Who invented the world of tank. The history of the creation of the game World Of Tanks. Why do people love World Of Tanks so much?

To what only epithets does not reward the people World Of Tanks game: she is both an “enemy of families”, and a “Belarusian miracle”, and a “breakthrough of the decade”. Its creators managed to do what dozens of companies tried so vainly to do before them, namely, to massively involve men aged 30 to 45 who have already taken place in the life of the game. People are not poor and quite conservative.

And it is largely thanks to the support of this age group that the game's revenues in 2013 amounted to no less than half a billion euros. An amount that a few years ago seemed to the creators of a dream, completely divorced from reality. And yet the success took place: today we can already talk about more than 60 million players and up to a million playing at the same time. The only fact that somewhat blurs the rosy picture is that the path to triumph took a long 12 years. But who said that everything comes at once?!

background

Once upon a time, in the vastness of Belarus, there was a not-so-famous, but quite skillful studio Wargaming.net. Founded back in 1998, for the time being it was known only for the fact that the guys who work there are able to fulfill their obligations for acceptable money. There were releases of several games, improvements for third-party clients and other similar orders on the studio's account.

As it happens, the joker came almost by accident: studio development - engine AdRevolver, responsible for displaying a banner ad, was interested in a large Internet advertising company Bluelithium. In exchange for a share of the profits at BlueLithium, the Belarusians provided support staff and a technology platform.

And again, luck: after a while, the notorious buys BlueLithium for $ 300 million. Wargaming.net comes to them, albeit a small but quite sufficient part of the profits, amounting to several million dollars. It happens that having received a lot of money, people are not ready for them. Fortunately, with Wargaming.net, everything was exactly the opposite. They have been waiting for this chance for a long time and took full advantage of it.

Creation of World Of Tanks

The fateful conversation about the fate of World Of Tanks (WoT) took place on December 12, 2008 and lasted several hours. The developers faced a dilemma that was quite difficult to resolve. So, there is some serious money paid by Yahoo. There is a desire to do something epoch-making and. And, most importantly, a multiplayer is already in development.

As you already understood, in the end a phrase was uttered that dotted all the "i". I can’t vouch for the literalness of what was said, but the main message was as follows: to hell with elves and orcs, let’s make tanks! From that moment on, work began on Tankdrome". Yes, that was the working title of the game.

Oh, how many refusals the studio had to hear when it tried to take a share of serious investors with whom it could share the financial burden of working on World Of Tanks. Orcs and elves were understood and approved by many, but no one wanted to invest in the tanks they needed. Today, these people probably bite their elbows, but at that time they laughed at the Wargaming.net studio, considering them dreamers, preoccupied with a failed and unpromising "project".

And yet, despite the stupid hooting, Wargaming.net continued to work on World Of Tanks. In April 2009, the official announcement of the game was released, and in September of the same year, alpha testing began, for which there were only five tank models and one incomplete map. Yes, not a lot, but the dashing trouble began!

  • ~ winter 2010- first closed beta testing;

  • ~ spring 2010- Introduced pumping equipment for experience;

  • ~ summer 2010 - open beta testing;

  • ~ August 13, 2010- the official release of the game.

And so, the start was given. With a buildup, sometimes even overloading, the game went on, gaining loyal followers, who are not indifferent to the roar of engines and desperate tank battles.

Further development

With rumors about new game, which is a fusion of realistic shooter, RPG and real-time strategy, scattered around with space speed. In January 2011, the bar was taken to a million users and 75,000 players online. Then it was considered something incredible, but it turned out that this is just a glimpse of future success.

The whole year 2011 was the time of expansion of the game to the West and East. World Of Tanks was launched in China, America and Great Britain within a short time. In the same year, the game collected a whole bunch of prizes and awards. So, an unthinkable thing, the project, which was only a year old, received the prestigious Runet Prize. An unprecedented event for our latitudes.

In parallel with marketing shifts, game mechanisms were also rapidly developed: new equipment, powers, and cards appeared. Thanks to the support of dedicated fans, World Of Tanks is constantly improving. We must pay tribute to the developers: they do not rest on their laurels and do not cut big coupons. More than a decent part of the profits (and in 2013, the profit, by the way, amounted to more than 200 million euros), the owners again invest in the game.

