Main and supporting characters in Final Fantasy XV. Final Fantasy: who is the best character of each part? Relationships between characters

Who is the best among such a huge number of epic characters?

Franchise final fantasy celebrated its 30th anniversary last year. During this time, the number of released games in which this title appeared has approached hundreds, thanks also to the development mobile games. In addition, the creators also made occasional forays into the worlds of cinema, anime, and other media.

However, the "main" series contains 15 parts, some of which have been supplemented by prequels and sequels. With the exception of XI and XIV, which were massively multiplayer games, the heart of every other installment was a story that unfolded for dozens of hours and contained a huge number of different characters both loved and hated.

Over the next few pages, we'll take a look at each game in turn, picking one character in each that stands out from the rest and is the best.

Do you agree? Not? Comments are open to suggestions. Only be careful as there will be spoilers for each game.

Few could have predicted the success that would come when the original Final Fantasy cartridge was released in 1987. Since then, the game has been remastered and re-released several times, but these revisions have never affected the characters.

Players take control of four "Warriors of Light" by choosing names and character classes. From this point until the end of the game, these heroes have no meaning to the story (despite the fact that they control it), and their personalities and motivations are open to interpretation.

As a result, when it comes to picking the "best" character in the game, there isn't much choice. In this part, the favorite of the series, Bahamut, appears for the first time, but, in fact, he is only here to improve the classes of the aforementioned characters, and Matoya is needed mainly to give quests.

The main villain, Garland, who is quickly dealt with when he appears as the game's first boss, returns again as the master of four demons and takes up the bulk of the remaining game time. His complex and amazingly sophisticated (at least for a 1987 game) grand plan allows him to stand out from his followers, and defeating him seems like a real achievement.

Thankfully, Final Fantasy II has moved away from its predecessor's superficial characters by weaving its characters' personal stories into the narrative. However, the trinity, which includes Firion, Maria and Guy, is far from inspiring creatures.

Some characters that become the fourth team members during quests are much more interesting. For example, Gordon is a self-hating coward who fights his demons to lead a rebellion against the Evil Empire, and Leon is Maria's brother who has switched to dark side, and it is not known whether he fully accepts the philosophy of the Emperor or not.

Minwoo stands above all of them, becoming your team's first companion and dying heroically (as many characters do, adding to the dark elements of the franchise) by giving his life so your characters can access higher magic.

He and the three other characters who die during the course of the game were made famous in the Soul Of Rebirth expansion that accompanied nearly every remake of the game. They played a leading role in this expansion as they complemented the efforts of their living counterparts by drawing on the light side of the enigmatic Emperor.

Final Fantasy III is very strange for a Final Fantasy game. She wasn't even available English language until the DS version came out sixteen years later. This recreated the game from the ground up and strengthened the story, which was a welcome addition given that original version returned to Final Fantasy I and the four unnamed Warriors of Light.

With the exception of the opening sequence, Lunette, Ark, Refia, and Ingus do very little, simply following in the footsteps of their predecessors and watching the various subplots (Aria's self-sacrifice and the Alus/Gorn situation) unfold without much personal involvement.

Due to the lack of choice, we are once again forced to turn our attention to the amazingly complex villain of the game - Xanda. Because he was rewarded with "mortality" by his master, much of the game revolves around his convoluted plan to bring back the eternal life he previously enjoyed by freezing the passage of time.

Although at the last minute it turned out to be in the service of a powerful villain (like Zemus/Zeromus from IV and Kuja/Nekron from IX), Xanda is nothing without his immortality. As a result, he dies, but his actions can be considered a highlight in this unimpressive game.

11. IV – Cecil

The main characters are often somewhat boring, especially in the fantasy genre, where they are often too flawless" good guys”, driven exclusively by a just cause. The hero of Final Fantasy IV, on the other hand, is on the side of darkness at the beginning of the game, figuring out the role he plays in the despotic kingdom of the Baron.

