ha! Commissioner however here I am! And I checked the honest resident Yulia! It is convenient for the mafia to report that their fake commissioner checked all those subsequently killed. Also, sometimes, after a night, a simple honest one says so, if in front of him a real commissar whispers in his ear all the information he has, and then he is killed.

With an even number of players (in some versions of the game), the corpse has a "half-voice". But he has the right to vote only if the number of honest residents and the mafia is equal - that is, in critical situations. At the same time, he can raise his hand only at the time of voting and does not have the right to take part in the discussion. In order to find out the opinion of the “half-corpse”, if it is not possible to get half the votes, and the honest ones are confident in the knowledge of the half-corpse, the living players vote for all the living ones in turn, raising exactly 1 hand less than the required amount. If suddenly someone raises an extra hand, honest players immediately lower their hands and the main suspicion falls on the one who raised his hand.

You can’t name your card, like “I have 6 diamonds again.” The game is not about determining the card, but about honesty or mafia. If an inexperienced player, or an experienced one, says so, someone who has the same card should immediately be found.

When playing, most often the same people get mafia or fair cards, and it also often happens that during several games the commissioner is the same person. Therefore, a player who refers to the theory of probability most often belongs to the mafia.

Experienced players often break into pairs - on the very first day they begin to accuse each other of mafia and urge to vote for “well, an obvious maf!”, But at the same time they themselves do not vote. In the following days, the accusations usually stop.

"The corpses are silent." Killed players do not have the right to speak during the discussion, give out any information to the living and in any way influence the course of the game: “Well, it’s still clear. Hurry up". Follows the calmness of the dead and imprisoned leader.

"Honest but stupid." For experienced player(honest) inexperienced and honest is often more dangerous than the mafia, because they rarely give in to persuasion and vote randomly, or according to the principle: “He didn’t give me a chocolate bar just now.” Therefore, it also makes sense to vote for such people during the day. There are also "quiet" honest (usually girls), pacifist inclinations, who do not vote for anyone, even being involved in a mafia group. They also need to be killed early, as they can't be identified, and not voting often slows the game down a lot. There are also “noisy” honest ones who, having made sure that someone is a mafia, no longer change their minds until their own or his death, convincing others of this. There are “touchy” honest ones who say - “again me, and what is this again? Vasya, you are an idiot. I won’t play with you anymore ... ”sometimes while being in the ranks of the mafia. You can't play like that.

Tactics in the game

"Honesty"

"Gang of siskins" (used mainly in chats and IRC).

This tactic consists in the fact that a group of honest residents is formed against the mafia (on gaming slang, “siskins”) who know the commissioner (sometimes also a doctor and a maniac). As a rule, her education begins with the commissioner checking one "siskin", to whom he calls himself. Combining into a gang allows the "sissies" to drastically reduce the mafia's ability to destroy citizens by daytime voting. If the mafia is revealed at night, one of the "chis" starts a vote against him during the day, which is supported by all the others. One of the members of the mafia, posing as a commissioner, can also form a gang of "sissies". After a nightly check of an accomplice, he tells one of the other participants that he is a maf, and he, respectively, is a commissioner. After a unanimous vote for an accomplice (who, of course, turns out to be a mafia), the victim of deception usually has no doubt that the commissioner is the one who pointed out the "mafia" to him. The real commissar is forced to create a parallel gang and check at night those whom the trustee of his choice points to - in order to prove that he is a real commissar. In addition to creating a gang with a false commissioner, the main tactic of the mafia against the "sissies" is not the destruction of the "sissies" themselves (players verified by the commissioner), but the search for a commissioner. If the mafia manages to kill him at night, then the chances of the "chisps" to win fall sharply, only if the game has not gone so far that there are already a lot of "chisps" and they can destroy all the "suspicious" (unverified) citizens during the day.

"Shout" (applies only to PBEM)

An honest citizen killed or imprisoned on the first move becomes a "mouthpiece" - a link (between the commissar with assistants and unverified citizens) and advisory (between the commissar, his assistants and verified honest residents) link. In the morning, the mouthpiece sets the tone for the discussion, asking the citizens for candidates for possible mafiosi and / or offering to speak on someone, and in the evening summarizes the opinion of the city and, after consultations with the commissioner, gives the city a recommendation (“order”) for landing.