And this brings results: to date, about 80 million people have registered in the World Of Tanks game, and on December 19, 2014, another record was set - 1,114,000 players online. Serious numbers.

Why do people love World Of Tanks so much?

Today, many analysts are trying to explain the success of World Of Tanks with a variety of reasons. I even met absolutely incredible ones, something like “These are Slavs - they need to constantly fight with someone” or “All because of high-profile advertising campaigns, over time, popularity will decline.” No, it doesn't. Grows. And growing, by the way, for a long time and steadily.

It seems to me that there are three main “pillars” on which success is “worth” World games Of Tanks:

  • ~ whale first - short play time. In most multiplayer games, you need to "kill" a lot of time for the gameplay. In World Of Tanks, the battles are fleeting. Just an ideal option for serious men, weighed down by work and family responsibilities;

  • ~ whale second - realism. The game is great. The rumble of engines, shooting, well-drawn landscapes - all this is mesmerizing. If in fantasy worlds about 90% game actions completely invented, then in World Of Tanks everything is real;

  • ~ whale third - business model. In WoT, it is not necessary to constantly “tumble in money” in order to be on horseback. Yes, there are some benefits of premium accounts, but they are not as striking as in most other multiplayer games. In 2013, Wargaming.net introduced the “free to win” principle, meaning that paying players cannot feel like “titans” when playing with ordinary users. Skill and military cunning come first. Yes, and playing without a subscription is also a rather serious trump card, thanks to which World Of Tanks is constantly replenished with new adherents.

I am sure that if the creators of this approach to the convenience and quality of the World Of Tanks game continue in the future, then we will have a lot of high-profile news about the next broken popularity records.

The word "slot" in World of Tanks means free space in the hangar to accommodate a new tank. If you buy a premium tank, a free "slot" is already included with the tank.

Uploaded light tanks of level 10. 5 Lt 10 units in World of Tanks have undergone changes at once.

The minimum level for premium class tanks is level 2. We will talk about this technique below. In total, World of Tanks features 9 tanks of this category. In the context of nations, premium tanks of the second level are represented by five states, among them the USSR, Germany, the USA, Great Britain and Japan. The remaining four nations do not yet have level 2 premiums in WOT. The main characteristics are presented in the table (below).

World of Tanks is a multiplayer computer online game. From the very name of the game, we can make the correct conclusion that this project is dedicated to tanks.

The point is that when playing on art in World of Tanks and being already destroyed in battle, the damage inflicted on allies is incorrectly taken into account.

AT WoT update On 9.20, the Grand Battle mode will become available, which will complement the variety of battle types in the Random Battle mode.

As you know, tier 10 light tanks appeared in the world of tanks. And what exactly will the new "fireflies" be? What characteristics will lt 10 have? Which tank will be the most powerful and which will be the fastest? Which combat vehicle is the most armored, and which is the strongest? We will try to answer all these questions right now. We present to you the final performance characteristics all Tier 10 tanks featured in World of Tanks.

We have collected statistics from World of Tanks for all combat vehicles presented in the game.

Dear site readers!

Implementation of two branches Swedish tanks in WOT 9.18 is given to developers with great difficulty. It's all to blame for the division of control into high-level tank destroyers. When using the shooting mode on the tier 9 Strv 103-0 vehicle, the Swedes repeatedly (!) noticed the model of the combat vehicle slipping through the textures. Perhaps this is due to this combat unit. Already now the "texturists" are rejoicing. As you know, the problem with tanks getting into textures in World of Tanks is not an isolated one. There were even cases of the tank sinking and getting stuck in the terrain, in stones, buildings, and even just in the ground. When the tank is in textures, any hits on it do no damage.

Modern game industry most often replenished with products created by developers from the United States of America, major countries Europe or Japan. But it is worth noting that even not too large states are able to create games that "shoot out" to the whole world. In our article, we will answer the question in which country the World of Tanks game was created. This question is asked by many people, so today this game is known and popular. And also the article will provide information about the interesting features of this online game.

A few words about the game

World of Tanks is an online game. Its genre is defined as tank simulator in a historical setting. It was announced on August 12, 2010. The entire gameplay takes place in an imitation of the time period of 1941-1945.

The business model of this product is presented in the form of free-to-play. This means that anyone can register, download the client and play the game itself without any mandatory costs. This provoked some unfair situations between those who buy additional weapons or equipment and those who play without donation.