The first third of the game is built on his transformation from "dark knight" to "paladin", and the moment of transformation is depicted simply brilliantly. From this point on, Cecil's relationship with Cain and Golbez plays an important role, although each character has a story (most of them die because the game was very dark) in this excellently written narrative.

The second and third parts of the game talk about the differences between Cecil and his former brother in arms (Cain), as well as his brother in blood (Golbez). The revelation about his relationship with the latter is one of the series' most disappointing moments because it wasn't well thought out, but it still made Final Fantasy IV the first really great installment in the franchise.

Recent re-releases have expanded IV's story and featured Cecil as Ceodore's father, a welcome addition that cements him as the series' best protagonist.

10.V - Gilgamesh

Final Fantasy V is one of the more forgettable games in the series, and contained some memorabilia that hindered the development of the system previously present in III. All this is crowned by the fact that the main four, consisting of Bartz, Farisa, Galuf (later Krill) and Lenna, do practically nothing. In such a situation, the villainous Exdeath feels much better given that he is carrying out a great plan in the name of evil.

However, the secondary antagonist makes up for them all, given that he drags himself into every scene he's in. Hilariously written (who else would come up with the line "Enough of a revealing joke! Now we'll fight like men! And ladies! And ladies dressed like men") with an epic musical score (Clash On The Big Bridge) upon loading, Gilgamesh was the first minor villain to outshine his masters.

A testament to the character's legacy is that he appears in almost every subsequent game. In Part VIII, he can be summoned, in Part IX he appears as a treasure hunter, revealing his essence only to those players who collect each treasure chest, while in later parts he is an optional boss. He always retains his appearance, connecting all games into one universe.

9. VI - Celes

Games often attract a sea of criticism for what they portray female characters exceptionally cute. The Final Fantasy series is often blamed for this, but it was the first to introduce strong female protagonists in Final Fantasy VI.

The amazing playing ensemble consisted of three members who favorably differed from the other main characters. The reason for this was that two of them were women - the amnesiac Terra and the Imperial defector Celes - who pushed the venerable "treasure hunter" (thief) Locke from the leading positions.

Celes' suicide attempt is so impressive (I put it on FF's 150 Greatest Moments years ago) that the black screen that lights up for a moment hints that Kefka won and the game ended on a grim note. The fact that the sight of Locke's bandana on a bird keeps it alive after surviving is very powerful (even though the game never properly hinted at their relationship, which was a big mistake). It was he who opened the way for her to play a leading role in the post-apocalyptic World of Ruin.

Long before that, she stars in the series' most famous episode, the Opera. No more words are needed here.

In a game with such a huge number of great characters (Edgar and Sabin, the devilish Kefka, the cheerful Ultros and others), it's not easy to stand out among them.

8.VII - Reno & Rude

It would be easiest to place Cloud or Sephiroth under this heading, given that one of them always seems to lose to Link in GameFAQs' Character Battle final voting. However, at Final Fantasy VII always looked through rose-colored glasses, and in a controversial opinion, both of these heroes are very overrated. Sephiroth's grand plan is almost exactly the same as Kefka's, and Cloud isn't a special protagonist either.

However, they inhabit a wonderfully crafted narrative populated by a vast array of fantastical characters: Vincent the mysterious outsider, Aerith the innocence itself, Sid the a common person(and the wonderful sounds he made will be missed when they are removed from the remake) and Rufus is a villain far more realistic than many of his predecessors.

Rufus's two Turks, Reno and Rude, are considered one of the best duos to ever grace the screen. Despite the fact that they are very different, together they are very cool. It's even hard to imagine them as villains after we witness scenes of them talking awkwardly about girls and refusing to fight because they have the day off. And how Rude, being shocked by the breakage of his glasses, takes out others of the same kind from his pocket. It's really impressive.