"Setup"

It is used by the mafia and consists in deliberately voting against one of the partners, or performing any other intentional actions that contribute to the disclosure of his role. This tactic is undertaken in order to avert suspicion from the framing members of the mafia at the expense of the substituted. AT classic version represents a vote against an accomplice who was not checked, and further appeals to the community that the mafia does not reveal theirs.

"False commission"

It consists in the fact that one of the honest residents at the beginning of the game appears to the city as a commissar, posing himself as a mafia shot, but protecting the real commissar, giving him the right to live and check at least an extra day.

"Spoonboy"

The practice of relegating silent players (“spoons”) not only pushes players to more active game, but also does not allow status players to keep quiet.

Rule number one: The host is always right.

Plot

A mafia appears in a peaceful city, and honest residents can no longer sleep peacefully: they need to figure out who is who and expel the entire mafia in order to escape. If they fail to do so, the mafia will take over the city and the civilians will be doomed.

Game progress

The game is divided into two periods: day and night. In the daytime discussion - mafia calculation - all players participate, and at night everyone “falls asleep” (puts on masks). At the command of the host, individual characters “wake up” at night and perform their role functions. Roles are distributed using cards that are dealt at the beginning of the game. There are many roles, as well as the rules of the Mafia - in each case, the host will help to understand them.

When the night ends, the daytime discussion begins: civilians try to figure out who the mafia is, and the mafia poses as honest citizens and carefully persuades the city to vote against the innocent. In the discussion, provocations, intuition, logical arguments and other techniques can be used to reveal the true intentions of the interlocutor. The more active the discussion, the more chances civilians have to expose the criminals and save the city.

Main deck

Black camp (mafia)

Mafia

The goal of the mafia is to exterminate all civilians, or at least remain with them in equal numbers. During the day, the mafia pretends to be honest citizens, and at night the mafiosi wake up cautiously and together choose a victim to “shoot”. Representatives of the mafia can only communicate with gestures so that other players do not hear them. Representatives of the mafia show the number of the chosen victim to the host and fall asleep again.

Money-mani-mani-mani everyone goes to the "godmother"

mafia don

It fulfills two purposes: firstly, it makes the final decision if the mafia cannot come to an agreement in the process of choosing a victim, and, secondly, it wakes up separately from its charges and tries to figure out the commissioner - the leader of civilians. Every night, the don points out to the host the player he considers the commissioner, and receives either a negative or a positive response. If the don figures out the commissioner, he tries to convince the city to expel this player during the day, or shoots him the next night along with the mafia.

Red camp (peaceful city)

Civilians

They are in the majority, but they don't know who is who. At night, peaceful citizens do not wake up, they only participate in the daytime discussion, trying to figure out the mafia.

Isn't that casting?

commissioner

Authorized representative of a peaceful city. He wakes up in his turn and checks any player for belonging to the mafia. The commissioner does not shoot, he can only get an answer from the leader whether this or that player is a mafia. If the commissioner calculates the mafia, during the day he needs to convince the city to expel this player without betraying his role.

Doctor

Has the ability to heal the inhabitants of the city. Every night, the doctor tries to guess who the mafia was shooting at, and points this player to the host. If the doctor guessed right and "cured" the victim of the mafia, the city wakes up without loss (or with less loss).

The Doctor cannot heal the same player two nights in a row. The doctor can only heal himself once per game.

5 more minutes and my shift is over

In addition to the black and red camps, there is also a gray camp - these are characters that play for themselves.

Gray camp

Maniac

His goal is to be left alone with a civilian. Maniac wakes up at night and chooses a victim. It can be any character: a civilian, a mafia or another representative of the gray camp. The maniac has two features: the doctor cannot cure his victim, and if the commissar checks the maniac, the host answers him that he is a civilian.

I've been sharpening my teeth on him for a long time.

Additional deck

Black camp (mafia)

Mistress

Wakes up twice at night: the first - as part of the mafia to choose a victim; the second - separately, in order to "block" someone. The mistress randomly points to one of the players, and if he has an active role (for example, a doctor, a maniac, a journalist), he will not be able to play it that night. The doctor will not be able to treat, the maniac - to shoot, the journalist - to arrange checks. The main goal of the mistress is to hit the commissioner, doctor or other representative of the red camp in order to undermine their activity against the mafia. Also, like the doctor, the mistress cannot point to the same player two nights in a row.

In the children's Mafia, the role is introduced with the consent of the parents, or is replaced by another character.