However, in 2013, those who created the World of Tanks game announced a change in the system. From now on, the model will adhere to the free-to-win type. This means there is no difference in benefits between those who buy something and those who play without spending real currency. This change has led to the fact that the number of wins and losses depends only on the skill level of the player.

Gameplay

  • immediately after launch, the player is "thrown" into the general battle, without training in single player mode;
  • at the disposal of the beginner is one copy of the tank from each game nation (USA, USSR, Sweden, Czechoslovakia and some other countries);
  • taking part in the battle, the player earns inside game currency, crews are trained, experience points are accumulated, allowing access to new equipment.

Creators

So who came up with the game World of Tanks? This product is copyrighted by a private company called Wargaming.net. It is listed as a publisher and developer of games, developing near-game services on various platforms. Where was World of Tanks created?

This development company was organized in Belarus (Minsk). The headquarters is located in the Republic of Cyprus.

The history of the creation of World of Tanks

Wargaming.net studio was founded back in 1998. At that time, she was not well known, but very promising. Then she was engaged in the completion of third-party clients, game releases and other similar work.

However, luck came from where they did not expect. The engine behind the creators of World of Tanks called AdRevolver, designed to display banner ads, turned out to be of interest to BlueLithium. She was in internet advertising.

It started on December 12, 2008. The developers faced a serious question: they had a large amount of money, a desire to create a worthwhile gaming product, and most importantly, the developments of an online fantasy game. As a result, after several hours of discussion, the developers decided to leave the fantasy idea and move on to work on the product, the working title of which was Tankodrome.

It is worth noting that those who created the World of Tanks game have been fiddling for a long time in order to attract any of the serious investors to work on the game. Interestingly, if the company had worked on the original "fiction", the search would have been easier. This is because many knew and trusted games about orcs and elves.

And yet Wargaming.net continued to work on their idea. The results became noticeable within a few months. In April 2009, the official announcement of the product took place. September was the launch month for alpha testing. At that time, players were offered to try 5 different tank models on the unfinished map.

A further update followed in 2010. In winter, the first closed test of the game was released. In the spring of the same year, the game introduced the ability to upgrade vehicles for experience points. And in the summer of the same year, open beta testing was announced.

And finally, on August 12, 2010, there was a release. It is worth noting that if at the very beginning of development those who created the World of Tanks game were ridiculed not only by players, but also by investors, now it is one of the most famous companies in the gaming world. It is worth noting that the launch of the project was not as easy as it could be. The unusual setting each time attracted more and more interested players. This, in turn, led to the fact that the servers with the game fell quite often, unable to withstand the influx of players.

Game updates

In the first month of 2011, it "overcame" the bar of 1 million players in total, as well as the mark of 75,000 online users, which at that time was a huge number. The game began to gain popularity in China, the US and the UK, winning a sufficient number of awards in the same year, including the prestigious Runet Prize.

This dedication has paid off. In December 2014, the bar of 1 million concurrent online users was surpassed. And on this moment The game has over 80 million registered users.

global update

On March 20, 2018, the developers introduced the first major update, number 1.0. Generally speaking, it brought a new sound system and graphics to the game. In more detail, it is worth noting the following elements: graphics engine, performance, music, system requirements.

Changing the graphics engine

In this update, the creators have moved from the old BigWorld engine, which limits the introduction of new technologies into the code, to an improved Core. Its development was sharpened specifically for World of Tanks. The engine has the ability to make new technological settings.

It also allows you to use modern effects and technologies that improve the graphics of the game, making it more realistic. Many different environmental details have been added to the maps to improve the level of immersion in the game.

Changes have been made to elements such as changing weather conditions depending on the time of year when the player moves from a summer or autumn map to a winter map. Improved quality and saturation of sunlight. The visualization of destruction has also undergone changes.

Changing performance settings

There are the following improvements:

  • the interface has been optimized;
  • change in caterpillar calculations;
  • improvement of the system of vegetation models;
  • increased level of detail;
  • particle system optimization.

Music

The compositions have been completely reworked. Composers were among those who came up with the game World of Tanks. They wrote and added more than 60 new tracks. Each map is assigned its own unique soundtrack. Updated loading screen melodies to match the region of the map. Each action also had its own sounds and tracks.