If there can be valid criticism of VIII, it is because game characters, with the exception of Squall and Rinoa, are completely undeveloped. Zell, Selfi, Quistis, Irwin are empty shells from start to finish. Luckily, Squall's development from a stoic loner who doesn't care about anything to a hero who goes to the ends of the earth (and into space) for the woman he loves is amazing and makes up for all the shortcomings.

Perhaps the most prominent was the "third wheel" in their relationship - Seifer. The main theme of the game is that he and Squall are two sides of the same coin, they have mirror-like scars, black and white jackets, and the story progresses through the different paths they take.

Seifer's transformation into a villain is something that clearly torments him, and it's hard not to feel remorse as his misguided but noble intentions are manipulated by the forgettable Ultimecia. His absence is very much felt, given that the interactions between him and Squall are the highlights of the game. So it's worth considering, maybe it was necessary to give him redemption and the opportunity to continue participating in the plot.

6.IX - Vivi

Final Fantasy IX did an outstanding job on almost all of the main characters, both playable and non-playable. Each of them has a well-defined story, and although some of them (Freya and Fratley's relationship, Amaranth) were written before, the storytelling was one of the best, if not the best in the series.

At the end of the game, when everyone came together to witness the return of Zidane and express their love for Garnet, all players immediately noticed that one character was missing - Vivi.

The black magician is the heart of the story, and his coming to terms with the idea that he was created as a weapon of war, and after a short life must die, is truly heartbreaking. However, this sadness did not break him.

The aforementioned ending goes from triumphant to tragic when you realize that Vivi has died by this point, when a monologue is read in which he says goodbye to each of his friends and thanks for the training, experience and companionship. The appearance of his children and the chance meeting with Puck (Vivi meets him for the first time at the beginning of the game) is a great way to end the game.

There have been very few people who haven't been drawn to Auron since his first appearance in the opening episode of Final Fantasy X, where he watches with equanimity as the city of Zaparkand is consumed by the dreaded Sin. Musical accompaniment in the heavy metal genre, incredible graphics (for the time) and a mysterious atmosphere combined to reveal this character. As a result, players were looking forward to seeing him after he disappeared.

His second appearance is said to be one of the defining moments, as he effortlessly slays some horrific looking demons to join the lead character Tidus and his new summoner Yuna.

X is entirely the story of Tidus and Yuna, but you can feel that Auron knows more than he seems. His subtle sarcastic remarks about, for example, Seymour (another awesome villain) are amazingly predictive of what's to come. In addition, as the story progresses, it turns out that he is an unsent soul with a bunch of secrets. The revelation of the circumstances of his death has a major impact on the main characters.

His disappearance was not shown, but he is mentioned in the sequel despite not being physically present in it.

Final Fantasy XII seems to have never caused much love. Its combat system and politicized storyline are underrated, but three major flaws are hard to ignore. The first disadvantage is that Vaan is the weakest main character series to date. Designed like Tidus, he plays almost no role.

The second drawback is that Vine - the villain of the game - is one of the worst villains in the franchise's list. His interactions with the team can be counted on the fingers of one hand, and the players are never given any specific reason to hate him.

The third drawback is the lack love story. Not every game had it, but the ones that do (IV and VI through X) are significantly more famous. Ashelia could easily be the best character in the game if her only romantic attraction wasn't killed off in the opening scene and her revenge on the empire wasn't so uninspiring.

All this makes Balthier a self-proclaimed "protagonist" who fits perfectly into the archetype of a dashing hunter. His strong connection to Fran and dark past with the Archadians and his father makes him an interesting character that only Basch and his brother Gabranth can rival.

3. XIII - Serah

Final Fantasy XIII has never created a buzz around itself, even after the release of Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Lightning Returns. The overall story of this trilogy is one of complete chaos, and this incoherence means that big choice the stories and characters present in this piece tend to be forgotten.

Lightning is a weak leader who is essentially a Squall in a skirt, only she hasn't had events in her life that would turn her into a battle-hardened hero. Yes, she ultimately defeats God, but her relationship with her sister Serah is little explored, despite the fact that the goal of the game is Lightning and Snow's joint desire to save her.