Nothing personal, just love

Red camp (peaceful city)

Sheriff

Armed representative of a peaceful city. At night, the sheriff wakes up and randomly shoots one of the players. The goal of the sheriff is to get into the mafia, maniac or other opponent of the red camp. If the sheriff hits a civilian, the next morning he leaves the game just like a victim of the mafia or a maniac.

Justice is for everyone

Journalist

Wakes up at night and checks any two players for belonging to the same or different camps. The journalist shows the presenter two numbers, and he answers him with gestures, in one or in different teams the selected players are located. In this case, the color of the teams is not called. For example, if a journalist pointed to a doctor and a mafia don, the presenter will answer that they belong to different camps. If on the commissioner and the civilian - that to one. Representatives of the gray camp will always be in different teams with other characters.

Who's next for the interview?

Sleepwalker

Spy of a peaceful city. Plays for the red camp, but at the same time wakes up at night with the mafia. The purpose of the lunatic is to carefully convey information to civilians about who the mafia is, and at the same time not to give himself away.

Advocate

Wakes up at night and provides an "alibi" to one of the players. Whoever the lawyer points to gets immunity in the afternoon vote. For example, if at night the lawyer pointed to a maniac, and during the day the majority voted against this player, the host announces that the execution will not take place, since the player has immunity. The host reveals this information only after voting. As a result, the character remains in the game, and the city goes into the night without performing a daytime execution.

A lawyer cannot defend the same player two nights in a row and cannot provide an alibi for himself.

Gray camp (characters who play for themselves)

Werewolf

First, he acts on the side of a peaceful camp: he calculates the mafia and is active only during the day. But as soon as the entire mafia leaves the city, the werewolf takes its place and begins to wake up at night to exterminate civilians. The werewolf wins if he is left alone with the peaceful one.

Jora, is that you?

Student

Plays for civilians until any shooting role (representative of the mafia clan, sheriff or maniac) leaves the city. As soon as the first shooting character leaves the game, the student takes his place and takes over all the role-playing functions of the “teacher”. The student wins as part of the camp to which he defected.

Survival Exam

Mirror

Wakes up last and points to any player. If the mirror was shot that night (no matter who it was, and how many shots were fired), then the bullet "leaves" to the player chosen by the mirror. If the mirror was not attacked, or the doctor cured it, then for the player it points to, the mirror is not dangerous. As well as other active roles, the mirror can be blocked by a mistress. In this case, the mirror will not be able to redirect the blow. The mirror wins if it is left alone with the shooting role.

The role of the leader in the game

The facilitator not only explains how to play Mafia, but also models the course of the game, monitors the development of the plot and discipline, which is an important component gameplay. For example, during the personal statements of each player, the other participants should not break the silence or actively gesticulate.

In addition, it is the host who lays the foundation for the “city” you want to live in and ensures your smooth immersion in the atmosphere of the game. Leading Mafias in St. Petersburg and Moscow are at your service.

The game "Mafia" is striking in its complexity and simplicity at the same time, perhaps that is why it is so popular among young people. All you need to play is a deck of cards and a company of at least 10 people + a host. Of the necessary skills - logic, memory, ingenuity, strategy and artistry. However, even if you do not possess these qualities, you can still become a participant in an exciting process.

How to play mafia?

First, let's look at the classic characters of the game:

  • honest residents - trying to figure out the mafia;
  • mafia - seeks to kill honest residents;
  • Don is the head of the mafia;
  • commissioner - wakes up at night and checks one of the players: is he a mafia or not.

Additional roles:

  • maniac - plays for himself, every night he kills one of the inhabitants of the city. Wins if there is one left;
  • the doctor is the last to wake up at night. Heals one of the inhabitants of the city, i.е. even if the mafia or a maniac killed him, he remains in the game;
  • werewolf - the role is very ambiguous. While the mafia is alive, he sits in hiding, As soon as all the members of the mafia are killed, the werewolf just takes over its functions;
  • the undertaker is essentially a civilian, however, if he is killed, he takes another player with him.

There can be as many additional roles as you like - it all depends on the imagination of the participants themselves and the number of players.

Game description

Per game table seated 10 people. The host announces "night" and all players "fall asleep" - close their eyes or put on masks, if any. After that, each participant in turn opens his eyes, chooses a card, memorizes it and puts it in front of him. In some games, cards are dealt "in the afternoon" - this gives participants the opportunity to follow the reaction of the players after they see their role.