Minimum system requirements

History

The idea of the game, according to the developers, came up on or December 30, 2008, although the decision to make a game about tanks came after a conversation in Moscow on December 12, 2008, where they thought about what to make the game about. Prior to this, the developers were working on a fantasy-style game. In the spring of 2009, game designer Sergei Burkatovsky, also known as SerB, joined the company. Soon the project was given the code name Tankodrome. Work on the first version went on until the summer of the year. Then the closed alpha test of the game began.

The game was officially announced by Wargaming.net on April 24, 2009. According to the developers, to create a game World of Tanks the largest budget in history was planned gaming industry CIS countries, however, there is no exact data on the budget of the game. Alpha testing of the game began in September of that year; at that time, only five tank models and one unfinished map had been created. By the time the closed beta testing began on January 30, 2010, several dozen models of armored vehicles and three fully completed maps were ready. In five months, about 40,000 applications were submitted for participation in the beta test, more than 400,000 battles were fought during testing. In March 2010, the developers announced that they intended to develop the project for at least another 5-7 years.

On June 24, 2010, open beta testing of the game began; in the first version of the open beta test, the tank building schools of the USSR and Germany and seven different maps were available to players. On July 8, the closed beta test of the English version started World of Tanks. On August 12, the online release took place World of Tanks, however, due to technical reasons, the game's servers started working only on August 13, 2010.

On January 27, 2011, the English version of the game went into open beta mode, and was released on April 12, 2011.

In 2012, the game was included in the disciplines of the final games of the world's largest eSports event World Cyber Games.

Since March 21, 2018 (patch 1.0), all game cards in HD format with zooming in and refining the landscape, which gave the game new colors and changed the tactics of combat, as the familiar landscape has also undergone changes. The graphics engine of the client has also been replaced - instead of BigWorld, the game now runs on its own Core engine (the server part continues to work on the old engine). The client netcode is also left over from BigWorld.

Game process

AT World of Tanks players jump into battles immediately, with no pre-games in single player mode, allowing the game to be compared to Battlefield Heroes. Initially, the player gets at his disposal one tank of the first level of 11 countries: USSR (MS-1), Germany (Leichttraktor), USA (T1 Cunningham), France (Renault FT), China (NC-31), Japan (Renault Otsu) , Czechoslovakia (KH.50), Sweden (Strv fm / 21), Italy (Fiat 3000), Poland (4TP) - light tanks, Great Britain - medium tank(Vickers Medium Mark I), with a fully trained crew. By participating in battles, the player earns silver (game currency), trains the crew and accumulates experience points to gain access to new units and combat vehicles. Each model of armored vehicles has a number of components - a gun, a turret, a chassis, an engine and a radio station - which can be replaced with more advanced models. Equipment upgrades are made in the "hangar" in between battles. "Silver" is spent on the repair of a damaged tank, the purchase of ammunition, consumables and additional equipment; they also purchase improved components and new combat vehicles. Unused equipment, ammunition and tanks can be disposed of for half their original cost. In the future, it is planned to introduce the possibility of in-game trading between players.

Game process in World of Tanks is based on the battle of two randomly selected teams of 15 players - while one team can combine tanks from different countries and years of production, real tanks and experimental models. The condition for victory in the battle is the complete destruction of the enemy team or the capture of its base, for which one or more tanks must be in the marked zone for some time without receiving damage. With update 0.7.4, the "Assault" modes were introduced (one of the teams must, after repelling the attack of the enemy team, hold the base) and "Encounter Battle" (teams try to capture the only control point on the map). With update 8.9, the mode " Team fight» (the team consists of seven players using vehicles up to the eighth level inclusive, which is not selected randomly, but based on personal rating players).

Communication between players during battles and coordination of actions are carried out through text chat or voice communication (between players in a platoon, company, or in training rooms). The player whose tank is destroyed is eliminated from the battle, but can either watch the battle in the free-switching camera mode, or leave the battlefield and return to the hangar, from where they will immediately go to another battle on another tank, or wait for the damaged tank to return from the battle. There is a rating system that displays the statistics of wins and losses and records the achievements of an individual player.