On the one hand, it seems that Sera is nothing more than a teenage stereotype and a MacGuffin. But as the main character of XIII-2, she has become a much more believable and human figure than her sister.

The fact that it took three games to chaotically tell a story that could have been condensed into one characterizes Square-Enix when it comes to writing stories in recent years. Serah's lightheartedness makes her journey with Noel and conflicts with Caias enjoyable, which is often not the case with Lightning's travels in the first two games.

2. XV - Ignis

Final Fantasy XV is definitely one of the best parts of the series. It's unfortunate that it took over a year of content updates and story gimmick production to see the game rise to these heights, and the vast majority of players who lambasted it upon release will be unaware of the development that completed what initially seemed unfinished.

At first glance, each character from the main four is a walking stereotype. Noctis is headstrong, Prompto is carefree and annoying, Gladio is muscular, and Ignis is straightforward. However, their journey cements their brotherhood, and the final silent campfire scene that took place before their self-sacrifice is one of the most bitter moments in Final Fantasy history.

Ignis is unwaveringly loyal to Noctis, and this is most evident in the episode where he is willing to give up his life in an instant to spare the life of his comrade. Ultimately, it costs him his eyes, but accepting his blindness is one of the best moments leading up to the finale.

Among other things, the impression of Ignis is enhanced by his British accent, which always gives him authority. Special mention is also his culinary skills, worthy of memes.

We included this part even though it's not a "core" part of the series because Tactics is one of the most criminally underrated games of all time thanks to its epic story that includes war, religion, politics, manipulation and all sorts of other plot elements. . While complexity may be one of its downsides, and not being widely known means a number of great characters are often missing from lists like this one.

Among the heroes there are a number of fantastic villains: Delita, best friend childhood main character Ramza, throughout the story becomes an ally, then an enemy, manipulating everyone to ensure his own growth. At the same time, Gaffgarion's early betrayal sets the tone for a game where you never know who you can trust.

Wiegraf stands out above all these characters given his tragedy. He began with the noble intention of overthrowing the oppressive class world system and placing power in the hands of the people, but the death of his sister forced him to turn to the dark side. It was then that he met several times with Ramza.

It's heartbreaking to see him in his demonic form when his humanity was destroyed and hear him say he doesn't care about his sister and noble deeds. All he wants now is to bring death to the world.

It would be great if there were more such controversial and well-written villains...

Zell Dinch is a seventeen-year-old student of Balamb Garden and later SeeD. Zell grew up in the same orphanage as the other main characters in which he was constantly the target of chicanery. One day he was adopted by the Dinch family of Balamba. He idealizes his adoptive grandfather, who was a legendary soldier. Dreaming of following in his footsteps, Zell entered Balamb Garden at the age of 13 to become a SeeD and follow his dream of becoming like his grandfather.

Zell meets Squall before the SeeD exams, as they are both placed in Squad B, led by Cypher. Zell successfully passes the exam and becomes a SeeD. Along with Squamm and Selphie, Zell goes on a mission to the Timber. After the sorceress interferes with the task, the group is ordered to go to Deling to kill Edea. Zell assists the group during the mission as part of the "gate team" along with and , while Squall and , a student from Galbadia Gardens who specializes in guns, are part of the "sniper team". Although Zell succeeds in his task of trapping the sorceress between the gates of the bridge, the mission itself fails and the entire group, except for Irwin and , is captured. Zell and the others are sent to the county jail, which Zell recognizes as the place where he worked when he was demobilized from the Galbadian army. Zell had dreams about him thanks to Elona, a girl with the unique ability to send someone's consciousness back in time and relive episodes from another person's life. In the case of Zell, these were usually episodes from Ward's life. When Zell realizes this, the group tries to escape. Since Zell is the only one capable of fighting unarmed, he decides to return the weapons the guards took to the group, and then, using his knowledge of the prison, he tries to lead the group through the prison to find Squall and subsequently escape the prison. They soon learn that under the command of the sorceress Edea, the nearby Galbadian Missile Base has attacked Trabia Garden and is planning to fire missiles at Balamb Garden. The group decides to split into two subgroups and one team goes to the Missile Base to try and stop the missiles, while the other team alerts the Balamb Garden of the impending attack. Some time later, after the Balamb Garden becomes mobile and the Rocket Base is destroyed, the two teams reunite in the city of Fishermans Horizon.