The number of cards in the deck is equal to the number of participants. If 10 people play, then there are 10 cards in the deck, respectively: 7 red (honest residents) and 3 black (mafia). Sometimes among the blacks there is a card of the head of the mafia - Don.

Further, the host announces: "The mafia is waking up." Players who got black cards wake up, get to know each other, fall asleep. The morning comes and the discussion begins. Each of the players has the right to express their opinion about who is the mafia and why. After several candidates are nominated, the voting begins. The one for whom the most votes are given is considered killed: he reveals his card, indicating the role, and leaves the game table.

On the second and subsequent nights, the mafia wakes up, confers and shows the host who she decided to kill. After she fell asleep, the commissioner wakes up and looks for the mafia: in one night he can check one player. The commissioner points to the suspect to the host, who gives an answer: is this person a mafia or not.

After that, the city wakes up, the host points out who was killed at night and the discussion begins again: everyone expresses their guesses, looking at the behavior of others. Anything can arouse suspicion: your smile, too active blaming others, or vice versa, too quiet behavior. Any movement at night during the action of a particular role can also arouse suspicion, so try to kill / check at night as little as possible so as not to be noticed by a neighbor.

After discussion, nominations for voting are put forward. Usually, before making a decision, the defendants are given a minute to justify themselves. During this time, you need to convince everyone else that you are not a mafia and act solely for the good of the city. Or you can not make excuses at all - this is your right.

So, it turns out just to play the game "Mafia". But this is not the most important thing. As many players note, it is interesting how much not to “kill all the mafiosi”, but the process itself. After all, "Mafia" is a competition and a performance at the same time: wishing to win, the participants confidently, and sometimes not very much, go towards their goal. At the same time, they do not refuse very dubious methods: set-ups, contracts, their violation, clash of opinions between participants, artistic “I'm not a mafia, are you crazy!” - to explain the feelings experienced during the game is not possible. Therefore, it is better to play once than hear a hundred times how to play the mafia game or read about an exciting intellectual game in which only a team can win.

The psychological game "Mafia" is loved by almost all teenagers and some adults. She is one of the best pastimes for big company from 7 to 15 people. In addition, this fun contributes to the socialization and adaptation of children in the team, so it is very often used in schools, camps and other children's institutions.

In this article, we will provide a list of all the characters that are present in the cards, and tell you the basic rules of this exciting fun.

What characters are in the "Mafia"?

Initially, we give a list of all the characters of the "Mafia" and their capabilities:

  1. civilian- the role that most of the players get. In fact, this category has no rights, except for voting. At night, civilians sleep soundly, and during the day they wake up and try to find out which of the inhabitants belongs to the mafia clan.
  2. Commissioner, or policeman,- a civilian who fights evil and tries to expose the mafia. During the day, he participates in voting along with other players, and at night he wakes up and finds out the status of one of the residents.
  3. Mafiosi- members of a group that kills civilians at night. The task of the guys performing this role is to destroy the commissar and other civilians as quickly as possible, but at the same time not to give themselves away.
  4. Doctor- a person who has the right to save civilians. During the day, he needs to predict which of the players the mafia is trying to kill, and at night to help the selected resident. At the same time, the doctor cannot treat the same person for two nights in a row, and once in the entire game, he can save himself from death.
  5. Mistress- a resident who spends the night with the selected player and thereby provides him with an alibi. For 2 nights in a row, a mistress cannot visit the same resident.
  6. Maniac. The goal of this player is to exterminate all members of the mafia clan. For this, he is given as many opportunities as there are mafia roles in the game. A maniac can mercilessly kill both the bad and good character, so he should choose his victim very carefully.
Mafia game rules with all characters

At the start of the game, each player is randomly given one card to determine their role in the game. If a special deck is used to play Mafia, the characters are immediately indicated on the cards. Otherwise, before starting, you should agree on what value each of them has.

During the day, players get to know each other without revealing their roles and without showing their cards to anyone. When the host announces that the night has come, all the guys close their eyes or put on special masks. Further, at the command of the host, certain characters wake up. In most cases, the mafia enters the game first, and then all the additional characters.

Each player, while awake, chooses the participant whom he will heal, check or kill. At the same time, members of the mafia clan do this by agreement.

In the morning, the host announces what happened at night, after which the voting begins. According to the number of charges, several suspects are selected, one of whom is executed as a result. This player is eliminated from the game after showing everyone his card.

So, day by day, the number of participants is constantly decreasing. As a result, the team of civilians or the mafia wins, depending on who managed to achieve the goal.