There are several main camera modes: a third-person view, when the player watches the tank from the side, and a view through the sight, which zooms in on objects for more accurate shots. There is also a third camera mode - howitzer (when using self-propelled guns with mounted fire). When this mode is enabled, you can observe part of the map from above, zooming in or out of the camera for aiming.

Great importance in World of Tanks is given to the historical authenticity of combat vehicles. It concerns them appearance, close to the realism of the reservation, the location of internal and external units and the crew. When creating models of tanks, the developers consult with military historians and experts in the field of tank building.

The game has a complex damage model that takes into account the type and thickness of the armor, the speed of the projectile and the angle of its impact with the armor, the type of ammunition, and a number of other factors. The state of the tank is also not limited to the only “health” parameter: the design of each vehicle includes objects corresponding to the engine, running gear, gun, ammo rack, gas tanks and other functionally most important components, as well as crew members; at the same time, each such object can be damaged individually, which will accordingly affect the behavior of the tank: engine damage can immobilize the tank, a pierced tank can cause a fire, and a shell-shocked commander will not be able to effectively detect camouflaged enemy tanks.

Update 0.8.0 added realistic motion physics to the game: now players' vehicles can climb slopes of hills, descend or even fall from them, receiving damage in some cases, sinking in water bodies on the map. In addition, when cornering in motion on high speed drifts appear.

Update 0.9.14 added new tank movement physics: movement, interaction with other tanks and objects on the maps, and the ability to flip tanks.

In update 1.0, the game engine was completely changed, textures were reworked in HD quality, soundtracks were updated.

However, despite the detailed study of the appearance of tanks, the damage model close to reality, the calculations of ballistics and armor damage, the reliability of the behavior of armored vehicles in battle was sacrificed by the developers for “playability”: controls are simplified, tank movement and gun reloading are accelerated, the review is adapted to the player. The developers themselves also do not deny the arcade elements of the game:

Wargaming.net: We prefer to call our game MMO action. Although the features of both the simulator and the arcade are present in the game. 100% tank simulator World of Tanks cannot be named, because the emphasis is not on absolute reliability in tank control, but on the dynamics of battles. We did not set ourselves the goal of creating complex simulator, as it could hurt the intense and addictive gameplay. So World of Tanks- it's more of a network action with elements of a simulator, arcade and even strategic game. Gameplanet.by website, January 12, 2010

The developers do not rule out the possibility of tank support means appearing in the game, such as aviation, artillery, and even infantry.

Team game

At the time of the online release, the game only allowed platoons of up to three tanks to enter battle or training battles. In version 0.6.2, company battles of 15 against 15 people were introduced; patch 0.6.2.8 introduced clans and inter-clan battles for territories on the global map, which are called in the game " World War". Also, since version 9.4 there is a team battle mode 7 for 7 players.

Clans and World War

A player who is a member of a clan receives a clan tag at the end of the nickname and access to a separate in-game text communication channel between clan members. Created for World War mode global map, including Europe, parts of Asia, North Africa, North America and the entire territory of Russia, divided into small zones of influence, for control over which there are battles between clans. The more territories a clan controls, the more game advantages it gets. For possession of the territory, a more valuable in-game currency - "gold", usually bought for real money, enters the clan's treasury. The amount of "gold" received from the territory grows with its distance from the landing zone and reaches 4560 units per day, while clans in the landing zone receive only 240 units per day. "Gold" is managed by the commander, deputy commander and treasurer of the clan. New clan, wishing to enter the battles for the territory, must apply for landing in one of the many zones available for this, after which he will have a knockout tournament from 1/32 to the final, in which the attacking clan will have to fight with the owners of this territory.

The presence of many enemies and the danger of attacks from all sides encourages the clans to create coalitions with the obligation of mutual non-aggression on each other's provinces. This allows the clans to withdraw troops from the provinces that are on the border with the allies and concentrate them to fight for the rest of the provinces. Some coalitions end in treacherous backstabs, while others are sustainable and enduring.

With patch 0.6.4, the global map has been expanded to about 800 provinces by adding North Africa, the Middle East, and the entire territory of the USSR. In the future, the map will continue to expand at the expense of the rest of the world all the way to Antarctica.