Zell's design was created with the intent that it should look and act like main character shonen manga (Japanese comics designed mainly for male teenagers).

Hi all. The Gamebizclub team is in touch, and we continue to talk about the new part of Final Fantasy, the official release of which is scheduled for the end of September this year. The continuation of the epic saga, which has been under development since 2006, is already close, so we decided to jump ahead a bit and tell about the heroes of the game.

Characters in Final Fantasy XV play a major role - they fight, cut through beautiful places in a sports car, communicate and complete tasks. In , published a few days ago, we talked about the gameplay and the plot of the game, and today we will introduce you to the key characters.

From this article you will learn:

Characters

  • The main characters, five inseparable friends - Noctis, Ignis, Gladiolus, Prompto, Cor.
  • Supporting characters - Lunafreya, Gentiana, Regis, Idola and others.
  • The unnamed characters that were shown in the trailer, however, their actions and role in storyline have not yet been disclosed by the developers.

You can get to know some of the characters by watching Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, released this year. There you will meet Prince Noctis and learn the backstory of the game. Now watch the trailer for this movie.

heir to the throne

The protagonist of the game Noctis Lucis Caelum is the prince of the kingdom of Lucis. His family, the Tselum, owned and protected the only magic crystal that was the last in the world. The young man was next to him for a long time and gained a special power - he owns magic, several types of edged weapons and the ability to teleport to them.

His character is strong, but not that calm, but rather cold. But despite this, great responsibility sometimes adds to his nervousness, because of which he acts sharply and emotionally.

Faithful Assistant

A longtime friend of Noctis, Ignis Sciencia is a loyal and devoted companion who accompanies the prince on his travels. Ignis is characterized by an extreme seriousness and sometimes coldness of character, but despite these qualities, he is very devoted to the prince.

As a child, Ignis received a good education, which helped him easily enter the civil service and become an adviser to the heir to the king. Preference for the iaido style of fighting allows the youth to easily deal with enemies in close combat. In combat, he throws knives and, if necessary, can take the place of Noctis at the wheel of a car. His name means "fire" and "knowledge".

Family protector

Another loyal friend of Noctis, Gladiolus Amicitia, he noticeably surpasses all his associates in strength. Unshakable and cold-blooded in battle, in relations with friends he is very cheerful and sociable. His name comes from the name of the Roman sword - gladius, and the surname is translated as "friendship, friendly."

speed fighter

Prompto Argentum had been friends with the prince since school, having nothing to do with royal family. He has a very carefree and cheerful, and sometimes too frivolous character, which does not prevent him from showing a willingness to help others.

Its feature is the struggle with the help of various firearms, as well as considerable speed, which became the reason for such a name. Prompto means "sharp" or "quick".

Lion's Heart

One of the strongest fighters in the entire kingdom, Cor Leonis, treats his friends rather neutrally, perhaps even rudely, but his patriotism and love for his homeland makes him defend the whole company. Cor does just that, though not fully supporting their goals.

Cora's age is 42, and in Japan this number is considered unlucky, because, according to the inhabitants of the country, it is at this age that various accidents often occur. His name translates as "the heart of a lion" - this characterizes Cor Leonis as a brave and strong character.

The Prince's Bride

Noctis' childhood friend and fiancee-to-be is Lunafreya Nox Fleuret. Stella Nox Fleuret, Noctis's enemy, was originally supposed to be in her place. But later the developers changed the decision and changed it to the princess, who now plays a more global and decisive role. The name of the princess is translated as a sword, because in the game she uses a rapier.

Supporting characters

There are other characters in Final Fantasy XV as well, and although we have referred to them as supporting characters, many of them play a very important role in the storyline. The developers promise that during the game you will meet each of them, or they will somehow affect the storyline.

For example, Regis Lucis Caelum CXIII is the 113th ruler of the kingdom of Lucis and the father of Prince Noctis. His fate is not entirely clear, because during the attack of the troops of the hostile Niflheim, the king was considered dead, and his real fate is still unknown. It is possible that in the process of searching for the crystal, Noctis will find his missing father.

Antipode Regis - the main anti-hero of the game and the emperor of Niflheim named Idola Eldercapt. He made a pact with the kingdom of Lucis, the purpose of which is to steal magic crystal. An important role in his retinue is played by Ardyn Izuniya, the chancellor of the empire, who, despite his detachment from politics, expanded the production of Magitek troops. Ardyn plans that developing these troops will help strengthen the empire.

Less global, but important characters that you will definitely meet are Gentian and Aranea Highwind. Gentiana is a special creature that serves the princess and heals other characters.

Her name comes from the name of the gentian flower, which is known to have medicinal properties. Aranea Highwind is a captain in one of the empire's air force corps. She skillfully owns her business, which is why she received such a high rank. Her opposition to Noctis was shown in the first trailers of the game, however, the name became known not so long ago.

In search of adventure, Cindy Aurum, the granddaughter of the famous Sid, present in almost all previous parts of Final Fantasy, will periodically help you. She helps Noctis and his friends by working as a mechanic, such as fixing a car or a broken sword.

And the last Hero worth mentioning is Etro, the goddess of death. She was mentioned by Stella shortly before the signing of the "peace" treaty with the Niflheim Empire in one of the trailers.

According to the heroine, there is a legend that tells about the special ability of the goddess - to open the Invisible Gates. During this, the souls of the dead rise into the sky, outwardly looking like a beam of light. In addition, it is said that those who are dying at this moment acquire the powers of the Dead Kingdom. A little later it will become known that Stella herself, as well as Prince Noctis, see this light. So, there was already a moment at which they could die.

In the process of wandering, adventures and battles with monsters, you will meet other heroes that have not yet been announced by the developers. But it is already clear how diverse the characters and behavior of the characters are, how they will interact and influence the gameplay.

Let's hope that the developers will present a successful project in RPG genre. We remind you that the release date of Final Fantasy 15 is scheduled for the end of September. The game is expected to be released simultaneously for consoles (PS4, Xbox One) and PC.

In the next article, we will talk about combat system Final Fantasy - from it you will learn how to fight monsters, what Noctis can do and much more. Subscribe to our blog updates and follow the news. With this, we say goodbye to you and wish you success. All for now.