Premium game elements

Game currency in World of Tanks divided into "silver" and "gold". "Silver" is awarded for the battles conducted by the player, and both the victory of the team as a whole and the individual achievements of the players are rewarded; "gold" can be purchased for real money, as well as received during various promotions. Some features of the game are available only when paying with "gold":

  • purchase of a premium account with a one and a half times increase in receipt play money and experience
  • purchase of premium armored vehicles;
  • purchase of additional space for equipment in the hangar;
  • purchase of additional space for the crew in the barracks;
  • instant training of a crew member to the maximum level of the main skill, as well as resetting additional skills without loss of experience;
  • conversion of experience points of a specific tank into “free” experience points that can be used to develop any tank;
  • the possibility of applying camouflage, paints, primers and decorative elements to the tank for an unlimited period;
  • the possibility of dismantling complex equipment;
  • username change;
  • buying game credits.

Purchasing a premium account provides a 50% increase in game money (credits), combat experience and crew experience in each battle, which allows you to save time and achieve faster high levels in any branch of development;

For "gold" you can buy "premium armored vehicles", which bring more "credits" per battle and, as a rule, are cheaper to repair than similar free armored vehicles. The game developers say that premium armored vehicles are not all-conquering "ubercars" on the battlefield, "you can't get any super-important bonuses for real money" and " paid services do not give serious advantages in battles; the most important thing is "direct hands" and tactical thinking.

Economy

Game gold is an internal currency that allows you to speed up the development in the game. With the help of gold, you can purchase premium equipment and a premium account. In addition, in-game gold allows you to convert the accumulated experience into free experience and use it to research any other combat vehicle.

Premium vehicles are combat vehicles that do not need to be researched and nothing needs to be researched on them. When fighting on premium vehicles, the player receives an increased portion of experience and credits, a bonus to crew upgrades, and Elite status, which allows accelerating accumulation free experience.

Silver is the main in-game currency earned in battles. With its help, you can develop in the game, buy new vehicles, gear and equipment, replenish ammunition and send tank crews for training.

Experience is a game resource earned in battles. For experience, you can research modules and new equipment. In addition, experience is necessary for the training of combat vehicle crews. Experience is divided into combat, free and crew experience.

Premium account - this status allows you to advance in the development branch much faster. With a premium account, you earn much more experience and credits for each battle. A nice addition to the benefits of a premium account is a clean and spacious hangar (before update 1.0) and the ability to add one additional card to exceptions (when using tank premium account). And also in recent times the possibility of pre-purchasing new premium equipment for Users with a premium account is practiced.

In update 9.19, "bonds" were introduced - a unique game currency that can be obtained by participating in Ranked battles, as well as completing tasks in special fan modes. Some battle achievements also grant bonds. And their number depends on the level of technology. Bonds can be purchased unique items, which are not available for purchase with other currencies: advanced equipment and pre-battle instructions.

Cards

The cards in the game are square, size standard map- kilometer per kilometer. Some cards, such as Ensk, are smaller. In the "General Battle" battle mode, the map is 2 km by 2 km. There are destructible objects on the maps. In April 2018, the game update 1.0 was released. In this update, the same maps were introduced, but with new graphics on the new Core game engine.

Armored vehicles in the game

In the game, after update 1.01, 588 types of tanks and self-propelled guns are presented, operated or developed in the USSR, Czechoslovakia, Nazi Germany, Germany, East Germany, USA, France, Great Britain, China, Republic of China, Sweden, Japan, Italy, Poland. In the future, it is also planned to present equipment from other countries. May 29, 2012 the developers officially presented British tanks. In update 0.8.10 (December 20, 2013), the developers introduced Japanese tanks. In general, the game covers the history of tank building from the 30s to the 60s of the XX century.

It should be noted that the game contains both tanks that actually participated in hostilities, as well as experimental models that existed only on drawings or in prototypes (one of the examples is the super-heavy tank Maus, which was produced in only two copies); in addition, non-authentic modifications of military equipment are allowed - guns, towers, engines, etc., in reality, never on this tank not installed (for example, the Pz I Breda turret was never installed on the Pz I C tank).

The armored vehicles presented in the game are conditionally divided into five classes (light (including wheeled tanks that appeared in update 1.4), medium and heavy tanks, as well as anti-tank and howitzer self-propelled guns) and 10 levels.

Based on the collected game statistics, the developers from time to time change the tactical and technical characteristics of individual combat vehicles to maintain the game balance.