Being an 8-year-old, you go to the market to buy anthologies of cartoons and choose, as you should at this age, by familiar names and the most colorful pictures. And you take the package with the secret inside, in the picture there are many familiar names, with the exception of a couple with incomprehensible pictures. You give your grandmother's hard-earned 100 rubles and start watching at home. I did not have the Internet for a long time, and there were not very many disks, but even then I could designate my favorite cartoons. And I often watched them day after day. I looked at this title last fantasy 7: Children of the Advent", and something didn’t encourage me to turn on this particular cartoon at all. As a result, I got my hands on it only in the 9th year. living people look alike, maybe it's a movie? ". This year I watched it and forgot it. But later, at the age of 12-13, I decided to watch it again. And how damn cool it was, without a doubt - this is my first anime, and I I love it with all my heart. Periodically I review it, and such warmth and a feeling of nostalgia excites my neurons that it is impossible to describe, everyone has something similar in relation to other creations. How much nothing was clear in those distant years, how much I already at 13 it was already eerily interesting what kind of characters these are, and where can I find the 6 previous parts, along the way sitting in a frenzy with the coolness of gg and his super-sword) A month later I bought FF7: Dirge of the Cerberus, about one of minor characters, Vincent Valentine, I could not pass it then, because the games on PS2 for the most part do not know the level of difficulty for casual games. It was abandoned until this year, I still went through it recently. Shortly after the 2nd viewing, the internet was already down, and I passionately began to search for the previous 6 parts. I found out that each previous part, these were not cartoons at all, but game universes, and each may or may not correspond to an anime with an identical serial number. I was upset, but still the passage of FF7: crisis core, which revealed to me some points from the Advent Children. I studied the wiki and started to go through the original seventh part on the phone) But I couldn’t endure this torment to the end, but some background was built in my head. And with the knowledge gained, I watched it again, and it was unforgettable, for the first time in so many views everything was clear to me, I just enjoyed watching it. I really like it, my favorite anime is full-length and with 3D graphics.
Now it’s more categorical: in the anime for the 5th year, it’s just great graphics, no jokes and no bias, many newer pictures have worse graphics, for example, Tekken or some of the Resident Evil (I’m talking about anime, who doesn’t know, look, it’s also watchable) . The staging of the battles is chic, the effects, the colors, the amazing atmosphere. And the music, it deserves special praise, as in the seventh part of the series of games, the music here is simply amazing, at one time the soundtracks from the game were called the soundtracks of the year (specifically like One Winged Angel), the music is well matched to the atmosphere of the stage, and very dynamic with its beauty .
The plot here is simple, without any tricks, it is clear that it will be already in the middle of the anime and the final scene has already been determined. Again, they touch on the philosophy of the lifestream from the game, but appropriately. The fights are very well done (but they are really good, it could have been written a second time). There is also some kind of personal drama here, he is trying to prove something to himself there, he blames for something (in fact, it is clear from the game for what), and all this is well presented, with good graphics and music. All in all Square Enix tried, it turned out much better than their last Kingsave, as for me. I advise you to watch it, but it's better to get acquainted with the universe of the 7th part before.
I hope at least someone read to the end)

Yuna is the main character of Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2, daughter of High Summoner Braska and the remaining unnamed female Al Bhed. Yuna's mother was the sister of the mechanic Sid, Rikku and Brother are Yuna's cousins. It is because of the mixing of the blood of "ordinary" people and Al Bhed that Yuna has a blue left eye and a green right eye.

In Final Fantasy X-2, with Sin no longer a threat to Spira, Yuna, who has lost her former purpose in life, changes quite a bit, becoming a carefree orb hunter and leading a group of "Gullwings". Her new goal is to find Tidus, who disappeared along with all Fayth, whose image she saw in one of the ancient spheres; but, facing a new threat to Spira - Vegnagan, Yuna leaves the hunt for the spheres and returns to the super-task of saving humanity again.

The name Yuna (ユウナ) is taken from the Okinawan dialect of Japanese and means "night" in translation - as opposed to the word Chida (Tidus), borrowed from there, meaning "sun".

Rikku Al Bhed is a cheerful girl who is a playable character in Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2. Rikku's father is Sid, the leader of Al Bhed. She also has a brother, whose name is Brother. Also, Rikku and Yuna are cousins.

2 years after the destruction of Sin, Rikku and Brother founded a group of sphere hunters - "Gullwings", with the help of Brother's friends - Buddy and Shinra. Soon, the mysterious Payne joins their team. When Kimari finds an orb in the mountains of Gagazet that features a young man who looks a lot like Tidus, Rikku travels to Besaid to show it to Yuna, after which she joins Gullwings as well.

During Operation Mi "ihen, her team included three more young people - Nooj, Baralai and Gippal. Although most of the members of the Crimson Squad died inside Den of Woe, their team manages to survive, but soon something terrible begins to haunt them. After 2 years after this incident, Payne joins the Gullwings in hopes of finding out what really happened that day.
